Can i ask with Bricklink store you bought yours from?

I called up DJ's regards to the modular sets and they asked that I call back end of September to find out if they will stock it or not... anyone know what would the retail price at DJ's for the modular sets be??

In the past they've been full RRP, so around $300, but normally they have a 25% off sale so they end up around $225. As others have said unless you get pretty good shipping rates this isn't a whole lot more than you'd pay to ship one in from the US assuming you want it MISB.

It is definitely worth the effort to know when they'll be in stock and be there the first day of the sale, as they tend to sell out quickly and not return.

Ok, I don't know if anybody cares about this, but I went past Target Melbourne Bourke Street last night after work, and at the end of the Lego isles they had some Kre-o sets. Kre-o is a Hasbro brand, and is another Lego clone. They even have a sticker on the front of the box that says 'Works with Leading Brands', which I assume means 'Works with Lego', but obviously they can't just come out and say that. All of the sets they had seemed to be Transformers related, and seem to have building instructions for two or three models (similar to the Lego Creator or Technic building instructions). The prices seem to be a bit steep though. For example, the large Optimus Prime set has 542 pieces and costs AU$129.00. That's an average of 23.8c/piece! You would expect a Lego set with a similar number of pieces to cost about AU$89.95 (such as the Creator Sonic Boom set with 539 pieces), or perhaps a little bit more for a licensed theme like Star Wars. As these Kre-o sets are located so close to the Lego sets in the store, I can see a lot of kids (not being Lego purists) picking up these sets, particularly because of the recent Transformers movies. Others have reported that the bricks themselves are quite good, and very similar to Lego in terms of materials used, piece design, and clutch characteristics.

Here are a few pics that I took: favicon.brickshelf.com.png BrickShelf Gallery

There is some more info about Kre-o in this topic, but I shall not mention this non-Lego brand in this topic any more. :smug:

Target has series 5 minifigs as well, but at $4.90 a pop I'll be ordering from overseas.

King's Castle can now be picked up for $78 from Big W, down from $148.

Myer TTP also had received the Red Cargo Train, but wasn't putting it on the shelves just yet.

Hmmmmmm, the Kings Castle price drop may just be on a Store by Store basis, my nearest still has them at $148............ shame

That's a bummer, sorry about that. This was Big W at TTP (Adelaide), btw.

No drama's, at least you spread the word, my local isn't obviously joining in on the mark down clearance fun but that doesn't mean other states/stores won't be doing that price.

Weird how were in the same state but nearest to me still scans at $149......

Yep, Target Newton was getting the minifig boxes plus Kingdom's sets out tonight on the shelves, and what's this Myers TTP have the train.....those %$#@ they lied to me this afternoon ! Oh,I should layby it else where now.....no wait, there is none nearer to me !

How many king's castles did BigW TTP have 'KartoffelViking' ?

I'm not sure, sorry. They used to have a few (three at least), but the one I found was tucked in between some of the new Kingomds sets, and when I saw it I just grabbed it, walked to the nearest scanner, smiled and never looked back

Btw, has anyone seen the new minifigure display cases anywhere else than at TRU?

No sign of the red cargo train at MYER in Morley or Perth CBD.

Both have S5 minifigs (although Perth didnt have any Gangsters when I was there earlier which is why I ended up at Morley for the 2 I wanted. Morley may also now have none left, I didnt check further :)

Morley was putting out a large amount of stock when I was there. They have the new Kingdoms, new NinjaGo, Alien Conquest, Star Wars (including the Falcon) and plenty of pretty much everything else MYER is meant to have in stock at this point. (including plenty of Heroica stock)

Target Morley had some of the new Kingdoms in stock, as did K-Mart.

Quite a bit of Series 3 and Series 4 around (K-Mart had both on the shelf with a $5 price tag and TRU also had both)

Oh and for all this BS from K-Mart about how their prices are down and this whole "ok" business plastered throughout their stores (and TV ads), there LEGO prices are no better than MYER or Target these days (and both of those retailers have %off sales)

I remember the days when Big W was good for a few % off RRP (more on large sets, sometimes 10% or more) but now both Big W and K-Mart pricing is pathetic.

