ks6349 Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 (edited) Do you think Lego will release similar baseplates to replace the retired sand baseplate? i.e. 10699 I think it shouldn't retire. Edited February 4, 2023 by ks6349 Quote
jonwil Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Right now LEGO isn't making the 32x32 baseplate in tan (which is why they don't sell it). Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 (edited) Thank you all very much for the information! Here are my thoughts on the winter wave: Poor sets: all Stuntz sets (immensly much money for nearly nothing) police academy (would have been an awesome idea, but the outcome is really bad: looks like a child's bad MOC, completely unrealistic, only rudimentary and absolutely overpriced) 4x4 off-roader adventures (tent is done absolutely without any love and would have needed real cloth or "plastic cloth" walls and the off-roader is much, much too huge) gaming tournament truck (the towing vehicle is only a bad joke and the trailer lacks big wheels) custom car garage (the colors are too freaky and mainly the building is missing) Average sets: mobile police dog unit (missing grill between driver's cabin and dog's cabin, no seats inside the driver's cabin and the trailer's tailboard is too small) emergency vehicle hq (that police is together with firefighters and ambulance in one building, is completely unrealistic and the building is missing roller gates for the vehicles and more interior) fire boat (missing turntable for the water shooter and the rooms downstairs are weird) police bike car chase (car is missing car doors) 4x4 fire truck rescue (car is missing car doors and a tailboard) Oustanding sets: fire command truck electric sports car penguin slushy van construction digger recycling truck park tractor atv and otter habitat (I will judge the off-road ambulance firstly when we have clear pictures of alle sides and the interior.) What do you think? Edited February 5, 2023 by Klaus-Dieter Quote

True, but Tan was still used for 2 years for the Garage and Diner modulars, after the "classic" 10699: 32x32 Sand Baseplate retired. But as history shows, not all colors will make it to seperately sold Classic products. Currently there are Light Grey, Dark Grey, and Dark Blue (Motorized Lighthouse) baseplates used in products, beside the lineup of 2022 "Classic" theme green, white, blue and 48x48 grey. Pick a Brick does still have those more obscure Light Grey, Dark Grey, and Dark Blue baseplates however , currently €9,91 , and €4,19 for 16x32 Dark Grey (Diagon Alley) , so that route seems to be the best way for "official" direct from LEGO in countries that have pick-a-brick website that is, otherwise bricklink etc. Edited February 5, 2023 by TeriXeri Quote

The Island Chronicles Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 So....my review on the 2023 wave so far. As far as a lot of sets are concerned, I'll be mostly using 2023 to catch up on sets I've missed in the previous years. The custom car garage was kinda disappointing to me, but I can use the cars that come with the set. So I'm looking for a good deal for that one as I will only be using the set for the cars. The police academy is pointless for my town as the officers in my town are trained at the police station. I currently have the emergency vehicle HQ in my town, which is an awesome piece. It actually acts as the 911 dispatch center in my town. I have the garbage truck, but I got bored of it quickly, though the trash cans that came with it are still used in my town. I also have the construction Digger, which will be useful and the penguin Slushy Van. Next is the electric sports car. Hopefully, they put some effort into the summer wave. Quote

The only officers in my town are exactly where they belong, in the prison cells. I don't have any 2023 sets, might buy some $10 sets that are $8 this week at Target, but the Emergency Vehicle HQ is a great. I rather have it for $70 than the training camp, just such a better value. As a child I would have loved to have a set that included, fire, police, rescue vehicles and a building with a criminal. TeriXeri Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) I think putting the logo from 60382: Vet Van Rescue , would make that off-road ambulance GWP a whole lot more interesting, the space is tiny to carry minifigs, but as small animal rescue vehicle, it seems more appropriate. It's just a simple piece swap of the 1x4x2 panel piece. Edited February 7, 2023 by TeriXeri Quote
Night City Dream Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 I wonder what City center, which will boast impressive 2010 pieces will look like. Seems like it will overcome the legendary 60097. I hope for a metro train. On 1/15/2023 at 10:50 PM, Poodabricks said: Man! I wish Lego would do a race course set. It would be a true excuse to make curvy roads plates. That leads me into something else too! People are saying that the road plates are set to be discontinued, but I highly doubt that as there are children who love to roll their Lego vehicles on them when playing pretend and there are adult town builders who use them for their towns. So I personally think they'll stick around, especially there is a new pedestrian crossing piece that I believe leaked on Instagram - can't really find a picture of it. Some other ideas I have other than the race course are......well....you've gotta go on the Ideas for new City sets forum to see those. Who says road plates are set to be discontinued and what road plates? The new system you mean, like 60304? I actually was hoping this year we would be getting curves, crossroads and much more. Maple Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I'd love a bendy bus! I made an ex of mine sick by sitting in the bend. hahaha Quote
danimarroquin Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I would love more Lego buses , I think so far we had 4 Buses in sets . would be lovely to have a BUS STATION set ! with a intercity double deck and a articulated bus , that would be amazing . Also an airport bus wouldn’t be a bad idea . Quote
jonwil Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 A set similar to https://brickset.com/sets/8404-1/Public-Transport-Station would be great. Quote

TeriXeri Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 (edited) Tbh, a Bendy Bus should be it's own set, already large enough type of vehicle, and being it's own set will also help the bus lovers with expanding/modding their vehicles easier if they had multiple sets, without extra buildings/vehicles to go alongside. I mean, City does have it's bus sets, but they always were part of something larger : Pizza restaurant 2009 Transport Station 2010 Town Square 2013 Bus Station 2017 (so far the smallest side builds) Capital City 2018 Train Station 2022 Price would probably be something ranging from €50-60 if sets like Game Truck, Fire Command Truck or Stunt Truck ring of fire are examples of 2023 large vehicles. Of course the side builds, number of minifigs, overall size and detail plays a role, but I think a large bendy bus deserves to be it's own set. As for a tram, that should really be sold as a seperate vehicle as well, but gets more complicated when it comes to scale, like it could run on "rollercoaster" track or train track, both have their upside and downside. I think making a tram on rollercoaster track is more interesting and would not make it just a short train, and has possibility of vertical elevation (think 6399: Airport Shuttle) but the curves are perhaps a bit too tight, or would need a proper bendy mechanism/turntable that can be used for both tram and bus. Or LEGO could bring back the narrow track to solve those issues, but that seems very unlikely, seeing how often roller coaster tracks are used in place where narrow tracks perhaps could've been used. Yeah! I actually came up with the idea of having a bendy bus be in the Great Vehicles category of City sets. However, some other members on the forum actually brought up a valid point as to why Lego doesn't do standalone buses - because they'll have to add buildings into the set for them to go to. That's why we mainly see them in sets that'll likely burn a huge gap in your wallet. With police vehicles, its easy to stick a car and/or a criminal for them to chase. For a fire engine, its easy to put something in there that is on fire. A patient for an ambulance. A vehicle for a tow truck to tow, etc. But for buses.....well, where is the bus going? That could probably explain why sets like 8404 and 60154 sorta flopped the way they did. Because kids didn't know where the bus was going. Its a theory that I think its bogus. Or would it be more accurate to say that I don't want to believe it, given the various police stations, fire stations and hospitals that Lego gives the City theme, I personally doubt that the bus would have no where to go. As a former public transit worker, I actually used to drive through hospital parking lots all the time. Edited February 12, 2023 by Poodabricks Quote
