Of note is that this gives us rough prices for the train products (the fire products are already on Shop @ Home so we get prices from there)

I do hope that someone gets the fire sets as part of the mid-year sales, I want the helicopter and the station.

They seem pretty set prices to me - $29.99 for train crossing  , but $299.99 for the cargo train :hmpf: (at least Myer don't have these this time eh ?) I'm a conformist! ! :sweet:

Remember that the train includes all the Power Functions parts (including the rechargeable battery). Those are not cheap.

It's fantastic when you make a find like this..........

Lego city fire and trains 2010 August at Mr Toys (QLD)

It is written 15th of August that Lego city fire and trains will be available.

I wonder if a major chain will get the fire sets for the great mid-year toy sale eh ?

I'm a conformist! ! :sweet:

Thanks for the link lightningtiger :classic:

I had fun browsing around, they have prices for new Kingdom and Harry Potter sets (woah....$200 for Hogwarts Castle but it is HUGE and...licensed)

BTW, I guess no one has spot any Prince of Persia sets in stores here yet?? :cry_sad:

Kmart now has Ben10, but no PoP yet - overheard staff at a Kmart say week to week and a half - for what I don't know although they are aware of a new theme (which would be PoP).

Also you are welcome 'chibi_joker' :sweet: , I am glad to pass on any information for all of us to share and learn from.

I'm a conformist! everyone. :sweet:

Didn't notice the FB at the Cannington TRU.

Tomorrow would be a good day for another look if you wanted one :classic:

Myer was actually one of the better stores to get the Lego Trains from as they actually have %off sales unlike Toyworld. So here's hoping Myer gets them again.

Thanks Chibi_joker for alerting me to there being prices of other sets there. They appear to sell at RRP so here's a list at what are a good chance to be the RRP for a bunch of sets later in the year

Star Wars

Turbo tank $240

Slave 1 $150

Palpatine's shuttle (I accidentally typed an 'i' instead of 'u' in shuttle at first! maybe subliminal) $110

Grievous starfighter $100

Plo Koon's starfighter $50

Wampa cave $80

Harry Potter

Hogwarts $200 as stated

Hogwarts Express $130

The Burrow $100

Quidditch $30

Dobby $18

Hagrid's Hut $70

Prince of Persia

Battle of Alamut $140

Quest against time $80

Fight for dagger $59

Ostrich race $30

Desert attack $18 (the only genuine value set amongs all those I've listed)

Lego Kingdoms

Castle $170

Prison tower $90

Outpost attack $35

Prison carriage $18

Knight's showdown $13

City

Lego truck $50

There are many more listed there, such as world racers theme, hero factory, but I tried to cover the bulk of what AFOLS will be interested in.

And now for the inevitable discussion on prices, particular with the Aus $ so strong. I'll start, Harry Potter prices are about as expected I'd suggest, the PoP desert attack was a pleasant surprise, some of the SW sets were not so pleasant surprises.

$100 for the Burrow?! That was the HP set I wanted second most! :cry_sad:

$80 For Wampa Cave?!That's just ridiculous, I wouldn't pay $50 for the Wampa Cave..

The rest are actually alright-ish...

I'll be waiting for 20% off RRP somewhere for The Burrow, as for the Wampa Cave, 40% off might convince me, but for now I'm more than happy to pretend my Yeti is a Wampa, and I already have 3 snowspeeders.

That's what I'll be doing 15 or 20% is better than nothing, looks like I'll be making another phone call.

Hey - Guys, I found SOME good news after all; The Portal of Atlantis set will only be $160, brilliant since it has over 1000 pieces.

Not actually interested in a Fire Brigade at that price.

Green Grocer or Grand Emporium maybe but not FB, not enough bits in it I can use :)

As for LEGO and their Australian prices, I am surprised they can get away with charging so much.

When I look at the prices of many sets (licenced and otherwise) vs the price of other toys including other construction toys and think from the perspective of a parent, I start to think that many parents are going to look at huge prices and buy other toys (and indeed I have seen it happen in LEGO aisles already).

I know TLG has all sorts of reasons (demands by big retailers like Wal-Mart, the GFC etc etc) to need to subsidize the US at the expense of other countries but if the high prices continue, they are going to see sales shift to other cheaper toys.

Also, retailers will stock less LEGO product and more of other products (including other construction toys such as Mega Blocks, Knex and Trio)

I for one have been doing a LOT more bricklink buying and a LOT less purchasing in the shops.

There are a number of 2h2010 sets I have been looking at buying but at this point, I will likely just buy the really good bits from Bricklink (and for sets like the Creator jet fighter, I will likely just try to build from my own collection and buy the few parts I dont have rather than spending the 80 bucks or so on the thing).

Has anyone else noticed any trends in LEGO sales? Are parents buying LEGO or are they being turned off by the higher prices and buying other toys instead?

Well the toyworld link provided earlier gives it a date of September 15, so more than 150 sleeps, save a dollar a day and it's yours!

These prices are high, but no real surprises to be had.

Most of the second half releases seem designed to be discounted heavily in the lead-up to Xmas. Look at the Venator last year - was any retailer seriously trying to sell it for $240?

$200 for the HP castle isn't too bad considering the US price is $US130 - at least they didn't outright double it! It should be a bargain when it gets cut down to $160 or $150.

The Shreiking Shack was $AUD100 in 2004 (although it didn't sell well at that price) so $AUD100 for The Burrows is not a surprise and it has a lot of good stuff.

$140 for Alamut? You could buy one off Bricklink with USPS shipping for a little over that right now. It is an amazing set, I will be definitely grabbing multiples of this one  I think it's easily the best Castle in the last decade or more and probably one of the best parts packs ever. No big pieces (apart from 2 Castle turrets), just bricky goodness all the way!

I remember the Azkaban 4757 castle was $250 when it came out and this year's castle seems very similar in size, features and figs, so not a bad deal to be had. I do remember a lot of HP sets a few years ago being half price, maybe the initial pricing was why they didn't sell so well. I guarantee this years lot will sell a lot better.

Unfortunately SW is out of my price range now, particularly when so many better value sets that are great from other themes are available. Then again, a lot of AFOLs like me have almost every ship or scene from SW that they could want.

Are you sure? It was $AUD160 when I bought it from DJs at full-price... and then $70 at Big W in the post Xmas sales a few months later. Aaah, good times! I wish I'd bought more than one.

Yeah, at Target, I remember it being reduced from $250 to $125, unless Target were being sneaky claiming bigger markdowns than were true. I would have bought it then but the box was smashed. Perhaps strange things were happening with the Aus $ back then and there was some fluctuation in price. But $160 would have been a bargain when the shrieking shack was $100.

LEGO 8043 Motorized Excavator

Due 15/9

Price: $349.99 :cry_sad:

LEGO 8053 Mobile Crane

Due 15/9

Price: $179.99 :sceptic:

I need a new job.

Remember that the motorized excavator contains more electric pieces than we have seen in any LEGO set to date except Mindstorms.

Its got 2 remotes, 2 receivers, at least one battery box (if not two) plus who knows how many motors to drive all those linear actuators.

With the 20% off toys sale at Target, 8063 technic tractor with trailer now has a clearance price of $40. There was three left at Burwood (NSW) earlier this arvo.

Agree, the Wampa set costs way more than I expected! I thought it was an okay set but that price really put me off. Lucky I got my hand on Yeti's Hideout from Orient Expedition a couple of weeks ago so I got a Yeti as well :classic::classic:
