Svelte Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) Not technically a sale, but I did notice Target at Bondi Junction had a restock of Indy sets today: 7621 - Lost Tomb 7622 - Race for the Stolen Teasure 7623 - Temple Escape 7625 - River Chase (which I haven't seen for months on a store shelf). If they're not being restocked, it may be one of the last changes to grab them. Also at the same Target, I was surprised to see a very battered but sealed 7237 Police Station (at full price): I last saw this at the same Target in July 2006 when they had it on sale for $70 so methinks someone took advantage of the post Christmas returns madness to palm it off Edited January 4, 2009 by svelte_corps

Svelte Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 i thought no return without a proper receipt? in the us, only very selected stores accept returns without receipt... That was just a guess as it seems weird it suddenly appeared at about the time when stores were doing returns. Stores here will often take returns without a receipt but won't give you money back, only the exchange value to use in store. As with many things in life it depends on how much of a smooth talker you are I am amazed that Big W would even let you take back opened, used and built sets without checking the contents upon return! I did this a few times a few years ago when I was coming out of my dark ages. I don't know if they still do this though.

As with many things in life it depends on how much of a smooth talker you are ah got it. ymmv. have you ever return a christmas gift without receipt? i'm guessing maybe the other possibility might be the person bought a 7744 and returned this instead, under the guise of an official receipt? I am amazed that Big W would even let you take back opened, used and built sets without checking the contents upon return! I did this a few times a few years ago when I was coming out of my dark ages. I don't know if they still do this though. big w bought all its sets directly from TLC. and so by extension, can provide all of TLC's satisfaction guarantee. any opened, used set will be returned to TLC for credit or money back so no real need to check contents. when you get your new S@H shipment, check the return form. it will be the same level of service except big w (which is really the myer coles group, so that includes kmart and target as well) gets to buy at the special retailers' prices.

That was my other guess But it had a shelf sticker with the correct set number so someone may have realised the mistake.
Rayman Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 big w bought all its sets directly from TLC. and so by extension, can provide all of TLC's satisfaction guarantee. any opened, used set will be returned to TLC for credit or money back so no real need to check contents. I experienced something similar at my local Big-W, when I spotted two skeleton castle sets on the shelf that were clearly broken into by a scrupleless individual- I took a peek inside and thankfully the dragon and say 70% of the parts were still enclosed. So I informed one of the staff about the damaged stock and inquired about a possible discount (I was hoping for 50% ), but much to my disapointment and confirming what Natelite wrote about TLC satisfaction gaurantee. Big-W would rather return the damaged stock for a refund than to sell it off at a discounted price. So there you go.
Whittleberry Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Hmm, that's odd. When I bought my Death Star II from Myer the other day, while I was waiting around for the cashier to contact the manager about offering a discount for the battered box, another Myer worker said to me that "you'll definitely get some discount". Eventually I got it for 25% off because they were having a sale starting the next day, but even so, it looked like they might have given a discount. I say it's odd because Myer and Big W are both part of Coles Myer, and they must have the same policies about this stuff.
Svelte Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I didn't realise Big W was part of Coles Myer. however Myer do give discounts for damaged boxes - I got a King's Castle Siege for $95 (down from the then sale price of $120) just before Xmas last year because the box had a minor tear! Damaged stock is clearanced at K-Mart too - I saw a crushed Rogue Shadow and AT-AT in their clearance section a while back - the discounts weren't great though. Aah, so sad - no new sales and no 09 sets yet, so we're reduced to reminiscing about the sales that once were *sniff*
Hewman Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Aah, so sad - no new sales and no 09 sets yet, so we're reduced to reminiscing about the sales that once were *sniff* Well there are the shop at home sales, although quite a few 'sold out's are appearing now, particularly with the star wars sets. Don't worry in a few weeks many new sets will be available and we'll all be trying to find which shop stocks which sets first, so we can have a mad dash around the city/suburbs to get our lego fix.

TRU and david jones are part of woolies group i think. woolies australia is not affiliated or associated with woolies uk that is bankrupt. i have never seen kmart clearance only the dmged set. if a set is on clearance it should be regardless of the box quality. are you sure only the dmged RS and AT-AT boxes were on clearance? not sure about myer policy...in any case you are required to ask, i guess. and will be ymmv.
Svelte Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) are you sure only the dmged RS and AT-AT boxes were on clearance? yes, as there were only two sets, the boxes were all smooshed, they were with the other clearance merchandise on the special trolley up the back near the layby section, and the stickers on them said 'CLEARANCE' to be honest the prices weren't that good though, $60 for the Shadow and $160 for the AT-AT (but the boxes were ruined). to be fair i haven't seenK-Mart do that very often. obviously a lot of what happens store to store is discretionary on whoever's managing that dept. i wouldn't expect all low-level retail minions to have detailed knowledge of the Lego Group's return policy I find TRU also marks down damaged stock. I picked up a Republic Cruiser for $100 last year because the box had a hole in the back. TRU also has a weird discount which i've never seen any other store do, which is a sale price for the last box of that item in stock. It's weird as obviously the line is selling well, so much so that they need to clearance the last one they have! i guess it does free up shelf space though. Edited January 5, 2009 by svelte_corps
natelite Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 TRU also has a weird discount which i've never seen any other store do, which is a sale price for the last box of that item in stock. really? i just picked up the last republic cruiser for $120...which was the price since boxing day. drat...guess they haven't updated their database. when do they update the "last set weird discount"?
Svelte Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 really? i just picked up the last republic cruiser for $120...which was the price since boxing day. drat...guess they haven't updated their database. when do they update the "last set weird discount"? the 'last set' discount is erratic. i've only seen it at moore park, not at chatswood. it literally is just $10 or $20 off the RRP of the last set they have in stock of that item at that store. maybe with items already on sale they don't do it. $120 is still not a bad price for the Cruiser, it's an impressive set for an exclusive.

