dotmike Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I have boxes at the moment but don't plan on keeping them. Taking up too much space. If you cut the clear tape from both ends of the larger boxes, and carefully separate the glue from the flaps of the smaller boxes (ie, don't use the illustrated "thumb holes" to rip open the cardboard when you get a set), then you can make a box go flat pretty much undamaged. It can then be stored flat with many other boxes, perhaps under a bed, or up on a (large) out of the way shelf, on top of a cupboard, etc. When reconstituted by reversing the process, it will stay pretty close to the original. If you have children, then I can imagine in 30 years time they would be absolutely thrilled that the original boxes had been kept, along the lines of the emotional connection described in this article. Are only certin Myer stores doing the 20%off Lego? It sounds like it, as I paid top dollar (4.95) at Myer Sydney CBD for my minifigs at the weekend, but from accounts here it seems a lot of other Myers had them discounted. Only the catalogue items were discounted.
lostdriveway Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 K-Mart Pacific Fair have the Bank and Money Transfer in stock for $89. Also, Myer Pacific Fair have the train straight and flexi packs for $25.... about 3 boxes left... unless I decide to pick up some more! :)
Cadder Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) Series 4 figs are now fairly prevalent in SE Qld... Over the last couple of days, I've discovered bothS3 AND S4 figs in Helensvale (Gold Coast, qld) in both Kmart and Target. Kmart are retailing all theirs at $5, Target have all theirs at $4-, given they've still got 20% off until Thursday. Target had 12 (yes, count them TWELVE) open and near-full boxes of S4s and a couple of S3 boxes. Kmart had 2 of each. In Indooroopilly today, Target, Kmart AND Myer all have boxes of S3 and S4 figs in copious quantities. I even spotted one woman standing in the Lego aisle of Target with a printed dot-code cheat sheet making sure she'd snaffled a full set of S4 figs. She looked a little sheepish when I quietly commented aside to her "It was a lot easier when they had barcodes, eh?" :D Edited April 13, 2011 by Cadder
TheDarkness Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Fishpond have the 7752 SW Count Dooku's Solar Sailor set for $71.97

Meh ! Speaking of Kmart.....space shuttle 39 bucks, police minifig pack 12 buck and 15 dollars buys you the police dog box.....also the Ice Dragon 29 bucks. TRU only has the space centre for 99.99 and again, the space shuttle for 39.99.....what is it with these specials on the space stuff ? Both the TRU and Kmart specials start Thursday (or tonight if you go to the right Kmart's) Brick On Shop On everyone !
shnake Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I feel like such a bad Lego collector for not caring about the boxes, except when I am reselling....I have no idea where I would keep all the boxes anyway! I am currently looking into importing more sets from the US minus boxes and assuming everything from inside the box arrives sealed it doesn't bother me at all....am i alone in this? Does everyone here hold onto the boxes? I used to keep my boxes, but when the stack gets 5 feet high of flattened boxes, you just realise it is a waste of space. I have only kept one box, that is the Eiffel Tower. Not sure why I kept it though.. I cut them up and put them out with recycling now! Matt
ang911 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 If anyone didn't realise the 20% off Lego at Target appears to be continuing for another week! Also if anyone knows any Team Members that work for Coles Group they get double team member discount (goes from 5% to 10%) Thurs-Sun this week, double bonus if you know someone who can lend you their card!
TheDarkness Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Target has 20% off toys this week, so their Lego sale essentially continues, which is good for the bargains they have been putting out
jonwil Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Bah, $89 bucks for the bank robbery? Thats a rip-off :( As for minifigures, when I was in Target looking for the figs I wanted, I was also able to help someone else find the ones they wanted (Geisha and Hazmat guy)
Civic Bossman Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Clone-Trooper, I suspect the Imperial Flahship I saw was opened and re-sealed. The sides were tapped using ordinary sticky tape. Are properly sealed Lego sets sealed in this way? Thanks mate. If that was at Myer Carousel, they were there a few months ago both opened. I took them to the counter asking for discount etc, they simply said "no" - but I was welcome to count out the 1600-odd pieces.
JasonV Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I did ppop into Myers Carousel and the Imperial Flagship was in even worse conditionnthan the ones at Garden City. Amazed at how careless they are with something so expensive.

