Hey, it was 4 posts above, give me some credit. I read 3 posts above and that was my limit Cmon Pirate's I say. Snag some bargains for the pre christmas sales.... Svelte Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 This sales stuff is insane, so many stores to keep up with :pir-skull: It's one upside of the economic woes. Luxuries (including toys) discounted as retailers compete against each other for the consumer dollar! Yay for us! Last year's post-Xmas sales were woeful in Sydney, but I think this year they may be spectacular (if there's anything left on the shelves to buy!). I suspect however next year it will mean less of a variety of themes on shelves though as retailers might be more careful about what they order from Lego. Eg Mars Mission didn't sell well, so they may not rush to order a new Space theme... This is one reason why the King's Castle Siege never made it here in large quantities - $100 plus sets don't sell well in the Australian market (except for Star Wars) and the previous large KK and KK2 sets were all clearanced. Similarly, Alpha Team wave 1 did poorly and as a consequence we only got a few of the Deep Freeze range and again, only from Target... 2009 will be an interesting year indeed.

Some very very interesting points you have there Although it is always true pretty much that we wont get the Jan. line up til about February. Happens most years except if you go to Myer they always have their stuff on time Tobad I can never go there 09 ON!
Whittleberry Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Myer has 25% off LEGO from tomorrow. I went there today and bought the 10143 Death Star II, and I asked for a discount because the box was a bit beat-up, and they offered to give me the sale price 1 day early. Woot! This is their reply to DJ having their massive sale.

Darth_Legois Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 10Q! town plan here i come! The sale on Town Plan earlier this year was $159 now its $150! I might have to cancel the lay-by and put the new one up... only $9 but $9 is like 2 impulse's or 1x 7236 Also I didn't go to Dj's today 'cos my mum lost my card...

I Scream Clone Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 how does layby work? Just grab what you want, take it to the layby counter and they will get a deposit (5-10% i think) and then you get a 1-3 months to pay the rest off. They obv keep the stock in the shop till you have paid it off. You will receive a docket which you can take to any checkout in the shop and make payments when you like.

And you only pay something from $5-$10 normally for them to hold it for you. and if you cancel can you get your deposit back? Yes most if not all shops let you, I suspect a large retailer as MYER would.

Whittleberry Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Also, Myer at Chadstone has a Town Plan which is in a box which has a dent in it, and they're offering an extra 5% off because of that. So I dunno if thats 30% off or 5% off the 25% off price, but its still a small saving.
Svelte Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 and if you cancel can you get your deposit back? you get everything back except for the lay-by fee, unless you don't pay at all and they cancel it for you! layby is great, it's good at sale time if, like me, you're like a dazed deer in the discount headlights and there's too many shiny boxes with $$$ off and you're not sure what you actually want (or can afford). in the end, if you decide to cancel something, you're only losing a small amount. the mid-year sales usually have a promotion where you can layby until Xmas rather than the 12 week period, so those wanting to pay off that 10179 Millennium Falcon can do it in lumps rather than all at once. indeed, i wouldn't be surprised if a few big ticket items such as the Falcon reappear on store shelves after Xmas from people who've changed their mind or have fallen behind in the lay-by payments. this sometimes explains the sudden reapparance and/or battered condition of the larger UCS sets at DJs/ Myers as they may have been through the sale/ layby/ return mill a few times
Darth_Legois Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Well im definatly goin' to DJ's Garden City....I'll post later with my findings & what I bought ect... Heres hopin' plenty of 25% Off LEGO left....

I saw another Death Star II at that same Myer about a year ago, then it disappeared. So it was nice to see that it was back!
Darth_Legois Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 (edited) First of all I'd just like say something to HB... [insert Nelson voice from simpsons] HA-HA!! [Voice/] And do you know why HB? Because....At Garden City.....I found a TROLL IMPULSE! And I bought one. And that other little castle set with the cannon and 2 knights and that undead horse & The latest train station [$44 on sale at DJ's w00t ] I might post pics for proof later..... Also I would make you sig-fig to whack but im lacking capes so maybe next time.. Also I dont even like the Impulse.....I might not even open it. Edited December 10, 2008 by Darth_Legois
natelite Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 you get everything back except for the lay-by fee, unless you don't pay at all and they cancel it for you! how much is the fee and how does that work? was just wondering if layby is just credit...and you incur an interest per month if you didn't pay for it in full. edit: i got the town plan but i want to curse whoever bought out all those harley quinn sets from myers! damn you!!! i ended up buying one for inflated price of $55 from TRU because i didn't want to miss out on the mf. oh, and no hoth base left either when i got to tru. cursed!!!!!!
Darth_Legois Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 like me, you're like a dazed deer in the discount headlights and there's too many shiny boxes with $$$ off and you're not sure what you actually want (or can afford) I feel like this Since I just went and bought the Post Car & Plane for $17 in total at MYER since it was on sale Probable spent like $80 today I think... *Sigh* This is what happens when I go to the shops with a card full of $$ how much is the fee and how does that work? was just wondering if layby is just credit...and you incur an interest per month if you didn't pay for it in full. edit: i got the town plan but i want to curse whoever bought out all those harley quinn sets from myers! damn you!!! i ended up buying one for inflated price of $55 from TRU because i didn't want to miss out on the mf. oh, and no hoth base left either when i got to tru. cursed!!!!!! Lay-By fee? Most stores have the price anywhere from $3-$10 Depending on the store. There where no Town Plan's at my myer but the TRU Garden City had heaps of 7666
Svelte Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 how much is the fee and how does that work? was just wondering if layby is just credit...and you incur an interest per month if you didn't pay for it in full. The fee depends on the store - $3 K-Mart, $5 Myer, $10 DJs It is NOT like credit - you do not incur interest. I think the layby model actually pre-dates credit cards! The fee is just an admin one. The idea is that you put a deposit, and then over a 10 or 12 week period make regular fortnightly payments until you have finished off the balance - then you can pick the goods up. If you change your mind within that period you can cancel and they will refund your payments in full minus the layby admin fee.