TRU and david jones are part of woolies group i think. woolies australia is not affiliated or associated with woolies uk that is bankrupt. Just to clarify a few things on who's aligned with who in Australia. Big W is owned by Woolworths Limited http://www.woolworthslimited.com.au/phoeni...amp;p=our-brand Kmart and Target are part of the Coles Group (owned by Wesfarmers) http://www.colesgroup.com.au/Home/ Myer, David Jones and Toys R Us are all separate businesses also, who are not aligned with the 2 companies above or each other, Myer was once owned by the ColesMyer group but was sold off.
Svelte Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Just to clarify a few things on who's aligned with who in Australia.... Thanks for clearing that up. I knew a few of the companies had changed but wasn't sure who owned what!
Hewman Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 My toys r us in Adelaide has a couple star wars sets on clearance, the magna guard for $69.99 and V-19 Torrent for $79.99. Plus the shelves are looking pretty empty, maybe in preparation for new stock coming in?
Darth_Legois Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 really? i just picked up the last republic cruiser for $120...which was the price since boxing day. drat...guess they haven't updated their database. when do they update the "last set weird discount"? Wierd, once I saw a cement truck at TRU with the "last ser discout" it was marked down to the low low price of $18....which is the same as the DJ's normal price. Anyway i picked up 7236 x2 at Kmart the other day for $8 something each. Seems they've only restocked on 7236 and impulses [everything but castle]
natelite Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Seems they've only restocked on 7236 and impulses [everything but castle] the kmart near my area is stocked with wave2 impulse. lots of troll warrior sets and the knight. guess the good wizard is officially oos. let the mark ups begin!
Whittleberry Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 OK, Myer in Melbourne CBD has literally 5 sets now. I asked a lady there about it and she said the next shipment of LEGO sets (including 2009 sets) will arrive in mid to late February. That's about 10% of the year they won't have had much LEGO for!

Wow, that is late. In 08 we had new stuff by the end of the first week of Jan. Stores probably don't care that much; 90% of yearly toy sales take place in December
Darth_Legois Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) My friend TFOL friend who was working at Toyworld during Christmas told me that the New SW BP's will arrive on the 15th of Jan at toyworld apparently. Which is ofcourse good! Well we already knew they're coming out this month but I thought it would be towards the end of the month.... Clone BP ON! Edited January 7, 2009 by Darth_Legois
I Scream Clone Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Coles Myer used to be all the above mentioned stores and Grace Bros/Myer. I wasn't aware of any split so I assume Myer falls under the Coles entity. It was strange at our local Target, they had Good Wizards rampaging all over the shelfs, and as I hadn't seen any impulses there earlier in the year, I snapped up a fair few of them at $5 each too. So old impulse at the 09 prices, sweet.

I wasn't aware of any split so I assume Myer falls under the Coles entity. This is quite a broad statement, and to say that ColesMyer "used to be all the above mentioned stores" is not true. I don't recall ColesMyer ever owning Big W or Toys R US? perhaps you are confusing Toys R Us with World 4 Kids(which was owned by ColesMyer), a lot of things happen that people aren't aware of but if you had read my previous post this would have enlightened you. Here is what the Coles Group owns currently http://www.colesgroup.com.au/Home/ Here is what Woolworths owns http://www.woolworthslimited.com.au/phoeni...amp;p=our-brand Myer is its own Business as is David Jones and Toys R Us. Now onto new sets, Our local Toyworld is reporting that they are expecting New sets to arrive next week. The girl at KMart is also expecting them at the same time. Time will tell. Our Boxing Day orders from Shop@Home arrived on Monday which was quite a surprise as we only payed for regular mail and not Express. Anyone else receive there's yet?

Our Boxing Day orders from Shop@Home arrived on Monday which was quite a surprise as we only payed for regular mail and not Express. Anyone else receive there's yet? My order came yesterday; I was advised by S@H that if you order over $AUD800 then you automatically get upgraded to Express. Would be nice if they mentioned this anywhere on the website, I'd be annoyed if I was regularly making large orders and paying an extra $55 for Express shipping and found this out Next week sounds about right for new sets in store. Yay! The SW line up is a bit better than last years Jan releases, and so is City.

Yay! The SW line up is a bit better than last years Jan releases, and so is City. That would explain it, we spent over $800, mainly because my wife wanted 2 medieval villages. Last year we waited 11 working days for our order to arrive from shop at home after paying for express mail... Here is the funny thing though, it was in Perth 4 days after placing the order. Courier Australia was supposed to deliver on the 5th Day but had no room in there van So it was put to the side until a van was made available. That's right they required a dedicated van.(Its a 45 Minute round trip from their depot to our place). I've given up on the Star Wars sets but my son Is checking every chance he gets after he received a few Clone Wars sets from santa
