Turns out we have a store in the next city called 2nd & Charles that seems to be affiliated with Books A Million somehow. I'll have to take a look next time I'm near there. I went in there once and they've got books, collectibles, records, cd's, videos and some other stuff. I know they buy used books & stuff but I don't recall seeing magazines when I was in there. Quote

I’ve been to 2nd & Charles, particularly the one in charlotte when I’m visiting family up there, they occasionally have Lego sets, I remember scoring the eternals domo for $65 there, bad movie, but those sets were 🔥 Edited June 12, 2023 by Lemerbrix Quote
jonwil Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 I wish I could get these Lego magazines and sets here in Australia but they aren't available anywhere :( Quote
williejm Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Do people even keep the magazines? I just buy them occasionally if there’s a figure or polybag with them I want Quote

danimarroquin Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 I still don’t get it why in America has to wait till august 1st for the city summer sets when they fully available in Europe and rest of the world . Is it because of the factory in Mexico ? Is this why they are building the factory in Virginia ? Quote

Is it because of the factory in Mexico ? Is this why they are building the factory in Virginia ? The story I've heard in the past is the American retailers want fresh product on the shelves for the holidays. So rather than have these sets sitting on the shelf all summer with little to no new offerings as the holidays draw near they delay the release of some lines until August. By then the kids have headed back to school and aren't seeking new toys to keep them occupied so parents & relatives have something new to give them when the holidays roll around. Makes a bit of sense that they delay the City sets as those are aimed more at the kids. Some of the stores near me are just now finally getting in the rest of the January releases and have finally started reducing prices on sets from last year. Quote

If I had to guess, the Ninjago sets are probably being released this month to tie in with the global release of the new season of the show (which is being majorly promoted as a new series and a refresh of sorts for the brand). City, on the other hand, no longer has any major media tie-ins to have to sync up with. Quote
karrit Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 So basically that article corroborates what I posted earlier. It also would explain why it seems that smaller Walmarts turn over their Lego stock what seems to be more often than the Super Walmarts. Less shelf space so they need to make room for newer product. Indeed, with 2019, repeating characters like Duke Detain (Police) and Freya McCloud (Fire) showed up for the first time, which was later followed by a whole cast of characters during 2020-2022 , including the Stuntz theme and Advent Calendars. Duke Detain (& many others) are still in some 2022 sets, but with 2023 sets, there are no returning LEGO City Adventures characters seen as minifigs in sets (1 exception being a magazine gift that has a Duke Detain minifig, currently still found in 2 other 2022 sets) 2023 City still has named characters , like Rocket Racer (which has a history long before LEGO City was even a Theme) and a new character named Fearless Fi , are featured in set 60361: Ultimate Stunt Riders Challenge and a bunch of suggestions for people to modify their own custom things from other current City products , for example "Build a Supercool Multi-Purpose Car Challenge!" video found on the LEGO media section of the site, and Youtube, shows custom cars built out of various 2023 City products. I think it's great LEGO is showing kids that it's perfectly okay and cool to modify and mix their LEGO sets. Edited June 13, 2023 by TeriXeri Quote

There’s two more, go-to Gary (he is in the 4x4 off roader adventures, one with the dark blue hat) and mech max (mechanic in the yellow wheelchair, custom car garage) one thing I noticed, though, is that the arctic/underwater explorer sets have a lot of repeated minifigures, for example, there’s a minifigure with a new color for the hat/hair beanie that was introduced in hidden side, she appears in the snowmobile and explorer ship, as well as a character with empress Beatrix’s hair in dark red, who appears in the submarine and the ship, there are other repeated characters as well, but when was the last time Lego city repeated an unnamed character in multiple sets? And before you say anything chase mccain doesn’t count Quote

And before you say anything chase mccain doesn’t count There have been a whole bunch of generic repeated unnamed characters before LEGO City Adventures, I could find multiple within 2017 Jungle or Police, and that's not including the Polybags or Magazines. But there also have been suggestions of people growing up, across multiple years. 2016 60134: People Pack - Fun in the Park (couple with baby) 2018 60182: Pickup & Caravan (baby has grown) 2021 60283: Holiday Camper Van (new generation) And while it's not City, Chinese New Year sets also had some suggestions of repeating, unnamed character couples across sets. The 2 spectators from Dragon Boat race 2019, show up again in 2021 shirts in 2021 Spring Lantern Festival, and then cleaners in 2022 Lunar Traditions ,and then as Parade participants (with flags) in 2023. And then the parents , boy and girl from 2019 Chinese Dinner , show up again at the 2020 Temple Fair, 2021 Spring Lantern Festival, 2022 Lunar Traditions ,and also in the 2023 Parade as spectators (children have varied hair but the parents are definately the same) Grandparents from the 2019 dinner also show up again at 2020 Temple Fair. Grandparents from 2021 Story of Nian show up again at 2022 Lunar Traditions. (individual figs repeating is a bit of guesswork, but couples, parents , grandparents are easier to spot patterns, especially if their faces and hair remain the same) Edited June 13, 2023 by TeriXeri Quote

We're talking the best selling theme amongst children and that's an even bigger case since 2022, thus why we had to wait for certain sets. Thing is, Lego knows that certain City sets will sell. That's why they held off the grocery store and train station like they did back in 2022. Because they know people will want it. So for 2023, which has a lot of goodies being released for the summer, they know that the sets will fly off of the shelves. This is apparently not the case for other countries, but for the US, its a big deal. Quote
