TheDarkness Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 My Slave One sets arrived from Catchoftheday and and feared damaged boxes when I saw how they were packed. However, thankfully all were fine. Bit disappointed they couldn't throw in an airbag or two just to fill out the box. Still, their packaging is superior to Barnes and Noble's rubbish

I recently received Lego from BigW in the same way, plastic bag the only protection, very very annoying!
TeufelHund Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 (edited) I forgot the Myer One discount; 10% should bring it to $250 which isn't too bad. I was hesitant to use ebay, boxes tend to get knocked about in transit and I'd like it to be in as good a condition as possible. They don't usually give you 10% off - it's just sometimes they'll offer an *additional* 10% off to Myer One members on stuff already on sale. Also - if you're worried about Ebay sellers then check their satisfaction ratings - if someone's sold a ton of stuff and have a 100% satisfaction rating or close to it, chances are things are being packed ok. I've bought tons of Lego off Ebay without a hitch. Edited April 13, 2011 by TeufelHund
distortme Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Adelaide CBD update Myer have series 4 still 20% off there until tomorrow. They also have the smaller space sets. Target have series 4 with 20% off still until tomorrow TRU have series 4 at $3.99 unlike the shops above at $4.99 RRP. So come Thursday, amazingly TRU is the place to go!
Graymice Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Just had a quick check and didn't see any posts re Canberra. (Apologies if there were and I missed) Series 4 is around at Target in Tuggeranong at 20% off for anybody looking for them in the ACT - they still have a large selection of Series 3 there as well.

I did order 3 of them, though if they send some in bags it definitely something to keep an eye on for any future purchases!
AussieJimbo Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 (edited) Still, their packaging is superior to Barnes and Noble's rubbish That wasn't my experience. There was nothing wrong with my B&N order in January, well packed in boxes with airbags. Arrived in 5 days with express shipping (which was only about $20-25 more than the cheapest shipping) :classic: Edited April 12, 2011 by AussieJimbo

Arrived in 5 days with express shipping (which was only about $20-25 more than the cheapest shipping) :classic: I think you are spot on there, it is not as much the way B&N pack, as the method of postage used. I have had many orders from B&N and all have been well packed, with plenty of airbags and still arrived damaged 90% of the time....why? Because I choose the cheapest shipping option, which takes a month to get to me. Any package that bounces around the postal system for a month is highly likely to get damaged regardless of the packing technique. Its worth noting that some of my damaged boxes have actually had things pierce the outer cardboard box....I wonder what sort of treatment these packages get! Lucky I am not too fussed about MISB otherwise I would be very disappointed. Still when you pay good money for something its really not good enough when it turns up crushed.
AussieJimbo Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I think that's the size of it ang911. I certainly sympathise with goods turning up damaged, I'd be unimpressed too. Just wanted to balance the assessment of B&N given my positive experience. :classic:

Was only in a paper type bag, no support whatsoever and the box was crushed. I was 50/50 on whether or not I was keeping the set for myself or not, but it got taken out of my hands. I never got a response on my complaint email, so won't bother with them again regardless of pricing.
Friction Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Target at Capalaba, QLD has one box of Series 3 left and a whole display of Series 4 available at the moment and they are selling them with the 20% sale.
jonwil Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 If you want Minifigures S4, Target Morley has about 10 boxes or so. (plus a couple boxes of S3). Both are on sale at 20% off. MYER Morley has both S3 and S4 but no discount. Target Whitfords has about 1&1/2 to 2 boxes full of S4 but the chances of getting the ones you want would be less (they have been picked over for the good stuff already) Do check with the target store you intend to visit to ensure they have stock though as some stores I called (Inaloo, Perth CBD and I think Carousel said that they didnt have any in stock at the time I called) I now have all the S4 I want plus I picked up a S3 Sumo Wrestler to get the bronze trophy (the hair and head may also be usefull :) Nothing else of note spotted at Morley (TRU, Target, K-Mart or MYER) or Whitfords (Target or K-Mart) Still no sign of the K-Mart exclusive bank robbery set :(
JasonV Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Went to Myers today to have a look at the Imperial Flagship. They had three in stock and every single one had a damaged box. One had quite a large hole right through the front. WTF? That is a three hundred dollar product sitting on the shelf and they can't even keep it in reasonable condition? Sigh What a disappointment. If it was in mint condition I don't think I could have resisted...

JasonV Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 (edited) I'll take a mint condition product over the discount. Just a bit of let down after running all around the metro area I suppose its been sitting on the shelf for over a year and things get knocked about. When the POTC hits I'll be sure to snag them early. Edited April 12, 2011 by JasonV

I feel like such a bad Lego collector for not caring about the boxes, except when I am reselling....I have no idea where I would keep all the boxes anyway! I am currently looking into importing more sets from the US minus boxes and assuming everything from inside the box arrives sealed it doesn't bother me at all....am i alone in this? Does everyone here hold onto the boxes?
JasonV Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 No such things as a bad collector! I'm not even going to open mine. It will sit, relic like on my shelf, a tribute to simpler, happier times...
lostdriveway Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I have boxes at the moment but don't plan on keeping them. Taking up too much space. Are only certin Myer stores doing the 20%off Lego? I picked up a couple of series 4 minifigs ( hockey player and soccer player) and a straight track pack the other day from my local but if I can get 20% off I'll get more...

JasonV Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Clone-Trooper, I suspect the Imperial Flahship I saw was opened and re-sealed. The sides were tapped using ordinary sticky tape. Are properly sealed Lego sets sealed in this way? Thanks mate.

Are properly sealed Lego sets sealed in this way? Thanks mate. I haven't once seen a Lego box with ordinary sticky tape holding the sides together. If the set is heavilly discounted due to the damage, it may be worth a risk, but I would be highly suspicious that someone has raided it for parts already. I have heard of people in the past getting damaged boxes that has been opened, but also people getting them very cheaply and being able to complete the set anyway. Depends if you want to take the risk I guess
Clone-Trooper Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I suspect the Imperial Flahship I saw was opened and re-sealed. The sides were tapped using ordinary sticky tape. Are properly sealed Lego sets sealed in this way? Hey JasonV, Lego seal their boxes two different ways, the smaller sets are always sealed with a tough glue, in order to stop those little fingers being able to 'easily' rip apart a box and steal the contents. The second way which is primarily for larger sets (like the Imperial Flagship) which is with a thick plastic seal. The seal is strong and sturdy, very good at holding a box closed, but sometimes these fail and stores resort to sealing them with normal tacky tap. Lego never use normal sticky tape though! The best indication usually if the box has been opened is if the side cardboard flaps would also have been broken/ripped as it's very evident that someone has opened the box fully. Doesn't mean that a hand hasn't gone in and taken out a few packets though. Either way, when I see normal large or small sticky tape used I stay away, Lego has to be very heavily discounted for me to take the gamble that all piece's/bags are still in the box, you never know, the manual may also be missing? Just to risky for my apatite. For a taped box, I'd rather want a great discount then the normal or prefer to wait for a decent sealed box!!! Hope some of what I've written has helped.
JasonV Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Thanks Clone-Trooper, much appreciated There was definitely no plastic seal, it was sticky tape. Even the large Kingdom set was sealed in exactly the same way. For the less savy Lego consumers out there: take a good look at those boxes! If I didn't check with you guys I might have bit the bullet... and ended up with half an Imperial Flagship lol.
