I Scream Clone Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 www.legoshop.com And as Svelte said, the percentage difference isn't that surprising, it just seems so much worse with such an expensive set. With shipping it will be close to $500. The disappointing thing is it's difficult to get big exclusives from the US, as you have to go through a third party that will want their cut on top of RRP and pay a lot for shipping. Dont stress it too much, it will just turn yellow anyway.
Friction Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 If you don't mind paying the extra dollar or two, then ebay is a great place to find minifigures. I managed to collect them all through ebay. A few I had to pay a little higher for, but at least I know I have them all.
Svelte Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Well, at current exchange rates you will be able to get it from Star Wars shop for about $430 including shipping. If they have a 20 or 25% off sale and you manage to grab one before they sell out (the Tantives always seem to vanish first) it will be even better. And you get stuff there in under a week with nice shipping rather than the S@H package-smash lottery. Not a great saving but better than nothing. It's still not for me! I wonder if Obi Wan's starfighter will hit $200? It wouldn't surprise me. I tell you what does make my blood boil, comparing the UK and Aus prices. 99GBP for the Tantive IV is $AUD170 now. It's not so much a slap in the face but a kick in the crotch while being keelhauled over a pit of piranhas.
jonwil Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Picked up the Farmer impulse and Wizzard impulse from Toys R Us in Morley today. Plenty of both available. No sign anywhere of the City House, Public Transport or Jester impulse :( Don't bother asking anyone at TRU about sets they are getting in. If its not on the shelf then as far as the employees are concerned, it may as well not exist.
lightningtiger Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 My son's got another Lego Club parcel in the mail.....interesting part is members only CITY ADVENT CALENDAR offer ! $29.99 + 13 bucks post for one...........59.98 + 15 bucks post for two........89.97 + 17 bucks post for three.....there appears to be a limit of three per member. Dam, I don't have a credit card any more......ah money order......I can smile again ! Keep in bricking everyone !
jamonlego Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 This is a question for all of those in Brisbane. I'll be there on the weekend on the way to Far North Queensland and was wondering what the toyworld in the Myer Centre is like as I'll be staying right near there. Do they have many sets not available at shop at home any more? Thanks Hi, as luck would have it, I was in Brisbane city today - the myer centre toyworld is pretty good - it has most of the recent sets, inclduign castle, which so far looks like a toyworld exclusive - they are pricey though - always at RRP - there is a second toyworld in the brisbane mall, but they have pretty much the same items. The myer centre has myers - has a lot of the recent star wars sets, and trains, inclduign train station and street crossing - all at RRP - target is also in the Myer centre and they have the Racers series. Big W is not too far away either - at the bottom end of the mall, and is cheaper (everyday price) for new star wars and hero sets - they also have some city sets and a few others, but are running low. They did have 4 of the lego games there today, including the harry potter board game. D.J's in the city don't have much new at the moment - I normally find the range varies between all of them, and you need to do the rounds to see whats there - certainly if there are no sales, then BIG W is the cheapest - if a sale, then go with that - although I don't think there are any this weekend - was there something in particular you were after ?
alepto Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Minifig- series one - target - melbourne CBD - 5 boxes.

Last year the Lego Club sold the Advent Calendar for $29.99 and S@H had it for $39.99 so if that is true again it's not such a bad deal. Big W is not too far away either - at the bottom end of the mall, and is cheaper (everyday price) for new star wars and hero sets - they also have some city sets and a few others, but are running low. TheDarkness Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Okay, blow your mind time......BigW.....and you thought the mid-year toy sale was big.....selected city, TS, TS3 and SW sets reduced - example city garage 85 bucks !!! WTF and OMG at that price I'll stick one on layby. But and here's the but.....it might be online sales only.....must check a BigW today...unless someone beats me to it ! I'm a conformist! ! Cheers for this. Ordered 3 TS sets online, cheap as shipping too at a whole $13, so now only have one set missing to form a full collection. Haven't ordered from Big W online before (we have no store here) so we shall see how it goes
Whittleberry Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 There are actually 6 boxes of minifigs in the Melbourne CBD Target, one is located in a different shelf location to the other 5. Can I just say, to the person who cherrypicked the CBD Target's fig boxes for zombies and cheerleaders, you missed a cheerleader, which is now MINE! SUCK ON THAT BIATCH Not that I care much because Target in Camberwell has A WHOPPING 15 OR SO BOXES OF UNCHERRYPICKED MINIFIGS, although that's not quite uncherrypicked now as I have been shopping for myself and on behalf of Svelte I also helped a kid and his mum complete a set of the first series figs without breaking the bank and was thanked profusely And I met an AFOL who is collecting the figs, a young asian lady who was recently brought to the dark side by a LEGO set bought at the toy sale a few weeks ago. She had the THE LEGO BOOK/STANDING SMALL combo in tow, the label said either $30 or $40 so that's available in Target now. Also, Target in Glen Waverley has a meagre 3 boxes, next to the cash registers. Also, This is a public service announcement: "wizard" is spelled "W-I-Z-A-R-D"

