With that said, the leaked Sail Barge was in an incredibly primitive state, and therefore there's no way they could have a model finished up by this September to release. It's not the Sail Barge, full stop. I don't believe that this is all correct. Rivendell was not one of the survey sets, it just happened to leak around the same time. Also, I think it's pretty debatable as to whether or not the Sail Barge was complete or not, based off of the image we got. In addition, Promobricks said that it was reasonably possible that it could come this year, and the apparent price seems fairly in line with what we know about it. The main strike against is that the rumored piece count is pretty far off from the 650$ D2C, so while I would not bet on it, it is not entirely fair to say that it is guaranteed to not be the 2HY D2C. A playset of $150-$200 would make much more sense, especially considering that a D2C display model would be obliged to at least somewhat adequately fill the stands of the arena, whereas a playset would both have much less space to fill and have no such obligation to fill it adequately. I know that lego likes to have a large Death star on the shelves but I think it would be a mistake to release a new one this early, most AFOLs already have one of the earliest versions so they really have to cover it to give some new attractions and then it requires what 1500 parts extra to manage that? Just putting this out there, but a friendly reminder that per @JeanGreyForever Rivendell was NOT in the survey, so it has no bearing on when/if survey sets are more likely to release or not. We also don't know that the survey sets were in their current states at the time of the survey. While it is likely, we don't know when the survey was put together, and as concept sets for many of them, there could have been significant changes to the sets by the time the survey was actually released. Since the survey only looked at general interest for the sets and price points people would be interested in purchasing them for, it wouldn't have been necessary to give the most finalized models since they would still just be general concepts (albeit finalized may give more impressions, but the sets also had descriptions in the survey to fill in some missing details if the concepts didn't have them) As of right now, we shouldn't expect ANY survey sets until at least 2024 if they are given the go-ahead to be produced. I agree that whatever this set is will likely have a lot of figures. Unless its a Super Star Destroyer (I think it’d be bad to release two UCS remakes the same year though and honestly that also is a knock against MBS Endor as well) considering 2013 UCS sets were the X-Wing and Ewok Village. Which is why I think this is something new like Jabba’s Sail Barge or Geonosis (guess it could be the Mon Cal Cruiser as well but I just don’t know why that would be 650 dollars and have an awful price pre piece) Quote

