Well in our area Impulses are only sold at Kmart and specialty toy shops, so as far as im concerned they are a special purchase for our 2 Big W's, and I will be snapping some up.

For all newcomers etc who aren't familiar with Aussie sales, checkout lasoo.com.au and search for 'lego' this will show any current or shortly arriving sales catalogues from Target, Myer, Kmart, Big W etc. Though it wont show DJ's there as they don't give out their catalogues unless you get it by email from them.

Cheers :classic:

duh.... seeing as how i alerted you to the sale, of course i know. :sadnew:

DJ and myers seldom announce their sale through catalogs. the sale last week by both were announced through newspaper and tv ads...and in stores. not through catalogs. i was wondering if there's another one before boxing day since it's much harder with these two stores to find out about sales. which is exactly why DJ still has a bunch of dwarves mines while target and kmart sell theirs out within the first 2 days of sale.

we gotta keep everyone in the know about these aussie sales! :classic: that way we can clean out the best ones! cool?

LOL! I know thats why I was thinking "WTH?!":tongue:

Yea ok!

Im still not sure what to get - CG Chopper vs Turbo Car Chase... $38 vs $60 ...I guess the Agents just came out about 2 months ago here? They should be around while right? Till say...this time next year?:look: , But the CG's chopper been out longer so It might not be around as long...Im leaning towards the chopper. :sceptic:

Go the Turbochase - woo! Lots of metallic silver parts and the Spyclops chopper is a way cooler helicopter than the CG one too. But then, I thought CG was a really weak line. Also, as you pointed out, no large Agents set in next year's catalogue probably means restocks are limited.

Speaking of the catalogue... I finally got mine yesterday and it looks like things to stock up on during the sales from 08 that won't be around for too long are:

- Creator Beach House

- All Indy 08 sets (if you still can find 'em)

- SW first half of 08 sets

- City Mail Van

- CG platform and the large Unimog

- Castle Dwarves Mine and Dwarves Mine Defender

(This doesn't include Technic and Bionicle sets as my knowledge is limited :classic: )

It's interesting that Belville will still be around although no new sets are planned for 09.

Looks like Lego has reduced their product life cycle for many things - it used to be two years but for some sets it's now around 6 months. Maybe they're producing more variety but less of each individual production run.

kmart having sw lego sale too: at-te $110, rgs $135. crystal reaper at $55, multi attack hypersonic craft for $85. and lots more. these are not in the catalog. i think it's the final sale b4 christmas and sale may vary from store to store. i strongly suggest you make a trip to find out what you can get. good luck!

target, tru did not differ from the catalog...

yup...and frankly it's pissing me off. i was caught offguard by that. didn't get any indy kocs sets except for peru. same with the last batman run. good thing i was able to snipe a few sets during the last few weeks. still didn't get harley or mr freeze at d/c.

if you look at s@h or observe us tru/target websites, it seems sets last longer in the us. that sucks...they get them sooner and they are on the shelves longer. aussie pays more for sets, more for shipping, only have 2-3 mths on hot sets (like advent calendar) or around 6mths for most, and get them about 6 mths after the rest of the world had their fill.

I saw Jungle Cutter clearanced at K-Mart for $65 yesterday, but it seems clearance items are different at each store. I sold a few extra Indy sets on ebay recently due to space clearing/ raising cash for Xmas presents  and was amazed how quickly they went - Race for the Stolen Treasure went within minutes and I didn't even think it was that popular a set. Obviously there's still demand out there.

As for product life... I feel sorry for the little kids wandering around looking for things like the King's Castle Siege who can't find them anywhere. I understand parents are reluctant to shell out for big ticket items until they need to, but it probably doesn't help that Lego prints an image of 7094 on everything from the smallest Impulse set to the whole front of the Advent Calendar .

I guess stores are happier as product doesn't sit on their shelves for too long and new items are always coming in.

I've read on other toy websites that David Jones warehouses differently which is why they seem to have more consistent stock. They often hold back their stock until their special sales start (eg Volkswagen, Green Grocer) rather than putting it on shelves early (eg all the 2007 Exo-Force sets I saw around Myer a month before their most recent sale started). That's probably why they have a more even spread of City stuff as well when everyone else seems to sell out.

Starting to lean back to the Turbo Car! Especially since its not in the '09 catalog!:cry_sad:

But I still want a V-19 but Its still in the catalog so I wont be rushing to get it.

And I got the post car on sale so meh, Nothing else there to worry about really. :sceptic:

But $60...After All I've spent in the last few months..But I guess I buy all my sets not at this time of year, Im pretty much broke [Well I could afford a Turbo Car but I also made a $27 USD BL Order.] Well I guess I can just save up for next year....But I dont know...Still not sold on the Idea of spending another $60, Even though I know I will get it but maybe when I get it, It wont be on sale so yea..... :sceptic::hmpf_bad:

I know! But im suprised I got a AT-AT at the end of this year! But yea it sucks how stuff isn't on the shelves long enough! :cry_sad::thumbdown:

I know...Posible one of the worst countries for LEGO! :cry_sad:

But we do get the odd exclusive now and again but still...it sucks. :hmpf_bad:

I know lol the Kings Castle, Man I havn't seen it in AGES!

