Finally we can put the prequel UCS experiment behind us. I randomly had a dream about a UCS X-wing last night. I would hope it’s a vastly improved shape given a lot has changed since 2013. Bigger engines and an accurate nose would be the main improvements.

Now I feel stupid for buying the 2013 one for an outrageous price 1.5 years ago. Especially with those &@€€!? stickers you had to put on the windscreen. I had to buy a second copy of the windscreen on Bricklink because of how badly I had screwed it up the first time :laugh_hard:

At least the new one will have printed windscreens I suppose. Still a baffling choice, but it fits right in with the 2HY stuff

I'm actually quite happy with this choice.

Not that I've ever bought a Star Wars UCS, but the last two versions of X-Wing are awfully dated, they both look pretty bad.

Ten years is an understandable gap, and X-Wing is too iconic to not make it again.

Agreed with THELEGOBATMAN, I'm actually happy about this. I usually only buy minifig scale UCS sets, But I do happen to own the UCS TIE Fighter and now I can get this X-wing to display with it. Apart from the falcon, the TIE and the X-wing are probably the most Iconic Star Wars ships ever so I'm not that surprised we're seeing a third rendition. Lets hope they print that windscreen this time around.

I’m not even surprised anymore at this point. 2023 is just a giant L, isn’t it

An L for existing themes perhaps but Rivendell, hopefully Zelda and a DC resurgence might make it one of the best years for Lego yet imo, and I'm still waiting to see how the Sonic sets turn out or if we get minifig system Mario sets.

Let's not forget about the big new era of Ninjago we are yet to see it and whatever Dreamzzz turns out like.

February is far too early to write off a year, and honestly IMO it's a W so far.

Just because they're doing another OT one doesn't mean we'll never see another PT one, I don't think anyone expected the PT ones to replace the OT ones or be more numerous.

Thing is, I kept calling 2023 the best year so far for months, primarily based on the fact Indy and LOTR both return, Gringotts is finally happening, a proper NWH set will get released, how excellent the Disney 100 stuff is, JP getting an entire wave, and DC returning to form. And there’s the survey leak with a potential Zelda set.

All of that put 2023 at the top, no question. But then came the SW and Marvel news, and worst of all, the cancellation of the Indy set(s) yesterday.

Sure, this shouldn’t detract from all the good stuff listed above, but it still does in my eyes. It’s like discovering raisins in the middle of your delicious donut. Still edible, but all you can now think of are those disgusting raisins and their aftertaste

Good analogy, I can get behind your perspective.

The X-Wing makes complete sense as a UCS, it’s been a decade since the previous one and it ticks the usual iconic / desirable / sensible criteria these sets need to adhere to. Not for me, but there’s no doubt it’ll sell well.

I’m hoping the 3 Mando S3 sets we’re getting in May and August at least will exceed expectations.

While I don't think it's entirely out of the question, I seriously doubt Yavin will ever be made as an MBS. It's iconic, but I don't think it's that iconic. It being a larger playset seems perfect for it since they'll be able to recreate the most iconic elements of it without needing to devote a ton of pieces to the outside (which would no doubt drive up the price a ton). I could be totally off base (pun not intended), but Yavin just doesn't strike me as something that would sell really well an as MBS, and I don't think it needs to be that big to be done justice either.

I agree. A Yavin set would work well in a similar style to Vader's Castle eg. open backed with the temple exterior on the front and sides - hangar on the bottom floor, briefing room/control room above that, and medal ceremony on the top floor. The rumoured inclusion of a Y-Wing microfighter also points in that direction, similar to the mini TIE Advanced in the castle set.

I get what you are saying, but cut out the middle of the doughnut and have a ring doughnut.

Though TBH marvel is getting it much worse than we are here in Star wars, we've got the Mando and Ahsoka sets to look forward too. And the January wave brought us a long awaited Tie Bomber, with a new named imperial officer no less ( though TBH 3 figs is a bit low for a set that size and another Vader is another Vader) and a nice ( if £5 overpriced) battlepack, the Cody helmet looks great and might be my first of the helmet sets (though probably not because I will prioritise Minifig scale sets). And we've the return of Bossk Leia and moulded Jabba, and another OT set that isn't a remake coming in the summer wave, maybe high republic Yoda in the 4+ set.

Yeah it could've been better, I'd have like to see a BoBF finale set ( Rancor, Scorponeks, Santo, Cad Bane, Pykes etc) while it's still relevant enough for Lego to consider, more from tBB (clone commandos, season 2 outfits and Crosshairs shuttle with plain regs please) and Andor (Army troopers, prison escape, B2-emo etc) but compared to marvel who only have the CMF and the NWH set to look forward too, star wars is having a relative feast.( I guess they had the Morb set in January too but that's not a big W imo)

I suppose there's also the D2Cs to consider but honestly I don't mind them being crap as there's enough D2Cs from other themes to catch my interest and if everything was perfect I definitely wouldn't be able to afford to get everything I want anyway.

That depends on what the Mando and Ahsoka sets are like. Currently, the NWH set by itself outshines everything SW has to offer this year, at least in my book  Those 4-5 sets better be good, or else SW can dwell at the very bottom of my list.