I habe sent you a pm about Kingscastle, if you could reply that would be great.

Thanks

I bought some at BigW for $19.67 for the 16 holder. At TRU they were $29.95.

I agree, although Big W is still good for a decent discount on a select few sets. Currently, the 2507 Fire Temple has a RRP of 199.99, and that's what it is at Target, Myer, TRU, etc. When those stores inevitably have their 20% sales, it'll become $160.

Big W has it now (no sale required) for $144. A pretty decent discount, and I believe at all stores. The last few posts about the 7946 King's Castle sound even better, especially if that pricing is gradually rolling out to all stores.

Kmart, as you say, is usually pretty pathetic, and only really has decent prices when an item gets a yellow or red clearance sticker. Two such current items are the 7985 City of Atlantis for $89 (down from RRP 119.99, although Big W has always had it for $96), and the 7947 Prison Tower Rescue (I don't recall what the yellow clearance sticker has on it).

The problem is that these finds are few and far between, which is why this Aussie sales! thread is invaluable for tracking them down. Short of paying international freight fees, it's the main weapon against the local LEGO operation's greedy price gouging of Australians.

Please, everyone, keep on posting the bargains!

I've scanned non LEGO items at TARGET before and there are days it comes way before the price tag on the shelf, like 70% of the price. Scanned a scrapbook album that had price tag of $20 but after scanning it came up at $5. This was at Parramatta Target. I wonder if its a store glitch...

Perhaps i should start scanning every LEGO set and hope it the price comes up below shelf price? :P

Lego sets at Target do sometimes scan in at reduced prices too (sometimes), yet there is no mention of the cheaper price on the shelves.

Last year I saw the Technic Tractor with Trailer 8063 marked down from $129.95 to $99.95, and when I went to the checkout it scanned in at $49.95. About a week later they had a 20% off sale, and I got a second copy for $39.95.

In the most recent Target sale (in July), I picked up a few copies of the Creator Off-Road Power 5893 that has an RRP of $139.99, but again, it was scanning in at $39.95.

I would say that if you are in Target, and see a set that you are sort of thinking about getting, definitely scan it and you might get a good bargain. Not always, but sometimes.

WOW - those are a bargain! The check out people didn't say anything? I guess they are obligated to give you at the price it scans... :classic:

I've uploaded my receipt for the King's Castle to my Brickshelf account at http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/KartoffelViking/receipts/kings_castle.jpg if anyone needs it.

BrettBrick: thanks for the info about the display cases at Big W, looks like they will get some more of my money :classic:

Thanks for the upload of the receipt KartoffelViking...........

Just tried my local BigW which still has sets but are selling them at $148 dollars (as mentioned previously)

and I couldn't get the $78 price like you did, you did bloody well with that one.

The Customer Service chick explained that each BigW store operated individually when it comes to managers

specials and markdowns, so basically they make their own prices and clear out items as they deem fit.

So nationally on the BigW database it will still be $148.

Good luck to anyone else who maybe able to jag a great bargain.

Ow, just had a genius idea pop up............. Does BigW allow interstore transfers?

Transfer it from the expensive store to the cheaper store, do they allow that?

I just tried my local bigw and got the same story. The manager even called the store manager in SA but no luck.

Have to keep an eye out though, but there was only one there anyway.

Hey guys, I just got back from Big W hoping to find the Castle to no avail, also had Series 5 in stock so picked up what I needed and as I was leaving they rolled out the clearance trolley and had 8097: Slave I on sale for $51 from $137 so i had to snag that up

So it looks like a hit and a miss with Big W clearance items... Always best to walk around and scan things or find them Clearance Trolleys...

Good luck guys and gals..

What's the condition like for those clearance sets? I should really go to Big W more often. Nice deal that you picked up.

The box was a bit beat up but more shelf wear than anything from parents picking it up then putting the box back after seeing the RRP a many times  the box I'm not too worried about, i have seen worse looking boxes going at full retail.

+1 on occasional decent prices at Big W: they had the new Hogwarts Castle a couple of bucks cheaper in their everyday prices

than Target's 20% off sale...
