Was the space shuttle at Firle? I found it several aisles away from the Lego, scanned it and put it with the Lego, but resisted buying. Although I was bad and bought the big Ninjago set, for $99, I couldn't say no to half price and I haven't bought anything online for a while. Firle K-mart had plenty of half price (well half of their price) City advent calendars for $25. Also Pirates of the C. were heavily discounted too, 30-45% for the sets I saw today.

Edit: They also had the Mill Village Raid set for a rather respectable $69 I think.

So it was you ! Yeah, I forgot about the advents but still 25 bucks is too much for that crappy collection of parts - I'll pay 15, that's what it's worth.

King's carriage 35 bucks too - I forgot that one too !

I picked up a couple of Kingdoms sets at Kmart - Blacksmith Attack at $12 as above and Dragons Prison at $25. The King's Carriage was also on 'clearance' at $49 but didn't think this was discounted enough - wasn't $35 at my local :(

Lucky strike of the day however, was 10231 Shuttle for $50 due to a destroyed box and a few missing pieces - cheap enough to replace. Happy camper!

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but when I was there yesterday, Myer had a 30% off sale. It might be over today, though it could be worth a look...

Kmart and Target seem to have nothing so far. The Republic Frigate is sold out everywhere. :sceptic:

Just adding for completeness, I also saw:

Also add 2507 Ninjago big set (I've forgotten name) $99 ($200).

For anyone in Adelaide wanting a cheap Pets Shop Modular, there were a few copies at David Jones at Marion today. The boxes didn't look brilliant from what I saw but less than $200 isn't bad for an exclusive like that.

Hello All

In regard to the Lego on sale at K-Mart...I would also like to add the Ninjago Fire Temple for $99 (normally around $170 at KMart or $144 at Big W).

Posted

Series 6 Minifigures are available from Shop @ Home! $4.99 each + extremely high postage :P

meh i just wait for the shops to stock em at a better price, plenty of time to get these, it's not even 2012 yet

The Kmart deals are probably universally better, but if they've run out of stock and you suddenly decide you like Ninjago (like I have after getting a few heavily discounted sets), then Toys R Us are offering 30% off all Ninjago.

Haven't seen any other Toys R Us post-Christmas LEGO discounts, although they'll probably be the first to get the 2012 range and sometimes they have a % off sale to bring down the inflated prices to get the stock moving.

Thanks for that list darkhorse.

We picked up the Kings Carriage and the Mill Village raid last night. Kmart Chermside was sadly lacking so we drove up to Caboolture which is always clearance Lego heaven (although it has been a while since any real discounts have happened at Kmart).

Well I'm a bit bummed about that - after putting back the Kings Carriage Ambush set the other day because it scanned at ~$50, I haven't been able to find one anywhere in the SEVEN(!) Kmart stores 'closest' to me! My Harry Potter-Medieval Fusion display will have to live without a King it seems... :cry_sad:

I wend out yesterday.. but gave K-Mart a miss. Seems to have been a bad decision... :sceptic: I might have to go out now!

I did the exact same thing....D'oh! Really want that King's Carriage, and the Fire Temple is also tempting! Not so keen on the other sets...

Question for my fellow AFOLs -

If I have to choose between the King's Castle at $119 and Black Pearl at $120 - which set is the better value / would people recommend?

(Both current "Aussie Sales")

I've almost finished building the Fire Temple, and it's definitely a more advanced build than I was expecting for one with a minimum age of 8 years. It looks great on display (90% complete) and I'd definitely recommend at $99.

I only own the Black Pearl, which I think looks very good on display, has nice figs, a relatively simple build, some bits of the build are fun but it's not overly challenging. Also there aren't many play features with this set

As for the Castle, I can only comment on my experiences with the previous Castle (Fantasy Era one) which is much bigger than the Kingdoms one, but I found a rather simple and unsatisfying build. One thing with the Kingdoms castle is that it may go together well with the new joust set. In fact if I saw it cheap enough I'd buy it purely for that purpose.

That's probably not overly helpful but at least gives you a bit more info.

Hmm... yup, more conflicted now! I don't have a whole lot of Castle stuff but did get a few Knight's Kingdom II sets a few years ago - including Vladek's Dark Fortress (my only castle), which is a cool set and looks great on display. I was thinking about using the Kings Castle as the opposing 'good' castle in a medieval display. The Black Pearl would be to round out (or uneven out) my 'Ship Shelf' :sceptic: Hmm... *Cue Jeopardy thinking music*

Spotted 6 Imperial Shuttle's (10212) at my local Big W the other day for $448 ea. (Don't know if that's a good price or not, seems a little steep to me..)