Agree. It was one thing when the Cantina had two extra buildings + two speeders, since the speeders were in the same scenes, and the extra buildings gave playability for the Garindan + Jawa figures (and you can sort of loosely use one of them as the building where R2-D2 and C-3PO hide out), but I feel like Geonosis would just be adding things that weren't even in the same scene in order to pad a piece count. That's not even counting the problem of making a full size arena but only including the normal 20ish minifigures than an MBS would come with. That alone pretty much just signals that a playset makes way more sense, as they could easily scale down the stands so that it wouldn't look completely empty (or they could just include the balcony with Dooku, Jango, and the Separatist leaders, which honestly would probably work better). With respect to the $650 set, that picture we got of the Sail Barge looked nowhere close to a $650 set. Even if it included two skiffs and the Sarlacc pit (which I think are plausible to get with a minifigure scale UCS/MBS Sail Barge), that looked like a $350-400 set at the most. I know that the picture definitely wasn't a final version, since there were pretty much no exterior details, but it wouldn't make sense to make a preliminary model that's that much smaller than the actual set. At that point, you're basically designing a completely separate set. Even at the rumored price point for that from the survey (I believe it was $500?), I just wasn't seeing the piece count in that set, even if you added in the extra stuff + interior + details on the roof + 20 minifigures. The main problem is that I don't see anything that fits the bill of $650 MBS with that piece count. Endor maybe, if they included a shield bunker that's a little bit smaller than the size of the Cantina, an AT-ST, and then the Ewok Village that's about the size of the 2013 version, but that seems like a stretch, since it's a bit of a leap going from including two extra buildings with the Cantina to basically packaging two MBS sets together and calling it a day. The other issue, though, is that anything at a $650 UCS price point pretty much has to be a remake, and there's just not a lot that fits the piece count. SSD could make sense, as the ISD just retired, but would they do another remake in the same year? Someone already brought up that a non-minifigure DS wouldn't really fit the piece count, unless they somehow incorporated in small interior sections (like, it's mostly a globe, but there's areas where you can remove wall to reveal, say, Palpatine's throne room, or Leia's detention cell, etc). That also seems like a stretch, though. The only other vehicles that large that I could see actually actually selling and having demand at $650 are the Falcon (already exists), AT-AT (already exists), and SSD (just retired). Retro Brick Reviews Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 (edited) I'm going to put out my two-cents for the D2C and be done with it, since as @Kit Figsto pointed out it's very hard to think of something that both feasibly could be a 5200 piece set for $650 and is also iconic enough to fit that bill. That said, here goes: $650 Ewok Village. Firstly, it is iconic. I'd hazard to call it the most iconic location (not including barren deserts or snowy plains) in the OT after the three we've already had as MBS sets. Several major scenes in RotJ occurred there, including the final scene of the original saga. Secondly, while this rumored D2C is over double the size of the original Ewok Village, the original (while a great playset) was very scaled down and not overly detailed. If they did a similar section to the original set but at 1:1 minifig scale and with greater detail in both the trees and structures (think Ewok Village on a similar scale and level of grandiosity to the new Rivendell set), I could easily see it at 5200 pieces. Thirdly, the minifigures. An MBS set of this cost would need a hearty selection, and we know the original Ewok Village had 17. Nixing the Imperial troops and adding more Rebels and Ewoks to celebrate, a selection based purely on the ending scene could have 20+ figures with some actually valuable reprints (General Lando from the 2017 A-Wing, C-3PO from the Trash Compactor OR the UCS Landspeeder), some grHAVEt updates (Luke with the flap, Endor Dress Leia, Ackbar), Ewoks new and old (they could even recolor the baby bundle piece to be a Wokling), and, of course, this could be a golden opportunity for the LSW team to knock out the four most desired OT figures in one fell swoop: Nien Nunb and the three Force Ghosts. (This is of course presuming they've finally realized that they don't HAVE to be transparent, lmao). Oh, and bonus points for that if they make a new Wedge for Yavin IV they can also plop it in here. Fourthly, the evidence. While it being the RotJ anniversary means very little (we got two ESB sets for the ANH anniversary and a ROTJ set and an ANH anniversary), it's important to note the only 2HY minifgure that's leaked for Star Wars thus far: a Holiday Ewok. More often than not, if the exclusive Holiday figs aren't excessively era-generic (R2 or 3PO, in other words), they're almost always linked to the sets of that year. Ergo, it's very likely we do get Ewoks in some capacity later this year. With most of the sets spoken for, that leaves the MBS set and the unknown 1083-piece set. (And with Yavin already being a non-MBS playset this summer I would highly suspect the 1083-piece set to be a large ship rather than yet another playset). As to why it's not the bunker... it's not big enough even at 1:1 scale, as far fewer opportunities for interesting figs, and is just generally a boring gray trapezoid (Not a bad thing, just not worth $650). Also that scene basically requires an AT-ST, and I doubt they'd throw one in here while the Hoth version is still warming shelves. That said, I take full license to be wrong on this. See y'all in five months when LEGO reveals the new UCS Yoda's Escape Pod for $650. Edited February 24, 2023 by Retro Brick Reviews Quote

Promobricks claimed that the “leaked” Sail Barge had a piece of count of 6,000! Yet there is ZERO chance that leaked picture of the sail barge came anywhere close to 6,000 pieces which is why I think that photo is just a picture of some prototype sail barge lego made at some point. Even with 2-3 Skiff’s and a Sarlacc Pit that leaked picture looks like 2,000 pieces tops (throw in a pit+2-3 skiffs and maybe it’s 3,500 pieces.) so that’s why I still think the sail barge is the most likely UCS set this year. Meaf Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I said this a few days ago, but I really just don't think Lego could get away with making the Sail Barge $650. Even if the model doesn't resemble the survey version whatsoever, I just don't think it makes much sense. It's certainly iconic, but not iconic to the point that a lot of people would spend $650 on it. More importantly, there are other candidates that would most likely sell better. My bet would be on a new minifig scale Death Star or Ewok Village. @Retro Brick Reviews already made a great case for the latter, and I think the Death Star speaks for itself. It's gonna happen again sooner or later. I’d gladly spend $650 on a Sail Barge. (Well, not gladly, but I’d want it more than I’ve wanted any other Lego set ever.) And it’s a ridiculous argument that Lego wouldn’t make a $650 Sail Barge, because they already made a $600 Razor Crest, which is a ship that appeared in 14 episodes of a show and is significantly less iconic than the Sail Barge. It’s also just a less appealing build with less minifigs. Also if Lego is going to do a UCS Sail Barge, it would be really annoying for it to not be minifig scale. The Barge is 5 metres longer than the Razor Crest and 4.5 metres shorter than the Millennium Falcon. So they’d need to make it a really large minifig-scale set, or else there’s no point in making it larger than a $200 playset. For clarity, I’d absolutely love a large MBS Endor set, but Jabba’s Sail Barge definitely shouldn’t be any smaller than a $600 set if/when it’s released. Quote

Bigger, more expensive sets explicitly targeting an older, less toy-focussed audience. If it's not MBS then it's probably unlikely to be a playlet but more of a model that can sit on a shelf but have an interior like the UCS Razor Crest or AT-AT.
