Have they had issues in the past with people stealing minifigs?

Maybe they have, just seems a little extreme. Will be interesting to see how long these hang around. I don't recall BigW having an aggressive discounting policy once items are stale. This one might be different.

Good luck to those hunting out there on Thursday - though it sounds like most of us just buy on line these days. Thanks for the tip Gerry Harvey - you're right, there's heaps to be saved by buying OS.

Yep, found all but Hogwart's $99 set at Kmart Firle.

Oh, need money I do.....hopefully Myer gets the HP sets during their sale and Myer One 10% happens again at the same time !

Big W have had some decent discounts online before, so we can only keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks for the info, LT, that's good to know that Alien Conquest is coming out before September, and some accurate advertising "buy it first at Target" rather than claiming to be an exclusive. That small spongebob set is so overpriced.

They got rid of their Toy Story stock very heavily discounted. I think since their normal prices are pretty good they don't have a lot of very slow selling stock so don't have to discount a lot.

For those who own a nintendo Wii, I saw a Lego wiimote on sale at TRU for (i think) $50. It looked incredibly cool - I didn't take a pic but you can google one. From what I gather by the packaging, it includes a red brick separator.

Big W are strange with their clearance pricing. The large space police ship was reduced to $67 for a fair while, the Venator was half price but I've also seen the big Agents helicopter at a couple stores this year, and it's still full price and the set is from 2009.

Just some extra details from the Target catalogue for those that haven't looked. Hogwarts Castle $139, Hogwarts Express $89 and the Police Station $99 (this set seems good value everywhere).

They were also clearing the SW Venator out at $120 at one stage.

I went to TRU last night after calling both Innaloo & Cannington stores to check for stock, Cannington hadn't received their allotment of 8404 Public Transport. They both answered the phone "Hello TRU, we now do lay-buys, how can I help", excellent! Or so I thought...

First, the lay-buy has a $200 minimum. OK fine, I went back and grabbed a Nerf blaster and a couple of smaller sets to make up the difference. Then they handed me a 4 page form to fill out. OK, only name and address on first page followed by 4 pages of legal junk and a signature on the last page. They gave me a copy to take home, obviously I didn't read it all before signing (tsk tsk).

Then they ask for photo ID and fill in a bunch of stuff on the computer, following a laminated instruction sheet, SLOW! Next they had to print out 4 more pages of stuff, including another form to sign. But of course the printers are in the managers office, because apparently the stuff can;t be trusted not to abuse them. So the girl runs off to grab them, comes back empty handed & looking confused, realises she hit the wrong button and runs off to see if they printed this time.

They offer 8wk, 16wk and 24wk periods and you can pay weekly or fortnightly, in-store or online. The girl suggested doing the in-store option and then setting up online payments myself at a later date. I haven't tried yet, but I think she mentioned direct debit which I don't like, prefer making manual payments. No idea if you can pay greater amounts so you don't have to do it each fortnight or pay it off early. Will have to read that form.

So I pay the 10% deposit plus the lay-buy fee (about $10 I think, ouch), print 2 copies of the receipts from the till, attempt to staple it all together (the stapler breaks) and we're done. EASY!

I'm pretty sure signing up for life insurance is a less convoluted process. Anyway I just thought I'd share my experiences in case anyone else is thinking of using their service and considering ducking in during their lunch break. Luckily I was in no rush, in a good mood, the store was empty and the staff were nice. We joked about the whole process compared to the other dept stores, they said something about converting TRU America's computer system and how they are trying to refine it. They really must, Dawkins forbid they have to do all that when it gets really busy.

If you managed to read all that (tl;dr I know), consider yourselves warned!

Hey craym0nk,

What a story, certainly worthy of telling your grand kids when they're older around a camp fire :-)

As for Toys'R'Us, im impressed you completed the paperwork and walked out with a smile...... they would have lost my business at "Lay-By Fee",

something I don't believe in.

OK, it gets worse. Just read through some of the paperwork and apparently I have also agreed to a $2.90 monthly account fee! This was not made clear to me by the staff. That's another $17.40 over 6 months.