Ah, well, now there's a few ways of looking at that. I'm not the best to pick "best set" from an aesthetic point of view, but from value and other views... This is on the assumption of set 7946 vs 4184

Price per piece: 7946 has 933 pieces, 4184 has 804. So if you're looking at raw pieces, 7946 has the edge.

Re-use: Black Pearl can't be rebuilt into something much other than a boat. The hull pieces are similar, but not exactly the same as the Imperial Flagship. So with some modification, you could possibly make a Flagship in different colours. Or some of the other boat sets. It's still a boat :classic:

(a quick look through the parts lists doesn't show a lot of really interesting stuff outside the boat bits and the minifigs)

The King's Castle comes with a lot of the wall panels that are typical with castle sets, but IMO they can be rebuilt into more - churches, wizard's towers, etc. There's also a fair number of grey arch and red roof bits which always have potential for re-use.

Uniqueness: King's Castle doesn't appear to be on Lego.com, so I'm guessing that end of life. I've not seen it at K-Mart or Big W for some time, so that price probably represents the best available unless someone is really slashing prices. And from memory the RRP on it was $160? So $119 would be around 25% off.

BUT, and it's a big but - the replacement for it looks to be 10223. RRP of $180 on AU Lego.com, so hopefully available for $120-$125 at some point in time in the future in sales. 10223 has 1575 pieces, thus representing bigger value in terms of price per piece, while still having a lot of the grey arch / red roof / red-brown wood bits that King's Castle has. It loses the 1x4x5 panels with the rounded windows though, so if you're partial to those, there's 16 of them in King's Castle. IMO, if you had to put together a King's Castle piece by piece off Bricklink in a couple of years, most of the pieces should be easy to aquire. I believe the minifigs may also be across sets, but I'm not good at tracking minifigs.

Black Pearl, thus far, is only set with the black sails and hull pieces in the sizes used by that set. 7029 used black hull with a Viking look, but the remaining ships that have the same hull shapes as Black Pearl are red-brown or dark brown. So if you've got a hankering for a black (old style) ship, this is pretty much your only option. I'm taking a punt and guessing that the minifigs are unique as well. Therefore trying to acquire it piece by piece off Bricklink is probably going to be a) more expensive pieces and b) you may need to get pieces off more suppliers. That last one is worth noting, as more suppliers = more shipping, which drives your costs up.

Personal View: I don't follow PotC enough that I feel the need to collect all the sets. I'm not a collector that needs one of everything. Still, if I could only get one of the two, I'd go the Black Pearl, only because I'd probably rebuild the ship into a bigger, badder generic black pirate ship. Frankly I'd probably try and offload the PotC minifigs. But that's just me. I've always liked the Kingdoms/Castle series from way back, but I'm not disappointed that I've missed out on a cheap castle, because there's always another castle around the corner.

Er, that went on a little longer than I expected. Hope it helped.

Maybe download the instructions for both (easiest to find through brickset) and go through them closely to see what you'd enjoy most. If you could afford both and say didn't like one or the other after building, at those prices you could probably come close to getting your money back even with it being built once.

I'm not sure how much info has been published here (and I assume availability can fit under the broad heading of sales), but here are some details of when sets are due out and what are exclusives in the first half of 2012.

Perhaps I can help, for my bday 2 weeks ago I bought myself the pearl and my sister got me the castle.

The pearl looks fabulous and is a nice set, with some nice figures, but it is not something you can play with really, and worst of all (for me) is it has 6 ports but only a miserable 2 cannons.

The castle is a nice set and impressive when built, it is my first castle set in almost 2 decades and a fitting one to have, it looks nice, has lots of playability if that is your thing, the figures are nice especially the king on his horse.

If you can I would say get both, if you can not then get the castle, while it suffers heavily from repeat builds, it is a more fun set and nicer build.

If figures play a big part, then go with the castle, there are rumours potc will end soon with the release of the dutchman which is bound to have Davy and Jack, more than likely Maccus as well.

Which if true then you might want the pearl so as to have it side by side with the dutchman.

Yeah I probably didn't help did I.

Yeah, thanks Dark Sion, much easier decision now :P

Whilst I'd like to see a PoTC Flying Dutchman, I think you may have it mistaken for the Spongebob version, which is the one coming out next year! That said, it could make an interesting scene - Jack Sparrow facing off against Spongebob and Patrick

I'm pretty sure The Black Pearl is the last of the PoTC sets...

Cheers my fellow AFOL's, I picked up the Mill Village Raid and Pet Shop at great prices

:sweet: Cool! I bought a MVR and the Ninjago set 2263. Thanks reporters!
