Yes, Big W does sometimes have quite good "everyday" prices on LEGO sets, with another example being 7985 City of Atlantis. Big W's regular price on this is $96, which is approximately 20% off the RRP of $119.99 as you'd find at times of non-discounting Target, Myer, David Jones, Kmart.

I bought a number of these sets (for the Greek column pieces - I built a Parthenon!), and was actually waiting for the inevitable sales at one of the latter retailers. As it turned out, I could have just walked into Big W at any time.

So, for selected sets, Big W does have some keen prices. For other sets they're just a few bucks off retail.

But these days, it's probably worth assuming that, importing aside, you should just be patient for a few weeks until a sale, since it doesn't seem you have to wait long for one of the discounting retailers - Target, Myer, David Jones - to have a 20% off sale of some kind (and Myer is my current favourite, with its 20% toy catalogue items + 10% extra Myer One card this weekend: 5766 Log Cabin for $36).

Probably an indication that LEGO IS DAMN OVERPRICED IN AUSTRALIA and that more and more people are realising that if you pay full RRP you are an impatient idiot! (Guily as charged for the series 4 minifigs at Myer this morning, sigh.)

I have noticed that for large sets Big W can sometimes be good but for smaller sets, they usually have them at RRP or maybe tiny discount (not the 10-20% they can have on large sets)

Maybe I should go hunting on Monday and see if I can find a Target with Minifigures S4 at 20% off. The only issue is if I find some but then Target says "sorry, we arent supposed to sell those yet" :(

Back to Target (Canberra City this time) to pick up the series 4 minifigures I missed before (success!). 1 full box of S4, 2 boxes of S3 in stock.

Also scored an empty S4 retail box, just missing the Series 1 box now, wish I'd thought to pick these up from the start. Might have to pick one up on Bricklink unless anyone here has a spare one they want to give/swap/sell.

No minifigs at my local Target, Myer still had boxes of series 3 but the local bookshop that stocks Lego had nearly 2 boxes of series 4, $3.99 each. Dots are quite difficult to locate this time around, but I found a Viking (or 3) and gave him a new home.

Yeah the dots can be really tough, some are clear but some are anyone's guess.

Luckily I was searching with a fellow customer so he could share my cheat sheet. He was good at feeling them through the packets and helped me find the gnome and the viking whilst I found a few he was after.

Thank you, whoever you were.

Big W is now selling the 8070 Supercar. S@H lists it at AUD$199 but Big W had it listed at $178 (not on special), which I gladly paid.

Target have it (at least at Helensvale, QLD) included in their 20% off sale... which drops the price to around$159. (Sorry, Brix!)

I have a sealed S1 box coming my way, hopefully sometime this week. Assuming the box is in good condition you are welcome to have it! Minus the figs of course

Hi All

For anyone in Perth, is there any chance of getting any of the Pirate sets on store shelves?

Someone posted the Imperial Flagship was spotted at Myer Cannignton, I'll likely pick that up if the price isn't too ridiculous.

But I was really after Brickbeards Bounty.

I was hoping I could get one off the shelf, before resorting to eBay or some other online option.

Nice price! None of my local stores - Target, K-mart - carry larger Technic sets anymore. In fact, that Big W (Garden City) was the only store I've seen for some time that does.

That would be awesome. I'll send you a PM.

Thanks very much.

My local ToyWorld still has Brickbeards Bounty for $140. Might pay to check out your local, especially if they have any % off sales coming up.

Ended up picking up a SW Emperor's Shuttle for $46ish from Target, decent return from the $110 RRP. Obviously had a bit of a run this week though, most of the Toy Story stuff was gone, along with the Turbo Tanks though one Slave One remained.

My Diagon Alleys should arrive tomorrow. I unboxed them to save on postage and I am offering one up at exactly what it cost me, $199. Shipping shouldn't be too expensive due to the lack of Lego box. If anyone is interested PM me, otherwise its heading for fleabay....

Has anyone ordered from Amazon.co.uk recently? I see they have a Free shipping offer to Oz and NZ, is it good for Lego?

AFAIK Amazon don't ship Lego directly here from either the .com or the .uk site :(

Would love to be proved wrong on that though!!

Nice as it would be, I suspect not.

Here's the problem, from the shipping page:

PC & Video Games, Toys & Games and Software items and accessories

* United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Republic of), Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Note: third-party sellers on Amazon.co.uk may specify their own delivery destinations. See International Delivery on Marketplace Orders for more information.

So... Unless there's a loophole somewhere, free shipping won't happen. As Ang11 stated, Amazon.com/.co.uk won't do it directly, and third party doesn't qualify for free shipping. The exception might be the Lego books.

Just tested with three Brickmaster books, and free shipping shows as an option.

I can also confirm that they ship Brickmaster for free - just ordered the SW book to ship to Australia.

TheHut.com are UK based, and they offer free shipping on Lego too. I picked up the motorbike #8051 and it came to AUD$39.43, which is half the RRP in Australia. Unfortunately they don't have a large range, and may not be as price competitive on other sets.

I recently placed an order with TheHut.com too (currently KSTART15 coupon is giving 15% off toys). Zavvi.com is its sister site, depending on which coupon codes each one has available at the time both are a viable option with free shipping. Also dvd.co.uk removes VAT but charges shipping, each set is different in regards to shipping, some sets the shipping is only 1.99 GBP but sometimes its exhorbitant. But as Brix says, range isn't the greatest!

Went to my local Toy World today. I was after about 4 Hazmat Guys. Went trough both boxes they had and picked out a few that appeared to have the right dots. Only one was the hazmat guy...

Now I have 2 zombies and a painter that I don't actually want.

Still, the staff were quite accommodating. If they see some, they will put a few aside for me. I will head back later in the week and try again.

Also saw the Technic Supercar for RRP

I was happy to see series four at my local Target, and I got ten for $4 each. I didn't rely much on the dots, it was basically just a blind pick with occasional checking to make sure I didn't get duplicates.

I got two hockey players and two painters, though. I also didn't get the hazmat guy or any of the more special ones, unfortunately.

Still, got the space shuttle. At least it's not a Big W exclusive. :classic:

Made a lot of calls, but no Brickbeards Bounty's to be had in Perth it seems.

Missed one set by 5 weeks, damn it!

The Imperial Flagship is sitting on a few shelves at Myers.

Any opinions on whether I can do better than the $279 they're asking for?

I'm thinking of waiting for a sale, but with my luck they'll be gone by then...

The best you can hope for is to wait for a 20% off sale and then hope they give an additional 10% off to Myer One card holders - that should get it down to a nudge over $200.

If you really want Bickbeard's Bounty it's readily available off Ebay - and at less than the Australian RRP including delivery:

I hope this isn't inappropriate, but over on Whirlpool, user Jad308 just posted the following:

The Hut .. thehut.com .. have added some new Lego to the site. The 15% off KSTART15 coupon still works for toys and they still have free international shipping. Standouts so far from a quick skim:

8043 – Lego Technic Motorized Excavator – Approx AUD$189

http://www.thehut.com/10421942.html

8069 – Lego Technic Backhoe Loader – Approx AUD$67

http://www.thehut.com/10349670.html

8052 – Lego Technic Container Truck – Approx AUD$59

http://www.thehut.com/10406433.html

I picked up the Excavator at this nice price.

Thanks for the tip TeufelHund.

I forgot the Myer One discount; 10% should bring it to $250 which isn't too bad.

I was hesitant to use ebay, boxes tend to get knocked about in transit and I'd like it to be in as good a condition as possible.

With the Imperial and Brickbeard, along with the two POTC ships; its going to be an expensive start to this Lego business lol.