So busy with work, Lego is getting neglected..... Ah well, I'm really looking forward to Series 2

When I was little, I used to write stories about "wizzeds" haha. I found an old writing book and about half way through it the stories changed to be about "wizards" ... probably about the same time I learned to read a dictionary...
Hewman Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Dont stress it too much, it will just turn yellow anyway. Yeah I probably wasn't going to get this anyway unless the price was great as I like my ships swooshable. I've been waiting for another starwarsshop.com sale as they haven't had one for ages, the Tantive IV at their price is quite appealing. Thanks Jamonlego, the info is much appreciated . I was looking for some older agents (2008) or power miners (2009) sets as they're near impossible to come by in Adelaide. And LightingTiger, thanks for the info about the advent calendars. I just have to hope my membership from the myer sale has been processed. Maybe we could split shipping?
Svelte Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 hewman alerted me yesterday that B&N is now updating with the US summer sets and this morning they've added a few more including the Slave I for US$80. I got the Kingdoms Castle and a Dragon Tower for about $AUD190 including shipping, not a bad deal at all considering the retail here for both of those is $270 and I haven't seen them in stores yet (no Toyworlds around central Sydney).

The dragon tower was there? I didn't see that. So tempting, dragon tower and slave 1. Sounds like they're updating continuously.

BrickTango Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 So I am assuming B&N ships to Australia? Oh No! One more place to shop from for my addiction!
Svelte Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 The bwilliant thing about B&N is that they ship so cheaply. It's US13 for the first item and then a bit for each one after that (for standard shipping 7-21 business days, you can also express it.) Obviously they have some flat rate deal with their supplier since it doesn't change whether you're buying a book or a giant LEGO set. Compare that with any other seller, either shipito or starwarshop.com, and it's pretty sweet. I've made several orders now and never had any problems. All the large sets I've had come boxed and in a US mail sack! Certainly no worse than buying off ebay or Bricklink and without the markup. When they have discount codes it's even better! They don't have the full LEGO range and obviously no exclusives but if you buy a large set and pay the shipping, it still works out significantly cheaper than buying a set for full-price here, and if there's a really good deal you can save significantly (like the $AUD67 Alamut sets inc shipping a few weeks back.)
jonwil Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Its a pity B&N wont be getting either the City Public Transport or the Grand Emporium in stock :(

I had zero expectation of finishing my series 1 set after missing the earlier shipments, but Camberwell still had plenty of boxes on the aisle end. Me = very happy (and I was able to help a kid and his Mum get the robot minifig) Edited August 19, 2010 by gmask1
Hewman Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 (edited) Just found "The Lego Book" at Target dring my lunch break, for $40, way cheaper than anywhere else in Aus, and probably less than ordering from amazon once you factor in postage. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, a link is below to it on brickset, includes 2 books in a hard cardboard casing, it definitely places too much emphasis on more recent (2008-09) sets but still worth getting I think. The Lego Book Whoops, jus tnoticed Whittleberry mentioned it, but I can confirm it's $40. Edit Is this a first, the same star wars vehicle/ship being in the top seller list on shop at home twice Edited August 19, 2010 by hewman
jamonlego Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I believe Big W have two agents sets - but not from 2008 series - haven't seen any of those for quite a while now - the best bet for old sets that I have seen in Toyworld in Springwood/underwood - may be worth a call, but they are still 20 minutes south of town
