Not to mention that LEGO knows they can sell more expensive sets on the virtue of having large animals (literally the entire Jurassic Park theme is that). If LEGO wanted to finally adapt the Geonosis Arena, why would they make 3 $15 sets and call it a day instead of making a $150 set with all 3 beasts and the arena? Quote

Otherwise for the scalpers. The 212 magazine hasn't made its way to the UK yet. Its still bo katan Quote

Perhaps it's a vaguely spoilery TBBS2 set, though sadly I doubt it. Skeleton Crew most likely isn’t releasing until very late this year so I wouldn’t expect any sets until next year. Most of the Disney+ shows haven’t had sets release until after the fact. I could be wrong though, and maybe that could be the reason why the details of this set are still unknown. After all, I thought a Phase 2 Rex fig, a new Gunship and more Fallen Order/Survivor stuff were all a no brainer for 2023 and here we are… And as for the Geonosis discussion, do we really think Lego is going to dedicate one of the most expensive Star Wars sets yet and what could be the biggest playset thus far to the Petranaki Arena of all places? It’s a fairly memorable scene and I do think it’ll get a set eventually, but I do not see it being done at this size or at this time. I know the prequels are fairly well liked now, but AOTC is still one of the least popular films. Lego hardly touches it as it is; to think that they’ll dedicate a $600+ set to it now is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Even as someone who’d like to see the Arena someday, I still think the build would be a bit dull as most of the arena is just stands for a countless number of Geonosians, which Lego obviously can’t include that many in the set. Personally, the only way I see this set being a playset or MBS set of some sort is if it’s another Death Star, and even then, they might want to change things up with this version instead of retreading the 2008 set for the second time. Yeah, this MBS arena discussion is even more Hopium filled than the gunship. At least with the gunship, the piece count makes sense and it would make sense for lego to release it this year, even if there is NO ACTUAL EVIDENCE that the gunship is coming. Geonosis, on the other hand, actively has the price point/piece count working against it. My guess is we'll see another smallish to mid size prequel MBS before we get anything near $650. Maybe it'll be a geonosis arena. Maybe not. But this set is almost certainly either a death star or a vehicle of some sort. Quote
Retro Brick Reviews Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 (edited) Also important to remember that, beyond being nigh-universally considered the black sheep of the six "Complete Saga" films, Attack of the Clones has always been underrepresented in LEGO Star Wars. As of now there have only been 21 AOTC sets, which is less than The Force Awakens (not to mention less than 50% of any of the other Complete Saga films), and the majority of those sets have been fairly inexpensive. It getting the biggest LEGO Star Wars location set of all time by over 1000 pieces is incredibly unlikely regardless of how well (or in this case, POORLY) the source material would be suited for a model of that magnitude. mirkwoodspiders Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 I've always had a soft spot for Attack of the Clones because it was the first Star Wars movie I ever saw in theaters, and it was a cool part of my childhood. I know it's not one of the better Star Wars films, but nostalgia alone would drive me to buy any set they produced for it. That, and I really do think the locations and ships are pretty cool. Quote

That's nuts to me. I always thought people considered the Phantom Menace the worst one. The set amounts are probably due to overlap in material with TCW, which in it's early seasons got massive amounts of sets. Doesn't seem likely we'll get much more anyway, as lego does seem to have noticed that most people prefer P2 clones, so any republic/CIS vehicle would most likely just be clone wars or ROTS based. 5 minutes ago, mirkwoodspiders said: I've always had a soft spot for Attack of the Clones because it was the first Star Wars movie I ever saw in theaters, and it was a cool part of my childhood. Lots of focus on a poorly executed romance. However, it all builds to and culminates in what's a very exciting and visually engaging finale, living up to the movie's name and beginning the Clone Wars. Between the Duel of the Fates and the Battle of Geonosis: both of them, and most of Lucas' movies, hit their crescendo. Points being (a) as you pointed out: podracing makes for better Lego sets than romantic "bodyguarding" on Naboo and (b) count me among those that'd believe a Geonosis arena set would do very well. It's a great sequence in an otherwise meh movie. Hopefully it happens sooner rather than later, whatever the price. (I liked richboyjhae's idea of breaking it up over a few sets, including an army builder [e.g. Geonosisans vs. Clones] in a wall/stands segment that could be purchased in multiples and linked together.) It's not like people were clamoring for the interior rooms of cloud city or a larger bar for mos eisley any more than people want the geonosian architecture. An arena would have interesting beasts (hopefully brick-built), and a recognizable structure, plus probably a midi-scale ship gunship, given that the last 2 MBS sets had vehicles included. Quote

Imo a Geonosis Arena set should primarily focus on the center area with the large portcullis and main viewing platform, with some play features sprinkled in and around. I think having a detailed centerpiece with the 3 pillars and beasts sprinkled around would make for a fantastic set in terms of both display and play at around the $150 price point and ~1000 pieces (again, Jurassic Park value). It's actually the same Luke as the MBS Cloud City. It was kind of crazy, because that figure was going for $50-60 on BL, then once the duel set came out, I think that number dropped closer to like $30, then once the magazine came out, it's roughly a $5 figure. I definitely would not mind at all if they put out more desirable figures in those magazine promos (even figures I already own). 1 hour ago, Mandalorianknight said: Not to say that it's the $650 set, because it definately isn't, but... about as much as any other MBS set, right? An arena would have interesting beasts (hopefully brick-built), and a recognizable structure, plus probably a midi-scale ship gunship, given that the last 2 MBS sets had vehicles included. See, I think Cloud City or Mos Eisley are at least a bit more interesting than the Geonosis arena, at least visually. Cloud City, in my opinion, has some of the most attractive visuals in the entire franchise (the scene where they're escaping at dusk is one of my favorites in the entire saga, in large part because of the combination of the scenery, plus the music is really good), and I think the set did a decent job of capturing that. Yes, the minifigures were a draw there, but it's also just a cool set, in my opinion. The Cantin, while it's just a tan rectangle, does have a really interesting interior and when you actually build it, you sort of appreciate all of the little greebly bits and textures that they managed to incorporate into it. The pictures don't really do that element justice to seeing it in person. I'm sure that a Geonosis set could be done well, but the problem is that, like, 90% of the architecture is just stadium seating that we don't really ever get a lot of closeups of. Looking at pictures online now, there's some cool rock formations and stuff, and the area that Dooku + the CIS leaders stand is interesting looking, but that's really about it. I think that's why it really lends itself best to a $100-150 set, where you could have the three pillars, the balcony area, a small section of seating, and maybe that little vehicle thing that the Geonosians used to bring Anakin/Obi-Wan/Padme out into the arena. With a $650 set, like 75% of that piece count would be going towards massive sections of the seating, and the issue is that once you include all of the main characters for the scene, you're left with, like, five extra Geonosians to populate the seats, which would kind of just look terrible on display. To answer the question about it being only appealing for the minifigures, I feel like there really aren't that many figures that we could ONLY get in a playset version of the arena. All of the important, named characters in that scene (Anakin, Obi-Wan, Dooku, Jango Fett, young Boba Fett, Mace Windu, Yoda, Nute Gunray, Poggle the Lesser, etc) with the exception of Padme, don't have any distinct outfits or appearance changes, whereas characters like Ponda Baba/Dr. Evazan or Cloud City Lando/Leia pretty much have to come in one set. All of those figures could definitely be included in other sets (and most of them have been). I think the main draw would be the creatures, I think a highly detailed Jango Fett would be popular, and then I think people would also be interested in a more detailed Padme or Dooku, since we haven't had them in a while. Legofan2001 Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 (edited) The neglect for AOTC by lego is just embarrassing and that’s why at this point we’re past a small play set for Geonosis Arena. Just think about this over the past 21 years we have gotten ONE Zam,ONE AOTC Padme ,TWO Dooku’s,ONE Kaminon. Not to mention that we’ve never had any sets based on the Naboo portion of the movie basically no sets based on Kamino, and only one based on Coruscant. Heck even for geonosis all we’ve gotten is Yoda vs Dooku set! Never gotten an Arena or Droid Factory. Still haven’t gotten a remake of Jango’s Slave One like it’s just ridiculous. TPM has also been neglected (No Theed sets or Boss Nass, and only two Padme variants over 24 years!) Lego has had an opportunity to make an arena for 21 years! And has just refused even so we’ve had multiple anniversaries and the 2013 round of sets. Keep in mind I don’t think it’s just AOTC/TPM that are neglected (Rebels,Bad Batch,ROTJ,Book of Boba and even TROS have been neglected to at least some degree as well) Edited February 26, 2023 by Legofan2001 Quote

Brickset definately supports that analysis. However, we can at least try to track lego's logic: Prequel films: Got big waves around the time of release. However, prequel sets dropped off almost completely around 2008, as lego produced a massive amount of clone wars sets, which contained many of the same characters and vehicles as that trilogy. Following declining numbers of TCW sets, we got large AOTC and ROTS waves in 2013 and 2014 respectively. From 2015-2019, 33-50% of sets were based on the upcoming films, meaning the overall number of Skywalker Saga sets took a dive, and since the OT tended to sell better, it got the lion's share of what remained. Following the end of the disney era of films, and lego's recognition of an increased uptick in prequel fans due to those who grew up with the trilogy reaching young adulthood (this dovetailing with a drastic increase in the number of young adults buying lego sets), we started recieving an uptick in prequel-era sets, specifically those including highly-requested p2 clone troopers. But again, due to the overlap in material, we still aren't getting many sets specifically for AOTC or TPM. Rebels: This one is super clear-cut. TLG released a massive rebels wave in January 2015, anticipating the series to be as immediately popular as clone wars was. However, likely in part due to featuring a cast of characters and vehicles the audience wasn't already familiar with, the sets sold fairly poorly. This led to very few sets being produced for later seasons, and those that were produced primarily focusing on vehicles from existing PT or OT material. Fan support for the show, however, increased as seasons went on, but lego's experiments with post-TCW TCW sets led them to believe any post-finale rebels sets would sell poorly. Given that they're listening to fans a lot these days, rebels sets are possible, but it's more likely that rebels characters and vehicles will find themselves packaged as part of the Ahsoka series. Bad Batch: As is documented even with Mandalorian, after the failure of rebels, TLG was extremely cautious with TBB, only producing one set. Inexplicably, we also got a $170 set based on a vehicle from one episode of the series, but other than that, few sets have been produced. This is likely in part due to TBB's vehicle overlap with the prequels and clone wars, but could also imply that the shuttle wasn't doing the numbers necessary to receive many more sets. ROTJ: Honestly I dunno, I feel like we've had quite a few ROTJ sets. Endor has definately been lacking a bit in recent years, but that's again most likely due to the 5-year period in which lego focused on new content, as well as the focus on Mando and clone trooper sets these past few years. Book of Boba: This one's not really neglected, per se. It got two sets around launch last year and it hasn't been long enough to judge whether or not they'll be producing more. Given the poor reception of the show, though, the only set I could see us getting is some final battle set with a rancor, the droid, and cad bane. TROS: I mean, after their initial waves, we've got very little for all of the sequels due to their poor reception. This one doesn't require much sleuthing. Quote

Here’s where I disagree on some of the prequel choices. Look the idea of a new swamp speeder is interesting IF it’s 327th but who was actually was asking for a swamp speeder remake ESPECIALLY if it ends up being Kashyyyk clones. Another example is the fighter tank remake last year. Look I bought the set and like the figures but who was actually asking for fighter tank remake especially with the purple clones which don’t exist in any movies, shows,or games. That set could’ve been a wheel bike chase remake with Cody and a 212th thrown in. With the AT-TE being used to give us the Captain Rex remake. 1 hour ago, YourLocalB2 said: Agreed about the Geonosis set but I think that we could have a small $20-25 set on for example, Padme and Anakin’s trip to naboo Oh I was just thinking that tbh.