Graymice Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Has anybody been to the Lego display at Sydney Aquarium? Is there anything unusual or out of the ordinary available for purchase (or freebie :)) there from a Lego point of view? Kind of interested in checking it out, but seems a bit pricey just to check out the Lego (not interested in the Aquarium itself - have been to great aquariums like AQWA many times before).

I think (someone in the trade might be able to confirm) that the LEGO company has a policy where they will accept return of damaged boxes from retailers and replace them. So there's less incentive for the retailer to discount it to clear, as they know they can always get it replaced and sell it for full price. Having said that, a few years back I found a 6212 X-Wing Fighter box with a big gash in it at a Toys R Us. It had a yellow sticker discounting it from $70 to $35, so I bought it, even though I thought maybe someone had poked their fingers in to knick a minifig or a small bag. Turns out it was completely intact, so a bargain was had. However, I haven't seen those yellow "priced to clear" stickers for ages. (Not hanging around TRU might have something to do with it.) While we're on the subject of people in the trade knowing things, does anyone know if the rumoured April 16 release date of the Pirates of the Caribbean series would apply to Australia as well? If so, what do you think the chances are of Target getting them by the 20th to still qualify for 20% off? Although I suppose with the frequent sales floating around the major retailers over the past few months, at least one of them will have a sale on around the time of the Pirates of the Caribbean launch, whether it's April 16 or May 1. craym0nk Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 However, I haven't seen those yellow "priced to clear" stickers for ages. (Not hanging around TRU might have something to do with it.) Yellow stickers are definitely still in use. I found one on a Toy Story 3 Garbage Truck with a heavily damaged and re-taped box. However the set was on sale at the time so the discounted price on the yellow sticker was actually more than the sale price, when I asked at the counter if they would discount it further, they refused, so I didn't buy either.

TRU don't discount like the used to. I've seen a damage box arc170, but the discount was pathetic, like 10% off retail. One of my best purchases was when I wasn't AFOL and I picked up a damaged Arkham Asylum for $15 with a sticker that said missing pieces (none were missing). They do clear stock on occasion but stock is not always available at the TRU, I remember last year they cleared a lot of prince of persia and the older powerminers sets.

All the POTC sets in the dealer catalog which I got at the LEGO Australia AFOL breakfast at the Melbourne toy fair are listed as available in May (except the Black Pearl - October). Some retailers might get them a bit earlier I guess but it would be an outside chance.
Darth Draks Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I spoke to a myer buyer and they said POTC was exclusive to Myers and would be out in 1st of June? Not sure what there on about but thats what they said.
jonwil Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) Maybe the MYER guy was confused and some other theme will be MYER exclusive with a 1st June release. (Pharaoh's Quest is one possibility) If POTC is listed in a dealer catalog, it cant be a store exclusive. Edited April 14, 2011 by jonwil

I'm sure he was wrong, maybe he meant an Exclusive SET, because Myers is getting the Tower Bridge later this year, Pharaohs Quest will most likely be a theme Exclusive to Target for a while, just like World Racers was last year, and then get a wide release closer to Christmas.

It was a she, hopefully she was wrong but she was very adamant that it was there exclusive and it was being released after the movie. I'm hoping she was wrong :) I'm saving my myer vouchers for the tower bridge, awesome set.
Brickus Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 In the LEGO catalog Pirates is supposed to be released in May so I have no idea what she was on about.
distortme Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Anyone got S4 extras for trade/sale yet? I know there's the forum for it but not many Aussies when we all congregate here :) Just after the Street Skater to complete my set. Happy to pay $5 as they're pretty readily available at $4 in the pack - unless this is some super-rare one. I have a few spares (a few S3s too) if you're looking for some. And while on topic - any S1 or S2 sets floating around.....? I'll try the other forum if this is shied upon.
