joeygunns Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Can't remember if this has been reported but I saw 3661 Bank & Money Transfer at K-mart the other night for $89, hoping for a 20% off sale. This is K-mart exclusive right? I saw that at my local K-mart as well, I haven't seen it anywhere else. POTC sets are now in stock at Target at Garden City (or now westfield as its not called) in Newcastle, I picked up the i picked up the Isla De Muerta for $39, I know i said I wasn't going to get any, but the sets are great and the captain Jack minifig is fantastic.
tj19941994 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I am appalled by the prices of these POTC sets . Luckily I am going back to the UK next week where the prices are a bit more reasonable.

Good news that POTC is at Target. Now we just need to wait for another one of their somewhat regular %off sales and score it on the cheap (although the savings on a Captains Cabin are small enough that waiting for a %off sale isn't worth it :P
BrickAl Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Myer Indooroopilly has packs of 7499 flexible and straight track marked at $24.95 and there is currently a further 20% off. Not a bad buy for $20. Still half a dozen packets when I left this afternoon.

lightningtiger Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 What really bites is that these reports of POTC and train track in the eastern states and none in South Australia at all ! This is getting one tiger quite upset, and there is nothing I or anyone can do about it ! I visited TRU Gepps Cross - no POTC, I visted Myer TTP - no train track ! Tired I am, sick and tired of how us South Aussies get treated by the retailers HQ's in the eastern states. My son misses out again for his birthday ! Oh, by the way - yes 3661 Bank & Money Transport is a Kmart only exclusive and only when they get bored of it Lego might hand ball it to independents !
JasonV Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I don't know if WA has it any better than SA. I'd order online but don't want to risk any damage to the box. It would be hard to resist the QAR; anyone have any estimate on an Australian price?

jonwil Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 WA has it worse than SA because we dont have the independent guys SA has. (Laygo etc) But yeah WA and SA miss out on so much and not just LEGO, food outlets and a lot more.

[snip] If it's the flexible train tracks you're referring to, they have them at TRU TTP, although at the full ~$30.

I do know for a fact that TC has quite a few Western Australian customers I have heard along the grapevine. Maybe a stand might have to be taken, like Public Enemy used to say 'Fight The Power !' Brick On !
WetWired Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I think I'll just order some POTC from bricklink, no way I'm paying RRP for them here when all I want is the captain jack minifigs and a few of the custom pieces (globe), I'll probably just get the fountain of youth (for blackbeard/swearingen) and the captains cabin or whatever it's called for jack sparrow and the globe\ships in bottles
dotmike Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Tired I am, sick and tired of how us South Aussies get treated by the retailers HQ's in the eastern states. My son misses out again for his birthday ! I feel your pain. I was very much hoping that the Cars sets would be out for a Sunday birthday present, as a certain 7 year old has had his eye on the Mater + Lightning combo since I showed him Flickr pictures from the toy fair a few months ago. Not just SA, but I think Australia in general is slow to get LEGO. Pretty much the only time you see an Aussie in the forums joining in the discussion or reviewing a new set is when they've had it express posted from the US or Europe. Maybe what LEGO Australia should do, if it's going to keep charging such obscene prices here, is at least ensure early delivery... Put our meagre (and premium priced) allocation at the beginning of the global run for distribution. That way, the "can't wait, must have it ASAP!" people (raises hand, guilty as charged) are happy to pay the high premium, to get the boasting rights of early ownership. I got series 2 and 3 of the collectable minifigs from Germany and the US respectively, enjoyed the privileged mystique of being an early Aussie owner, and by the time they appeared locally in Target they were overpriced ancient history. If they'd been out in Australia earlier, I might have actually paid the $10 per minifig cost (oh, didn't you hear, that's going to be LEGO Australia's new price for Series 5, since they've heard we enjoy paying inflated prices so much!) to get them at the same time as our northern hemisphere brethren. Anyway, off to Barnes & Noble to add a few Cars sets to my POTC order, as they still have 10% preorder available until tomorrow, and if they ship (express) on Monday they'll probably get here earlier than the local shelves anyway, and much, much cheaper: Flo's V8 Café = $119.99 AUD when it appears in TRU next week or so, and $49.20 AUD where I'm actually buying it from (B&N).

You guys have to be kidding if you think you are being hard done by when you have to wait a while till stock reaches you thousands of kilometers from the distribution centers in Sydney. You are lucky that you get all that extra transport cost for the same RRP as the eastern states IMHO. The other benefit you guys have is there might be stock left by the time stuff goes on clearance. In Melbourne and Sydney most stuff sells out never to return long before clearance sales happen. I don't know of any independents like TC or Laygo in Melbourne either.

KartoffelViking Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 The following PotC sets were being put on the shelves at Target Newton (Adelaide) about half an hour ago: Isla de la Muerta The Cannibal Escape The Mill Pity they didn't have Fountain of Youth, which is the only set I would consider getting at RRP.

They are predicting the aussie dollar will hit 1.15 by then, so you would save even more.

The Dollar will drop faster than you can believe, or possibly another disaster, so many things can effect the strength of the dollar so I wouldn't be gambling on it. The only reason to wait a couple of months would be for the same reason why waiting for Toy Story sets was smart, the movie will end and they will want to get rid of excess stock at huge discounts! But that itself is a risk.

I'd say don't bother, the chances are they'll cancel all or part of your order on you before they get the sets in. Basically if Lego doesn't supply them by May 1 they cancel. I got completely messed around by them with the Pharaoh's Quest pre-order which consisted of them having the charge on my credit card for several weeks and them never honouring any of the sets I pre-ordered.

DarthSion Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 We are not even close to one, and it is not us, our dollar is not strong its the US dollar is very weak. AS I said if it weakens in 2 months, there will be the toy sale.
TanTile Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 even if the dollar weakened or not we will still have a mid year toy sale, its only a couple of months away so with our dollar so strong all retail stores will make a tidy profit anyways even if they ordered stock last month, sea freight will take a few months to get here so its win win for them... if they by passed LEGO themselves and ordered from a U.S wholesaler i bet they would get a much better deal with the wholesalers, i am also a Star wars fan and i remember when K-mart had the Hasbro Turbo Tank at the mid year toy sale a couple of years back and i brought a couple, i had an issue with one of them (mainly stickers) i rang Hasbro Australia to get replacements and they said to me that they cant because K-Mart out source that product and that they dont have any yet in the warehouse as of yet.. so i know that they do skip the respected company's from time to time
lightningtiger Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Found a surprise at Castle Plaza Target, I asked and was shown all the POTC sets they had plus a tip....Cars2 tomorrow ! My son will have a choice then eh ? Brick On !
WetWired Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I'm not sure if anyone will want these but they're free to anyone willing to pick them up\pay for postage. I have an empty box of series 3 and 4 minifigs, take them or leave them they're getting thrown otherwise. I'm in Springwood QLD