Even Minecraft and Mario currently rank above SW, as they don‘t do anything to actively draw my ire :laugh_hard:

Thinking on it further, while I definitely understand LEGO wanting to remake a UCS X-Wing, am I the only one who would've preferred if they'd done the black Sequel Trilogy version? It would be an original set, it has a sleeker and arguably cooler design, would have better potential for an exclusive minifigure (Poe with a new head in the warm tan color and the helmet from TSS), and we are REALLY overdue for more sequel sets, it's going on three years now.

I know the reason we don't get sequel sets is because a lot of people have an irrational hatred for those movies (though six years ago I could've said the same about Attack of the Clones), but it's still a shame.

That‘s a really awesome idea! Certainly better than what we‘re actually getting

That‘s another thing that ticks me off, how close to greatness they‘re sometimes getting, and yet they go for the „save“ and boring option.

  • The TIE Bomber easily could‘ve been based on Andor (yeah yeah, those were TIE Shuttles actually, but still)
  • Yoda‘s Jedi Starfighter could‘ve been Obi-Wan‘s blue one or Anakin‘s green version
  • The Yavin set could‘ve included RO minifigs
  • The Swamp Speeder could include Bly (technically still possible, not sure how likely that is tho)

Gahhh. Take it away, Krennic

Im bummed since I already have the 2013 one, but most people probably don’t at this point since it was released 10 years ago.

And it’s not good. It’s the last one to not include mini figs, the windscreen stickers were one of the worst things Lego has ever done, and the engines are comically out of scale.

I agree whole-heartedly. The newer style of Clone helmet is fine. It's not perfect but to call it awful and boycotting them is hilariously dramatic. And I agree about the holes in the helmet. For crying out loud, we finally get a phase 2 helmet that allows for attachments and people still complain.

It’s not boycotting, it’s just not paying money for something I don’t want. Plus it’s not like clones are close to my favourite part of Star Wars, so there’s a decent chance I wouldn’t be buying the sets in the first place anyways.

It's less about the presence of hate and more about a lack of love which is an important distinction.

Well Minecraft had the Minecraft Frog this year, that's a win, love that little guy.

And it also depends on what the NWH set is like too  though we do know more about it currently, the build sounds very lane TBH, I'm hoping it turns out to be more of a bust at a smaller scale than just the head.

I own the 2013 X-Wing and I'm really happy they're doing a remake. I modified the engines for the 2013 version because they were awful, frankly, and my mod isn't much better lol.

Upgrades, then, look to be 1) actually including a Luke minifig with excellent printing/dual-molded legs, 2) better engines, 3) better fuselage, 4) better tapering toward the front of the ship, 5) maybe more greebling?

The new version will have about 400 pieces more than the 2013 version, and I'll be interested to see where those pieces go. All in all, I am excited. Sad my UCS AT-ST re-release dream for 2023 is dead though.

I’m also good with this news. Aside from R2-D2, we’ve been on a hot streak of new UCS/MBS concepts for the last three years. (The Cantina, Gunship, AT-AT, Razor Crest, A-Wing and Landspeeder were all things that have never been made at this scale before.) This is one of the few UCS remakes we’ve gotten in recent memory.

I see a lot of people going “oh, another X-Wing?” but given that it’s been ten years since the last one, I think that it’s okay. I believe that Lego should always have at least the Falcon, X-Wing and TIE Fighter available at all times, both at a UCS scale and playset scale.

As for me, I’m usually not that interested in UCS sets unless they’re something that should be really big, like the Star Destroyer or Falcon, or are minifigure scale, like the AT-AT, Slave One or Razor Crest. That being said, a UCS-sized X-Wing and TIE Fighter are things I’d want for my collection. I’ll probably get this one sometime before it retires. I’m guessing we’ll get a standard TIE and Mando’s N-1 for the next two May UCS sets.

Spoke it into existence! Haha. I am excited for this, having missed out on the previous 2. The first one I was too young and the second one...never liked the engines, too small and good reminder from this forum about the sticker. I hope they fix those. I don't have an X-Wing, sorely missed in the UCS collection. Figure looks great (if true).

Nice year with this and Rivendell. Not interested in too much else at the moment. Considering the Andor set and dioramas maybe. Waiting for Mando and Ahsoka.

If we get a UCS Mando N-1 before we get an actual UCS Phantom Menace N-1... I would be completely unsurprised by LEGO's poor decision-making.

That would be not cool in my opinion. Would love to see TPM one first. I like that more than the Mando version. Again, just my opinion. But this is getting into wishlisting, so I'll leave it be

I’m down for a red 5 remake but it wasn’t at the top of the list. Looking forward to what lego can do with new techniques and parts. The quality of the last several sets has been top notch so this should be a significant improvement from the last version, let alone 7191. And I say that having both previous versions (along with every other UCS set).

I'm beginning to turn around my opinion on the new UCS X-wing. I own the 2013 version (was my first UCS set, now that I think about it) and would really like to see a new and improved version and potentially buy it. As long as R2's top half is correctly scaled to the model - I'm assuming it is since only Luke is the rumoured minifing - then it's already an improvement in my opinion. Oh, and the omission of stickers. If there are no stickers then it's a buy for me

Hopefully this also means that UCS TIE Interceptor/Bomber aren't too far away now too
