Laygo Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 (edited) I'd probably be interested in getting a small share of a box (say, $50 worth), but I don't think I'd get away with spending hundreds. On a side note that might be of interest to fellow Adelaidian's, there appears to be a Lego speciality shop going up in a little group of shops opposite Wirreanda High School. I doubt very much that it's official since it isn't a flash shopping centre or anything, but the windows are covered in brown paper and there are a lot of Lego logos. There appeared to be 'under construction' signs featuring a picture of a minifig as well. Very exciting! Good spotting. Some points that may be of interest. It isn't an official Lego store. It isn't a second toy corner store. It isn't a Dacta education centre. (yet?) Its "The Laygo Shop" opening in the VERY near future. Buy your Lego from the Laygo shop Maybe seeya soon :) Edited May 16, 2010 by Laygo

Reading my post back I feel bad for saying 'not a flash shopping centre or anything' - I just meant I would expect an official Lego shop to pop up in the Myer centre in the city for example. I meant no disrespect... So will this new Laygo store fill a similar type of role as the Toycorner place on the other side of town (ie, selling older sets, bulk bricks etc)? I'd imagine it would be hard to compete with the likes of BigW/Kmart on the current stuff! Oh, and best of luck with the new place - I work fairly close by so I'll definitely be coming by for a look!

Are you doing any sort of membership program? I look forward to coming in and having a look.

You have placed a few orders with me. And thankyou for those and the compliments. Thanks also for the well wishes Im really looking forward to it, Its been something that i have wanted to do for a while now. I look forward to coming in and having a look. Another local Lego lover wow they really have been coming out of the woodwork since i put the signs up on the shop. I didnt realise there were so many in the southern suburbs. Im not sure about an opening sale at this stage, I will be more likely to have a sale in about a month down the track when im a bit settled and i want to go on a huge marketing drive. And yes there will be some kind of membership program. I will probably work out the finer details of that in the next week or so. Look forward to seeing you. Regards Steve Sounds good! It wont be as big as Toy Corner at this stage but Im sure that even Toy Corner wasn't as big as it is now when it first opened either :) As far as the parts go it will be your usual stuff that you can buy on Lego shop at home pick a brick and a Minifig wall as well. Look forward to seeing you. Steve Edited May 17, 2010 by Laygo

Buy your Lego from the Laygo shop Maybe seeya soon :) Hi Steve, Best of luck with the store, but I'm a little uncertain about the name. The word LEGO is trademarked, and since you are selling the exact same thing I think Laygo could easily be argued to cause confusion with that trademark. To me it seems like that name is begging for a cease and desist letter from TLG, and they are very protective of their trademarks, to the point of not allowing fan conventions to use their logos etc. I'm not a lawyer but I think you might save yourself a lot of hassle and signwriting money by avoiding that name. hawkyboy4 Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 hear hear hear hear !(couldnt help myself..) I think we need to stop now, or the subject will be deleted or made into a random thread. Anyone know where the target distibution centre is?

Hewman Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) It was mentioned on brickset that toyworlds now have the collectible minifigs. I just had a look at Adelaide Rundle Mall toyworld, and they had just unpacked them out of the box. They got two boxes in. As I'm on a strict lego budget since splurging on all the PoP sets I only got two, a zombie and a spaceman. They were busy with stock so were happy to let me sort through them. It took me almost forty (barcode method used) to find my first zombie and over 45 to find the first spaceman. They were $4 each and will be in a catalogue on sale in 6 weeks (if any are left). My advice is if you're just wanting to pick up a few at random, don't grab ones next to each other in same column. I encountered 4 ninjas in one column in two lots of two in a row, also all the robots and spacemen must have been in the last row I looked at. Assuming the 3 full sets plus extras per box, this means that the last column had at least three spacemen and three robots out of the 20 figs. Also a note to be gentle with the packets, you need to lift up the middle join to see the edge of the barcode and it's not nice to leave them bent and mangled for others (ok, that's my preachiness for the day over). PS I've opened the zombie and the barcode got it right, I'm sure spaceman won't be a problem but I'll let you know if it is. Edit: Just opened spaceman, the design is beautiful, ray gun is fantastic, cool helmet mold, however there is a definite milkiness to the white colour of the fig, particularly with the helmet. My white spacemen from 1979 would still look whiter, so for all lego said about this being part of their regular line with all the quality control entailed in that, it clearly isn't the case. Also the clutch power of the feet on the stand felt sub-par as well. Edited May 18, 2010 by hewman

Well if you are getting back into it now my guess is its going to be more of an expensive hobby than when you were a kid as you can get what you want when you want rather than wait til xmas or your birthday Im opening tommorow at around 11.00 i just had to have my final pre opening meeting with the Lego reps today. Regards Steve

Regards Steve That's great that you are an official distributor, I hear that can be pretty hard to become. Good luck and any chance of you putting up some pics of your shop once it's nicely stocked?
jonwil Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Great to know that the minifigures are now available. Will have to call up a few Toyworlds and see who has stock. Any tips on what I should say regarding the use of the bar-code (or feel in the bag) methods so that I dont get strange looks/questions from the Toyworld employees?

Regards Steve Wow, that's quicker than I had expected! I might not make it to open day but I'll definitely pop in some time this week. I'll try and convince one if the guys at work to come with me! Great to hear Lego are okay with the shop name (I assume). I like it, especially since I keep getting told us South Aussies are the only ones in the world that pronounce it that way instead of 'Leggo'. That can't be true... I don't suppose you'll have an Imperial Flagship?

I just asked if they minded if I had a look through the box. They had it at the counter, so it wasn't like I could wreck or steal things, and being well and truly adult I look responsible.

I hope all goes well.
emilyjem Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Hey all, does anyone know if the Target sale ends tomorrow or 26 May? I'm sure it was originally the 26 May but on lasoo.com.au, it is now saying it ends tomorrow. Too early for any minifig bargains! Also I have heard that the Toyworld in Fyshwick, ACT, is selling the minifigs for $2.99 - seems pretty cheap. Final bit of info, I have started a LEGO Australian news blog which got featured on Brickset today, very exciting. It is still a work in progress but hoping it can get the stamp of approval from you guys as you are such a good source of Aussie news. If anyone wants to contribute just let me know. Any feedback or ideas are also most welcome! I am trying to get a LEGO store locator and a price comparison search up and running as well. The address is www.bricksdownunder.com Cheers
