mortenm Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 It doesn't seem that the price tag on the Liebherr is gonna change 😔 Quote

Jockos Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 So it has 2 hubs, 6 motors and 150 cm height as opposed to the leaked box... I'm curious what's gonna turn out of it. Quote

If 150 is correct, that is a step in the right direction (in terms of price validation) At nearly 5 ft. that is certainly something to write home to mom about.... Like Jim, I think the Liebherr will probably sell quite well despite the price. And as such, the price won't ever be too high, until the set no longer sells because of it. Not that I would get with that kind of price, it's far beyond what I'm willing to pay for Lego. Quote

Let's also not lose sight of the fact that the value of parts the set contains factors in as well, especially new elements and existing ones in new colors. Even if the set by itself doesn't prove to be worth the money, many MOC builders (especially those who enjoy building heavy construction equipment) may still go after it gung ho for the parts it contains, especially the new frames and (possibly) new counterweight elements. While some of the set's new pieces, like the A-Frames, may be possible to find in the much cheaper 42157 set, the more useful straight variants (the 7x17 frames) will likely remain exclusive to this set until shops on Bricklink start selling them individually. Unfortunately, as we all know, there is an obvious delay that occurs between the official set's worldwide release and the separate sales of its individual parts. New parts are not sold individually until there are enough of them in general production, and the online shops stock them up. Until then, buying the entire 42146 set will be the only possible way to get these exclusive new pieces, so anyone who wants them before they are individually available will have no choice but to purchase the entire set regardless of whether they like the official model or not. TLG could benefit from this market in the time that it takes for Bricklink to start selling these new pieces outside of the 42146 set. But it's important to note that even after these new parts become available outside of the set they come in, they'll still be considered rare and expensive no matter what as long as they only exist in one set, especially after that one set is eventually discontinued. We'd have to wait until TLG uses them again in another set to drive those costs down. Edited May 11, 2023 by HydroWorld Outlook Quote

I don't think there are that many people who both have enough money to casually dispose and are in such a hurry to get the new parts that they couldn't wait for 6-12 months or whatever it takes to those parts to start appearing in BL for a good enough price. I believe most buyers will want to have the set for itself, to assemble it and to play with it. Some or all of those new parts might also find their way into PaB in a few months, though there's no certainty on that. For the parts that do make it to PaB it's much faster to get them for an affordable price than from BL. Quote
Jim Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I don’t mind paying this amount of money for a (Technic) set. I’m just not (yet) seeing the value in this one. But I will gladly wait for the reviews to prove me wrong. Quote

allanp Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 We didn't get leaked images of the other sets but we did get one for the Liebherr, maybe to gauge public opinion? For a similar PU content as 42100 (one less motor) and 150cm height, that comes closer to explaining the price. Maybe this could lift the top piece onto the 10307 eiffel tower? That would be impressive. Quote

pleegwat Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 I think 6 motors is also new? I'm pretty sure I've previously heard 1 hub. Quote

Yeah, previously that was the rumour, but according to Jim's info there's 6 motors and 2 hubs. That makes the price slightly more palatable, but unless there's also something else that's phenomenally cool, I don't see myself buying that (and maybe not even then, it's a lot of money.) Quote

Even with the price increases since that release 700 EUR seems to be a quite bold price tag that cannot be justified alone by the electronics included. Quote

Indeed, though the previously rumoured 1 hub and 4 motors would've been even more outrageous. Quote

pleegwat Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 I'm pretty certain there's previously been a set we were certain was going to contain two hubs, and ended up having only one and a gearbox. Regarding 42100, as I recall we knew at the time that it was priced low for the amount of electronics it contained. And I think something similar happened on PF's debut? That was in my dark age though. Quote
Bartybum Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 (edited) I'm very likely in the minority here, but damn I wish the upcoming Liebherr wasn't Control+, especially given how slow it'll undoubtedly be. Not only could it be far more affordable, but I also love when huge and slow models have gearboxes that require levers to operate them, like the BWE. You have to get your hands on the machine and physically interact with it to make it work. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity for my tastes, but I could understand why others may disagree.
