I was told of by Target.....may be a sale on these after 16th of May....fingers crossed for a 20% off sale again eh ? I hope that's the case, although don't Target normally start their sales on Thursdays? (The 16th is a Monday.) If it was that week the timing would be good for another offer where Target are currently giving a $5 voucher when you spend $50 or over between now and Sunday. It's automatically printed at the end of the receipt: Now, it's only redeemable between 12 May - 18 May. So if you did need to buy something unrelated from Target now and got some voucher(s), then if the sale was on during that period you could buy something like The Mill for: The Mill: $79 (Target's regular price) - 20% - $5 = $58.20 Which is a 27% saving over the LEGO Australia RRP. Takes a tiny bit of the sting out of the very high local prices. (If the timing's right, maybe ask relatives if they have unwanted $5 vouchers, that's where mine are coming from.)
Hewman Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Yep, mine's also been cancelled...... I didn't believe the previous posts about those that have had previous Lego pre-order sets cancelled, shame really. I now am a believer and won't waste my time and money pre-ordering with them either. Either they get the stock or they don't, surprising they haven't since the sets have even landed here in Australia. Not sure why you wouldn't believe what was written here, but my best advice is to keep a close eye on B&N to see when the big sets pop up as there's a good chance they will disappear quickly after becoming available.

That's what I did with PQ as well, although you end up paying more for shipping because the sets don't tend to all arrive on their site in one go and some sell out. I imagine the QAR will sell out quickly there like most of their big sets do (perhaps they don't get many in). Also, I think we have a winner for the worst voucher ever with that Target one. Edit: I've noticed that no PotC sets have made it into the Aus best sellers yet. This would usually be a shock for new sets that do look very nice, but I think the steep prices are putting off more people than just discerning AFOLs. Edited May 6, 2011 by hewman

And it is actually being listed on "bargain shopper" sites like Buckscoop as a genuine $5 voucher. I agree the wording is ambiguous. I think it's emphasising there is a minimum spend for those items, rather than that you can only buy those items. I also think it would indeed be valid for a 20% sale price reduction, as it's a $5 voucher not a further %. I'll try to get further confirmation nearer the time it's valid if I decide to try to buy anything, although at this point I think you guys have made me very scared... Since I find it difficult enough explaining my hobby of playing with "children's toys", redeeming this as a male would take the cake!

You're probably right about the vouchers, I saw some tags advertising them in the lego section, so assumed they were valid everywhere but I admit I didn't check out the fine print as I wasn't interested in purchasing anything.

I would interpret this as meaning "you have to buy at least $5 of women's clothing" ... and that a 20% off toys/Lego (if there was one going) would still happen. If you bought socks (valued >= $5) and a box of Lego, you would get $5 off the total, plus 20% off the Lego price. I believe a % off sale does NOT count as "any other offer" for the discount to be "not in conjunction with". It makes sense to me...

Or it could be cos I ordered another item as well and I will be very very annoyed if they cancel all the POTC stuff individually and send the other item...cos I do not want to pay for express shipping for 1 measly item......

I placed an order at about the same time as you, and while my order hasn't been cancelled (yet), it still hasn't been dispatched yet either. Their website claimed that the 8043 Excavator was usually dispatched within 3 days, but I notice that it has been taken off their website now. I have been waiting for over 3 weeks... Did anyone else place an order for the 8043 Excavator from The Hut at about the same time (14th Arpil), and have you received yours yet...?

Hi, Been an ongoing follower of the thread but haven't been bothered to create an account until now. Just wanted to let you know what's happened with my 8043 order off The Hut. I ordered a smaller Technic model a little earlier than my order of the 8043. A couple of days later, I received confirmation that both items have been dispatched. Both e-mails came separately with a short interval. About two weeks later, on a Thursday, I see a box left at my front door, it was the smaller Technic set and since they were dispatched separately, I thought that my 8043 set would arrive either on Friday or the following Monday. Then come Saturday, I received an e-mail from TheHut stating that AusPost has returned the item to sender (TheHut) without any reason provided from Auspost (their claim) and if I wanted to find out why, I should contact AusPost which I did on Monday. All I had was an order number and therefore the Customer Service representative on the phone could not help me and told me that once TheHut receives the item back, they would be able to look into the matter. I have since contacted TheHut but they have not responded. With the set taken off the website, and Splat not having received his set either, something doesn't seem right. I have a feeling that they've realized that shipping the item for free is a mistake and they're most definitely making a loss and have therefore gone ahead to say that it got dispatched, wait a few weeks and say that it's been returned? Haven't had any issues with ordering games off them but yeah, this just seems suss. Would like to know if Brix got his too. Also, KSTART15 code doesn't work anymore =[

If you want to contact your local Post Office to find out the reason or if there is more information to be added to your address please update so save any further inconvenience on future orders. I have reviewed my account at TheHut.com and the address details were accurate and complete. I can't help but think their offer on the 8043 was too good and was never really going to be honored. On the plus side, at least I have now had my money refunded. If anyone comes across a good source for an 8043, please let us know as it looks like a great set, but the Australian asking price of $350 is very steep. There seem to be some good deals on BrickLink, but as I am a new member on Bricklink I am having trouble getting any shipping quotes from stores. Anyway, keep up the good work everyone and thanks for the heads up on sales, they help me condense the time I spend shopping for my addiction : )

Haven't received my refund yet, got notification on the 30th of April. How long did it take your refund to go through BrickAl?

It looks like they sent this exact same email out to everyone in Australia who ordered the 8043 (also discussed on Whirlpool). I too have received my refund already. I know of at least one guy who emailed them back saying that he didn't want a refund and they claim that they're shipping it out to him. FWIW they're still offering it for about AUD$225 shipped which is cheaper than anywhere else except perhaps Bricklink.
Hewman Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 The Pet Shop set is to be relaesed May 10 like the rest of the world, at the price of $270, factor in the $35 for shipping (or has it gone up since my last S@H order?) and you're looking at well over twice what someone in the US would pay. As an AFOL it is extremely disappointing to be treated like this. I hope this pricing structure is costing them a lot more than just me not buying from them. I'm more than happy to pay more than the cheapest place in the world to buy lego, but not twice as much.

Every few days I get the following (automated) email: We are aware that your order for the item(s) below is still outstanding and apologise that this has not yet been sent.Order number xxxxxxxx * Lego Technic: Motorised Excavator We're sorry this has happened. We're continuously looking for ways to improve the service we offer to you and we really hope you'll give us a chance to do better next time. We remain in contact with our suppliers and will keep you updated as soon as we are able to send the item to you.
