Just a simple print that carries over from the torso to the skirt piece should be enough. I think my issue with the skirt piece is that their outfits don’t drag on the ground at all. Maybe they could do printed bricks for legs like they did for dresses in that one Harry Potter advent calendar, but that just seems like it’d be weird to me. Plus their dark red arms are hidden for the most part, and a poncho would do well to hide them a bit more and complete the look. Quote

I'm hoping the diorama has this, plus the LOTR sitting robe build for Palpatine. Quote

Graupensuppe Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 For some characters, a mech suit would actually make sense. Especially Wat Tambor, foreman of the Mechno Union Techno Union. Quote

They aren't any more egregious than spring or stud shooters to me, and the projectiles at least look like missiles. (sure, they make 0 sense for lasers, but by that logic stud shooters only work when representing stun blasts or geonosian weapons.) I think the answer for me is that they don't work nearly as well as other projectiles. Also, there is a huge difference in suspension of disbelief when one is a transparent little blur when fired off that is the same colour as the intended blast, while the other is a giant grey thing that works very inconsistently at best compared to stud shooter, and usually takes part of the guns they are meant to be firing from with them. I just think that they are usually used in situations that don't really make sense for them, like sure, sometimes there used for proper missiles, but those examples are few and far between. I do think they work better for Medieval themes and Minecraft though. Edited February 13, 2023 by CodFather1 Missed words Quote

This isn't looking great. 1 minute ago, CodFather1 said: I think the answer for me is that they don't work nearly as well as other projectiles. (They’re also ridiculously niche and Lego would never make them) But in all honesty, if these do exist I’m sure they’ll be bad sets with common minifigs. But hey, at least they likely wouldn’t have exclusive/desirable figs, so most people won’t have to or want to buy them. Edited February 13, 2023 by QuiggoldsPegLeg Quote

Kaijumeister Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 (edited) Yeah…I can totally see something like: Darth Vader Mech Armour Luke Skywalker Mech Armour Stormtrooper Mech Armour The Mandalorian Mech Armour Nice and cheap way for younger fans to get popular characters. As long as we get at least some decent System-scaled sets this summer, I won’t worry much. Edited February 13, 2023 by Kaijumeister Quote
Agent Kallus Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Eh, I wouldn't mind the idea too much, if they have boring figs they're skippable and if they have interesting figs I can break the builds don't for parts. Though I do think they fill too a similar a niche to the mircofighters. Quote
BacktoBricks Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 To be fair, some kids might love cheap Star Wars character mechs. It's just us AFOLs who will cry out like Luke on Bespin at the thought of that concept taking up set slots. But for a kid, a cheap(er) way to get a minifigure of Darth Vader etc would probably be great for them. For the theme, if you want to pair a minifigure with a cheap build then microfighters make more sense to me, but I'm sure the battle aspect of mechs would appeal to many children. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Exactly. Why would anyone need mechs when we already have microfighters, which are cheaper to boot? Also, while they fit for Marvel, SW mechs make little sense as there are very few in-universe examples. Granted, there are a lot of nonsensical SW toys out there (Hot Wheels and Transformers come to mind), but TLG don’t have to add to that pile Quote

It doesn’t help that the winter waves are so small now, which inevitably heightens our expectations for what awaits in the summer (Mando S3 sets, helmets, and dioramas notwithstanding). Hoping for a set list in the next 2 weeks. Edited February 13, 2023 by Kaijumeister Quote

Meaf Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Assuming the $15 sets are in fact a new line of gimmick sets (which seems likely), I wonder what will happen with microfighters. Having two similarly priced sub-series at the same time seems like a weird choice, but if any theme is popular enough for it to make sense I guess it would be Star Wars. Quote

They made the move of spreading out 1hy and making it mostly non-system sets (nothing against it, while the helmets aren't for me they seem to do well, and I've been loving the dioramas), which means that august wave is where most of our hopes are for the sets. 12 minutes ago, Meadius said: Assuming the $15 sets are in fact a new line of gimmick sets (which seems likely), I wonder what will happen with microfighters. If these are mechs, only one line is going to survive. Both lines are primarily impulse purchases/gifts (can you even call $15 an impulse purchase? It's the smallest set, but its not like the $5 sets they used to have) that have a major draw of getting whatever figure it is in a cheap set. They overlap eachother's territory. 1 hour ago, jdubbs said: What did I do to deserve such scorn? Sorry, good point. You sometimes have info you hint at here. You don't run obnoxious social media accounts constantly claiming you know what the next 8 marvel movies are about and backtracking when your info is inevitably wrong. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 I liked everything they’ve released so far this year (what little there is), but this marks the first time I might consider the entire year as underwhelming, depending on what the bigger 2HY sets are going to be and what the minifig selection of the two Mando sets is like. 2021 and 2022 were “saved” by the 2HY sets, and I’m not sure how likely that is this time The smell of remakes is in the air Not a hint or anything, just a hunch Quote

Yeah, except microfighters make about a bajillion times more sense in context. 2 hours ago, Meadius said: I wonder what will happen with microfighters. Lets be honest, they've been dying out for a while. We used to get 6 per year, then 4, then 2 singles and 2 in a dual pack, then 1 single and 2 in a dual pack, then just one measly set for 2022 and 2023. Not much of a "Collect them all!" thing anymore. This new change has been coming for a while. Quote

Not much of a "Collect them all!" thing anymore. This new change has been coming for a while. That's a pretty good point. Perhaps the logic behind having both exist (for now) is that Lego wants to make sure the new sets sell well enough to replace microfighters before they ditch them completely. Personally I don't care about microfighters in the slightest so I'm cautiously optimistic about whatever is coming up. I think the problem is that for $15 (these days), you can't do too much that I would find overly compelling. Of course I may simply be lacking in imagination, but I guess if they have decent minifigs then we're not really losing much. Quote