Turns out TRU have outsourced their lay-buy service to this 3rd party company Certegy. I rang them to ask about the T&C: apparently you can save on the monthly fee by paying it out early. But the terms also state that a 5 day warning before pickup may be required as they reserve the right to store the goods offsite. I asked about a "cooling off period" in regards to the contract and was told that I would need to take it up with the store.

This is all sounding way too dodgy and costly. I think I'll march back to TRU and cancel the whole shebang. Probably loose the $10 service fee, though I will argue this with the manager. If I tell them I am still willing to pay for some of the goods right away (damn store exclusives), it might change their mind. I'd rather this Certegy mob not get any of my hard earned.

I know, I know, shouldn't have signed something I hadn't read. But in all honesty, my previous experiences with lay-buys in other stores gave me a false sense of security. Sorry to take this further off-topic, but please let it be a lesson to all of you.

DO NOT LAY-BUY WITH TOYS'R'US!

Well I've never been happy with TOYRUS, not enough stock and too high prices.

Here's my experince with Myers Online

I ordered a Imperial Flagship and a QAR from Myer online with the discount code just in case I couldn't get it in store.

About 3 days later I got a email asking for my credit card details so I called them as Im not sending credit card details over email.

I received another email from them today saying both items are now out of stock. I called and go what are you on about they where in stock when I bought them, the lady goes well I called our store today and they dont have any stock available and that I will get a refund.

Maybe there picking up some tips from kmart who have the same hopeless online store.

That is bad. I'm amazed you don't pay for it as soon as you order it. It's not like Myer is a small family run business. Hopefully this poor service helps out the independents a bit.

As for the toys r us lay-by saga, I'd like to say I'm surprised by such shoddy service, but it seems pretty consistent with their business practices.

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned, but the Kmart sale starts tomorrow at 6. I was fairly disappointed not seeing the Shuttle Expedition there, I thought they would have stocked up previously.

My local Target had nothing of interest. No Mace Windu's Starfighter either. :sceptic:

Paid a visit to Big W Midland today.

A ton of Pharaoh's quest sets. Also about 7 or 8 Imperial Shuttles but they were in appaling condition. They attached these anti-theft devices which are small circular beeper things, but the cord was wrapped around it so tight it cut into the boxes and absolutely ruined them. The point of these devices is to set off the alarm if someone tries to walk out with one right? How is someone going to smuggle the imperial shuttle out without someone spotting them? So stupid.

Didn't see any new Kingdom sets; but they were all available at the local Toy World.

No QAR either.

The news about the Alien Conquest at Target has confirmed my decision NOT to go to TRU, K-Mart or Big W for any of their sale items.

Only question is how much I can afford and what to buy first (clearly the Diagon Alley is top of the list as its an exclusive and will probably sell out fast, even faster than the MMV did I suspect)

Well my Mindstorms set finally arrived from BN today, 4 weeks after shipping (note: I paid for the next tier shipping option, so there is no difference at all!)

After my complaints of their packaging previously, I must say this one was a much better job. The back of the box was slightly dented, but other than that the set actually fit snugly in the box for once.

Yes I received my second set today, sent exactly 2 days after the first one, arrived exactly 2 days after the first order, only problem is I paid extra for faster shipping. Good luck getting a refund though!! Ha.

Looking back at the dates of shipping, they were actually shipped on the same day, so paying more means slower postage. Shocker!

It's fairly standard. The Blockade Runner, Falcon and Death Star II were like this at Kmart, the ones in the store. Ask them to get one from the back for you and there's no security device. Any large, expensive set will have this.

Speaking from experience, the biggest problems are minifig and other blind-packed toys eg the black-packaged Hot Wheels stuff which I'm not sure why they sell. Considering that aisle is always wrecked by people ripping them open.

Is that a UCS Shuttle in your pants or are you just excited to see so much Lego in one place !!!

I am hugely disappointed by the online feature, the small number offered by kmart and target, and by bigw lack of availability for the new SW sets.
