emilyjem Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 The Toys R Us Lego vs Duplo is certainly confusing, especially if you look at Lasoo (the online catalogue place that Toys R Us uses). There they provide a text description of catalogue items and it definitely says "All LEGO or Duplo". See here. Very tricky of TRU.
jonwil Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 If TRU are using text or images that imply that its LEGO and not just Duplo, that sounds to me like false and misleading advertising. Which is illegal in Australia.
Strand Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Was at the Sydney Aquarium today and noticed they have a little Lego Store which I don't remember there being before. It seems so to be there only for the Lego event but it has an interesting selection, most of the lines, they have a lot of Lego Books (including 'The Lego Book' and the DK Star Wars one and a couple others). I noticed some 2x4 Brick USB things too. Might be interesting to pop in during the exhibit if you have kids, though the prices mostly seem to be exactly RRP.
AussieJimbo Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) Picked up a couple of 3180 Octan tanker for 20% off at DJ's today. Also saw a note that the $139.95 price listed in their recent catalog and on in-store signs for the PF Cargo Train was a misprint and that the real price is $239.95. Good luck if you scored one at the low price. Edited December 19, 2010 by AussieJimbo
BrettBrick Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Apparently the aquarium, wild life park and centerpoint skywalk have been purchased by the legoland business. Hopefully Sydney can get the first Lego shop in Australia. I don't think we could support a legoland unless they put it up at the gold coast with the other theme parks.
AussieJimbo Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Hopefully Sydney can get the first Lego shop in Australia. That would be awesome. Would that mean good supply of basically all current sets?

So does that also mean a Legoland theme park for Sydney ? (It would give my son a reason to travel to Sydney apart from the zoo. Keep on looking into things ! P.S. that D.J.'s cargo train price 139 bucks was a misprint in the catalogue.

Speaking of which, if anyone in Sydney is going to the Breakfast thing to celebrate the opening of the exhibit, could they post a pic of the exclusive minifig(s)?
lightningtiger Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 The Wildlife world is getting a new LEGO exhibit. Ah, yes the place next door too has Lego models in it....seen the advert on Cartoon Network I think.....basically giant minifigs and a huge brickbuilt shark ! So yes, anyone in Sydney....be nice to see what they have on display......keep on looking !

I can't really see it being successful at the Gold Coast. Everything there is catered toward the Japanese Tourists and I don't think they will be into Lego that much (When compared to shopping and action theme parks). Although it would be great for me as the gold coast is only 2.5 hrs away :P I would also expect that it would be open year round. Summer though might be a bit dicey. The severe thunderstorms would not be good for the displays. Still a Lego store in any state would be a good thing.

slopemodified Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Just had a look at TRU's stocktake catalogue for after Xmas - nothing on Lego at all...

The severe thunderstorms would not be good for the displays. Still a Lego store in any state would be a good thing. Have you ever been to a Legoland? They ARE Action Theme Parks. Roller coaster, other cool rides, the whole works! But with one opening in Malaysia in 2013, I think that any tourist from countries closer to there would go there unless they were specifically coming here for other reasons. Also, Legoland Theme Parks all over Europe have severe weather conditions also. Snow and such. I do not think that the weather in Australia would really be a factor in whether or not to build one here. I went into a few stores today and nowhere in my town has ANY HP sets left! And so close to Christmas. Has everywhere under catered?
dotmike Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Just had a look at TRU's stocktake catalogue for after Xmas - nothing on Lego at all... I think TRU gets away with its ripoff behaviour simply by being the one-stop shop for toys for people too lazy to shop around. Apart from the occasional good clearance price (eg, half price on the 7642 Garage) they don't seem to care about being competitive. The interesting stocktake will be what Myer and DJs department stores do with their 10197 Fire Stations... Having checked out many parts of Sydney city and eastern suburbs over the last few days, the shelves are bursting with these things. David Jones in the city had about half a dozen Grand Emporiums, but at least 5 times as many of the previous modular set, and I doubt they'll be selling many. Myer too had tons of them not moving at their $249 catalogue price (down from $299). At some point they're going have to do something to move this stock. Hopefully something drastic!

Been hanging for a cheap one of these since Big W cleared theirs for a similar price.
distortme Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Myer have buy 2 get 1 free on toys until 24/12 again. At least in Adelaide!

Myer Sydney have the same deal, so I am guessing it would be Australia wide. It only seems to be on full priced items though. Try your luck and see if you can get it on the catalog items too! Matt
Hemish Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 spoke to the ladies at the local toyworld today about series 3, she said end of this year, I says what next week and she just grinned, get ready for them to start showing up
Izzy Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Oh that is weird! I asked my local yesterday and she said sometime in January! I do hope that they come earlier!
Anonymous Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 if anyone sees some LEGO Sort & Store around Brisbane please post where, thanks. Went to a few Big W's today to be told they sold out already :(

I really wouldn't be too shocked to see this more than 50% off their RRP at the aforementioned department stores - you're spot on they are overstocked to the hilt, and no one is buying them. Even though I own one, a second one at something like $130 would be great for parts. I wonder what next year's modular building will be, perhaps a Police station or Health Club or an Office building ???
darkhorse Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 I really wouldn't be too shocked to see this more than 50% off their RRP at the aforementioned department stores - you're spot on they are overstocked to the hilt, and no one is buying them. Even though I own one, a second one at something like $130 would be great for parts. I was thinking similar thoughts earlier, when I noticed there was a bucketload of Fire Stations while the G.E.s were not so much walking out the door as overtaking Usain Bolt... They may get cleared post-Christmas, or they may hang around until the next mid-year sale when management needs to clear stock and balance the books. They were something like $220 in the mid-year sale this year, with another 10% off at random times for cardholders. I figure a good number of those that wanted them got them then, not knowing if it would come back in stock later. So it's going to take a serious discount to motivate people to pick up extras. And the most I've seen off Lego at either is 33% via the 3 for 2 offers. I wonder what next year's modular building will be, perhaps a Police station or Health Club or an Office building ??? There's another thread on here speculating Post Office, and I've seen a suggestion elsewhere for a bank. Of the two, I'd think the bank would have more "cool stuff" that you could put in it. And the minifigs from previous sets need somewhere to get money to spend at the Green Grocer and the Emporium, right? My bid? A modular frontage for a train station, only because it would save me trying to come up with one myself. I don't think this will happen as the modular size is too small, unless they did a "double modular". You could put some offices on the upper levels of the train station too (I've been thinking about this one a bit). Another one - library. It would fit the modular size, you could do multi-storey easily with different sections (shelves, study areas, multimedia, etc) on different levels. A similar thing could be done for a museum. Left field - another apartment block with a laundromat on the ground floor. Similar to how the GG is done. Minifigs need to live somewhere, right?
