Well I caved in and bought the Turbo Car Chase for $60

One of the main reasons was, Its not in the '09 catalog, $60 [$30 Off] & posible the main reason was there were NO CG Choppers at BigW!!

Infact there weren't any the afternoon the sale started and not much of anything else that was on sale! :hmpf_bad::wacko:

Ahh well this will probable be my last LEGO Set for awhile, Need to start saving up again.

Also there were no Turbo Car's in the LEGO Aisle most of the stuff on sale where on a table with other stuff that was on sale.

Now I need to go build my Turbo car then back to work at my EB Christmas MOC which hopefully, Will be done by the 24th. :sceptic:

To be honest I have very low expectations for boxing day sales just because the sales before xmas have been unprecendented in their range and level of discount. There isn't a lot of lego left on the shelves at many places. Maybe a few stores have a few things put aside specifically for the sales but don't hold your breath, they may be just waiting for next year's lines to come out.

That was certainly the story in Sydney last year - there were no discounts anywhere apart from a few Exo-Force sets at Big W and the rest of the stores were pretty bare.

I had a look around today and K-Mart and Target were pretty much empty. K-Mart had the 7644 MX81 Hypersonic whatsit down to $85 - an unadvertised sale? - and a few other large Technic sets at the same price point but there wasn't much else left.

DJs and Myer were OK, but Myer's inconsistent signage probably means a lot of people don't realise sales are still ongoing! DJs had heaps of VWs and Cafe Corners but I don't really expect increased discounts after Xmas - they didn't do it last year.

And the new stuff usually arrives at the end of the first week of Jan so it's just a waiting game till then anyway!

I agree, Atleast the last few years theres been what nothing at boxing day sales?

I will just wait till June/July or nearest sale to start buying LEGO again... :sceptic:

All the Myers and DJs I've been in recently have virtually no LEGO at all. Non-LEGO products are starting to invade the ares where LEGO usually is. Is this what it was like last year? I can't recall it being like this. Boxing day sales won't be anything exciting, unless a Falcon or other laybyed item appears back on the shelf in Kmart or somewhere and is then discounted. So now it's a waiting game until next year's sets show up! Hopefully there will be a sale soon too, although I'm not expecting one for a while.

Anyway, I have two theories about next year (please add your opinions too):

1: Mid year sales won't be as great as this year, because there is hardly any of this year's stock still around that they need to get rid of. Of course there's always a chance that some huge set could turn up like the Falcon did this year.

2: They'll order more stock in next year, especially near Christmas. They'd be crazy not to, I mean surely they haven't profited as much as they could have this year from LEGO, seeing as they're all out of LEGO at this time of the year? LEGO seems to be more popular than they thought. This could also mean that we get a greater variety of sets next year.

Another heads up for you guys!. I received an email from Myer One with a couple of offers, one being 25% off toys at Myer stores today only. Unfortunately it can't be used in conjunction with existing offers, but at least it gives those who are interested a second-chance!

On the topic of 7662 MTT's, I noted that David Jones Toombul were very well-stocked with them. Saw at least 4 there.

And it seems all the new stuff [Pirates, Space Police] are coming out in the second half of '09... But theres still new SW stuff and I will [if anything] get all the stuff I've missed out on in '08 ect...

Well, the Boxing Day catalogues are out according to lasso and the only possible item of interest is that K-Mart has hundreds of toys reduced to clear, but no idea what :sceptic:

Interestingly, some stores are still restocking as I was back at K-Mart today and since yesterday a flood of Gunships ($135), General Grievous' ($115) and discounted Mars Mission sets had arrived.

I'm in Brisbane, decided to some last minute drifting at the shops last night.

Went to Carindale and checked out most shops (except Target) and they were pretty bear, except for SW stuff. I suppose that shows that either kids arent into the new line, or it's too expensive.

I have just been on holidays and finally got around to reading "The Return of the King" from the LotR trilogy (I read the first two books on my summer holiday last year). So I was quite in the fantasy mode when I got home and spent some time checking out the Castle line at K-Mart. My local had a good selection, so I went all out and bought the Mine, Troll ship, Siege Tower, Troll attack wagon, Mine defender and that little wizard kit (apologies if I got those names a little off).

I haven't bought outside the SW line for quite some time, but this stuff looked really good, and good value compared with the SW range. I actually spent some time looking at the excellent reviews of the sets on this site before I took the plunge.

I'm thinking that might now be my Christmas day's entertainment - building these kits. Do you think it's acceptable to wrap them and put them with the kids toys that come from Santa (we keep the kids stockings away from the tree) and just put my name on it....a Christmas miracle !! (don't think my wife will buy that).

Anyway this is a little off topic for this thread, but I did want to mention most places (except for DJ's) were pretty bear. Though Toyworld had like 20 Republic Gunships, and I can remember with the first Gunship back in 2002 that Toyworld offloaded them for $50, wonder if they might have some post Christmas sell off of these ???

depressing...no lego sale in myer, dj, target or kmart barring the few sets on clearance in kmart (didn't pay attention since they are mostly technic and the speed racer grand prix for $45).

anyone found anything good for boxing day??

Posted

Well, Lego's Shop at Home sales have started now with 30-50% off a lot of sets.

They are clearing a lot of stuff out.

It's annoying that they update these sales AFTER people have ordered since the new sets have become available - lucky us, paying shipping twice. Whee!

They do allow you to add to orders; I've done it once. I just did a $611.96 order so I can't complain.

How do you do that? I've never seen the option. Or do you have to contact Customer Service and ask?

Great to see these specials at last!

Boxing day sales were non-existent, like I predicted. There was hardly any LEGO on the shelves, so there was no great need to clear it. I visited DJ, Myer, Target, TRU and KMart at Chadstone SC. Only TRU and Target had any sort of "range" of LEGO sets at all, and even that was a poor selection.

Posted
hey svelte, wanna share an order? we can split the shipping. i can stop by bondi or anywhere near the city to collect.

Too late - I ordered yesterday when the new stuff came. But I've contacted them and I'll PM you if they allow combined orders (as above).

I went to TrU and they had a few reduced items from the SW rnge;

- V-19 for $80

- Twilight for $140 (I finally picked this up - they didn't actually have a "sale" sticker on this, and was really only by chance I noticed the small price sticker on the rack read $139.99)

- Magna guard - can't remember but was at least $10 off

- Republic Cruiser (episode 1 red) - $120 - I still am resisting this kit, mainly because I buy way too much LEGO, and although a good looking kit I need to cut back somewhere.

I really didn't look at the other stuff, but I don't recall seeing any "sale" stickers.

And the GCY (Brisbane) store had a good stock of sets. Much better than the others who have had constant sales and are now down to a few slim pickings.
