distortme Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) Amazon UK shipping Lego now. Interesting... I guess pricing is comparable so unlike ordering from Amazon.com (which won't ship it to Aust) there not a massive difference usually. Edited June 30, 2011 by distortme
TheDarkness Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 It certainly will be something to keep an eye on, particularly if they get the bigger sets in. The price listed was also in pounds, and then their VAT tax is removed as we aren't buying in that country. So I believe it was 110 pounds before freight

I guess pricing is comparable so unlike ordering from Amazon.com (which won't ship it to Aust) there not a massive difference usually. Thanks for that news distortme. It comes at a time when the $ is at it's highest against the pound for over 25 years.
Strand Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks but I need xmas layby just bought a nag. Anyone recommend sets for someone looking to break out of SW only sets. I only collect SW sets right now and was looking at trying other themes when I was a kid back in the mid 80s - early 90s my folks often bought me city, pirates, castle and the odd technic. While taking advantage of amazon uk free au/nz shipping on some books for my mum, I got brick master atlantis, castle and pirates, and a preorder for the city brickmaster, all of which were nice to build, although didn't really see much in atlantis No interest in HP or aliens, and I wouldn't spend one cent on disney stuff even if I had a gun to my head. I also collect mainly SW, but also moved into Pirates/Naval some years ago. Like Star Wars, there's a great aesthetic element to displaying the ships. City's pretty good too, but I personally didn't get into that theme because I missed that boat when it comes to building sets and they're crazy expensive now.

They're not shipping Lego to Australia - only the Brickmaster books (which I guess classify as books rather than toys). Sorry to disappoint.

Sorry to disappoint. They will ship Lego internationally. A couple hours ago I put some stuff in my basket and all was eligible to ship to Australia. Just now I added a bunch more lego sets (all supplied by amazon, no 3rd party businesses), ranging form just released to having been out for a couple years and not a single one of them is deliverable to my address here, yet the ones I put in the basket earlier are. It seems very strange, and I'm not sure that this shipping of Lego to Australia is something that is going to last. I'd suggest anyone on the fence about a bargain there, grab it now, just in case it doesn't last.
craym0nk Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I used the Kmart online lay-buy system a few days ago, very easy online setup. Still had to go into the store to pay a deposit and confirm the order. Seemed that the online portion didn't save any time since the barcode on my print out didn't scan and the girl had to do it all from scratch. Didn't take long, didn't have to grab stock off the shelves. There were signs all through the toy section saying not to bother taking stock to the lay-buy counter, they had a special catalogue with the barcodes printed over them to scan in. Hope this doesn't result in people missing out on the less plentiful sets. Pity its only bigw who has the new SW sets like pod racer set and sith infiltrator. Kmart have both the Pod Race and Sith Infiltrator sets and plenty of them.
Artanis I Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Kmart have both the Pod Race and Sith Infiltrator sets and plenty of them. +1 to that.

I had the same experience a few weeks ago when trying to order the 8043 Excavator...one day it was available to be shipped, the next day it wasn't. The only thing I could put it down to was the product being supplied by a 3rd party vs Amazon direct....

The price listed was also in pounds, and then their VAT tax is removed as we aren't buying in that country. So I believe it was 110 pounds before freight 8043 = 110.48 pounds shipping = 22.58 pounds total = $199
technicmad Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 8043 = 110.48 pounds shipping = 22.58 pounds total = $199 Just spent $200 on the 8043, and queued up $100 worth of books... time to logout ;)
TheDarkness Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 8043 = 110.48 pounds shipping = 22.58 pounds total = $199 Exactly. Hopefully they deliver these through for such a great price
Hewman Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Exactly. Hopefully they deliver these through for such a great price If you guys can let us know how it goes, that would be great. Given the express shipping, we shouldn't have too long to wait. I expect that Amazon will be a lot better than B&N re honouring an order and if they don't, I imagine they'd refund a lot quicker too.

Hewman Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) I just bought it and it said estimated delivery 9th-12th July. That's not too bad. I've found with books that amazon tends to be conservative with their shipping estimates in order to avoid getting lots of queries about 'where's my order'. I'd say it's a good chance you'll have it next week. I haven't been able to work out the pattern for what is able to be ordered and what isn't. The only rules I can guess are 'no star wars sets' as every different one I tried was not allowed to be shipped to Aus. Quite a few older city sets could be, but not all, there's just no obvious consistency. Edited July 1, 2011 by hewman
Splat Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks for the heads up on the 8043 Technic Excavator at amazon.co.uk - I just placed an order for two of them - total AU$382.59 - estimated delivery 9th-12th of July. I was going to order some other stuff, but everything else I was interested in seems to come from other sellers (ie. not Amazon themselves). I still have my order for two more 8043's at TheHut ('Awaiting Stock Pick'), but given that I placed that order on the 14th of April, I'm not convinced that I will receive them any time soon. As soon as the Amazon order comes though (fingers crossed) I will cancel the order from TheHut. I really need the treads, linear actuators, motors, and IR receivers for a MOC I'm trying to make... If the Amazon order falls through, I might have to resort to just buying them locally from Myer at $279 each (ouch).
TheDarkness Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I just bought it and it said estimated delivery 9th-12th July. That's what mine says too with the dispatch estimate July 1. Will be interesting to see how long it takes, but my order is already being prepared and unable to be changed.

Will be interesting to see how long it takes, but my order is already being prepared and unable to be changed. They are pretty good, and shipping is substantially better value with multiple sets. I ordered a few large sets from them a few months ago, arrived in less than a week, delivered by UPS. Sets were in great condition too. As someone mentioned above there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason for what will ship to us and what won't....its just a case of putting it all in your cart and trying to checkout.

That's very comforting. There are a few items there which are alot cheaper than their Australian RRP, and if their prices are comparable to B&N for a fair chunk of items then I will be ordering from them. Unless it is an absolute bargain, I don't want to wait four weeks for B&N to eventually get a set to me.
Notorious Guf Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Does anyone know how I can get hold of a couple of the Lego Banners you see hanging up in the shops? Maybe someone has a connection where they can score me a couple for a price?
TheDarkness Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Wow, my Amazon order has been shipped already Last time I ordered from them was probably 5 years ago for some dvds, but it seems they have improved alot since then. I'm very impressed so far

nzkiwiman Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Hrm, seems to only be that Technic Set that Amazon Uk will ship, as I put a bunch of City, Creator and Alien Conquest sets in mt cart and none can be shipped to my selected address (New Zealand)