Well, That explains why DJ's is one of my favourites now days since product life is lower :sweet: But their lack of LEGO sales is disturbing :vader:

Has any one seen the Mr freeze chase anywhere? I cant seem to find it :cry_sad:

Also I think I should get two more radiaks before they go forever and maybe get a krika (they are the only ones I like  ) Also I think I should get a couple more of those new impulses but I think they'll be here for a while because they just got here :sceptic:

Mr Freeze is gone, probably forever :sadnew: Krika is cool though. I rarely buy Bionicle but the bloody bone parts are too good to pass up.

Has anyone seen Good Wizard anywhere? Im after at least three if someone wants to ship them to me. No biggy either way, but I checked 6 shops today and it isn't in the new wave of impulses in BigW, and our 3 Kmarts sold out.

Also has anyone seen 7662 MTT on clearance anywhere. I would love to snap some brown bricks up cheap

Natelite, there are no Lego extra discounts from DJs at moment, as there catalogues run up to christmas eve, will let you know if it changes

Damn really :cry_sad::cry_sad::hmpf_bad: I should have got one when I had the chance, but for some reason I kept putting it off :sceptic: Well if anyone see's it please tell me!!!! :sadnew:

Yea Krika is kool! The only good ones IMO are radiak  Vamprah and now I just need Krika! I only like the ones with all legs. So then I don't have to use them for Bionicle. I can use them as random monsters lol :thumbup:

only kmart has the good wizard sets. the other shops have the second impulse wave. if your kmart stores sold out then i guess tough luck.

7662 is now only available from S@H. myers and DJ carried them up until the 25% sale, and were sold out.

I have seen a stock pile at TRU, so maybe they will be slashed post x-mas

I saw one this week in Bondi Junction so they are still around.

I will keep an eye out for Good Wizards. I know ye need to trade 'em for Pirate impulse sets

Thank ye! I shall never call ye a scurvy knave.

As for the 7662, maybe a trip to Sydney one day wouldn't be such a bad thing. Any area you recommend svelte? Central, Southern etc?

TRU? well the tru near my area is sold out of MTT. i managed to get 2 from DJ during the 25% off sale. bondi junction you say? hmmm, might try that on 27th!!! wheeeeee

Actually, it was Big W at Pagewood that I saw the MTT at. It was only yesterday! My minds a blur with all these sales but i made the trek yesterday to finalise a layby from the July sales and saw it when I checked the Lego aisle then  no discount on it though. there was only a couple though.

I Scream Clone, I live in the East so I mainly know that area and the City. However I've learned over the years to triangulate my Lego hunting between 3 zones

Bondi Junction - has DJs, Myer, K-Mart and Target, but they don't usually have the full range of the bigger stores

The City is good if there's a sale as it has the flagship DJs and Myer, and there's also Hobbyco in the QVB which sometimes has clearanced stuff cheapity cheap

Chatswood is very good too as it has TRU, DJs, Myer, and a well-stocked K-Mart and Target - in fact it is probably the best place to start.

If you're driving Westfield Eastgardens has a Big W as well as the other chains and there is another TRU at Moore Park - they're kind of a pain to get to via public transport though.

ack...no, don't send him my/your way. wow...svelte is very rich...living in the east among lawyers and bankers!

the chatswood stores are actually smaller than the city stores. as an example, city myers still have tons of 7676 rgs while chatswood myers has only 2 v19. lol.

i would strongly advise that you do your search in castle hill! the malls there are much larger and the stores are much larger and better stocked.

Posted

Thats a great wrap up of the stores svelte_corps and natelite, thanks heaps

Dont worry about Chatswood and Castle Hill, as thats a fair trek for me to make just to be dissapointed :hmpf_bad: if they didn't have anything.

I made the trek to Miranda Fair, after christmas last year looking for Castle Siege and was very dissapointed by the amount of stock they had at all the chains.

You two must spend a little more than I do on Lego LOL, No kids or Mortgage yet?

How did you guess  ? Actually, living in Sydney I'm more likely to build a house out of Lego than afford to buy at the moment. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment so space is at a premium too - one day I'll have to move way out just to store all the Lego :classic:

I have probably spent more in the last year on Lego than in any of the previous years combined since I came out of my dark ages. Seriously, we are in the middle of a golden age and I'm stocking up while I can! When I first started getting back into Lego in 03 & 04 there was barely anything that interested me. I was never a huge Star Wars head, the only way you could get Castle stuff was via Harry Potter sets, and City was still Jack Stone type sets. I was always more interested in buildings and houses, but you were hard pressed to even get a few door and window parts in anything on store shelves. It was only the Azkaban range of HP that started building up my collection and the launch of the first new red/ white Creator house at the end of 04 really marked the start of the revolution in terms of Lego's new approach to set size and parts. In 2006 City started improving and in 2007 with Cafe Corner and the launch of new S@H exclusives really targeted to AFOLs that Lego has soared. Really, if you need proof, check out the Lego Collector's Guide if you haven't already got a copy. It's interesting to see just how bad things did get and how lucky we now are

natelite, I agree about DJs and Myer but the Target and K-Mart are always really well stocked compared to any other one I've seen in Sydney - lots of Targets around here just seem to have a shelf or two of stuff and it's never the good oil (or plastic as the case may be).
