I own both of those sets mentioned, but I have only built the Black Pearl. It is a fun build, but I agree with some other posters that it can't be used for much other than a ship. I'm not one for MOCing really, but I would prefer to modify the Pearl a little bit. But it is/can be a beautiful ship for sure.

The castle looks very powerful when completely built (on the box art), so I would only imagine it will be even more overwhelming when built in person. With the exception of ships, I have favored the Kingdoms line over Pirate-themed sets.

I would choose the castle personally, unless you absolutely want the unique figures with the Pearl. I would imagine the Pearl will be available a little longer since it just came out as opposed to the castle being out since 2010 and is now discontinued everywhere basically.

Good luck with your purchase!

I'd buy the castle. (Again... for parts.)

I went to Kmart on Tuesday expecting mark-downs and bargains and was disappointed. After going everywhere else first (where stock was low, and mark-downs were non-existent) at least they had a few mark-downs. Few of the ones mentioned here, but I picked up Ramses Pyramid for $25 & Ramses Revenge for $12. Decent games, and nice parts too. Creationary was half price so I grabbed that too.

Tried again early this morning, very disappointed to see NO Kingdoms so I missed out on the MVRs I'd hoped for :hmpf_bad: - but there was 1 Fire Temple left so I got that and another $100 of Ninjago all marked down. Stock for all other themes is extremely low, so I imagine new sets are VERY close to coming in. Typically, Myer has a dozen or more MVRs at full price.

Gotta be quick with the ~50% clearances: once word gets around, the pro-AFOLs pounce and buy up multiple sets so they can part them out on BrickLink.

New sale:

Myer currently have "Buy 2 get 3rd free" on toys.

(Just a reminder, if you find 3 things you want of equal RRP, this works out to a 33% off sale.)

Well, Ingle Farm Kmart has alot of Kingdom's and Ninjago still at clearance prices !

Still, no sign of 2012 city sets.....lets hope it's not going to be the case like two years ago where stores ran out of Lego for a whole month ! :sadnew:

I've tried searching high and low, but I have never seen any of the tiny polybag "impulse" sets. I am especially interested in the Star Wars ones, and was just wondering if anyone knows how to get hold of them?

Thanks!

Sadly I don't think they ever release the poly bags in Australia, the only place I ever see them here is online sellers, where even before postage they simply aren't worth it.

Darn! I had a feeling that would be the case.

Oh well, I guess I could have fun trying to recreate them in mis-matched colours  ... But Bricklink sounds like a good idea!

Let's hope that TLG will eventually change their position on availability and prices in Aus.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, thanks Dark Sion, much easier decision now :P

Whilst I'd like to see a PoTC Flying Dutchman, I think you may have it mistaken for the Spongebob version, which is the one coming out next year! That said, it could make an interesting scene - Jack Sparrow facing off against Spongebob and Patrick

I'm pretty sure The Black Pearl is the last of the PoTC sets...

The PotC section several people claim they got their info from reps, and one or two seem to be reliable.

If you cant decide maybe get the mill village raid, I got one for $69.

any sign of 2012 sets in ozzy shops yet?

Question for my fellow AFOLs -

If I have to choose between the King's Castle at $119 and Black Pearl at $120 - which set is the better value / would people recommend?

(Both current "Aussie Sales")

personally i would go pearl, great looking ship and in sexc black

Call my friends at Toy Corner in Adelaide they might have or be able to get you the poly bags you seek.

Now, on the other hand till tomorrow, Toyworld at Parafield is doing 20% off all Lego....sorry, only found out this afternoon.

That's great! After all, Lego is all about creating and re-creating based on one's imagination.

TLG will eventually expand to Asia-Pacific after conquering Europe and the States.

That's interesting - I just went and read the thread - a Flying Dutchman would certainly be tempting. I already have the MVR (Amazon sale) - but I agree, that's a good set.

Still can't decide between one, both or neither - though I did wait too long on the BP at DJs and there aren't any left in the state *huh* so don't think I'll be able to score that at better than 20% off now unfortunately. If I didn't already have a huge pile of unbuilt sets staring at me in the living room right now I'd probably have already bought both.

This is why I should never be allowed to have time off from work.

On another note - our local large Kmart is pretty much an official Lego wasteland... within 24 hours of going on clearance. It must be a hotspot for the ruthless "Lego Reseller" - denying poor kiddies the chance to score a Lego bargain with their Christmas money... :sceptic:

Well when I can't decide, I find a coin helps, I also know the kmart my sister went to only had 2 MVR no pearls, and no castle, so with the clearance you better pick soon.

Everyone trust the tiger to bring the news eh....MrToys in Queensland are quoting 14th of January for the 2012 Lego City sets.

They will sell the forest police station for 99 bucks instead of 119.99.

All the sets minus the exclusives in the city range are listed with the pricing appearing to be the same as S@H.

As I'm writing this more information for the MID-YEAR releases - release date 15/8,

4200 Mining 4x4 15.99

4201 Loader & Tipper 24.99

4202 Mining Truck 49.99

4203 Excavator Transport 59.99

4204 The Mine 139.99 (119.99 Mr.Toys price)

No sign of medical centre/hospital....guess I bet it will be an exclusive, plus those mining sets - you know who will get them first right.....Kmart O.K. - again !

Flash - did more digging Dino theme not until 14/9 at Toyworld.....perhaps Target or BigW will get a mid-year toy sale deal eh ?

Stacks of information for next year including Friends, Super Heroes and Monster Fighthers and of course LOTR !

Oh, yeah Sponge Bob looks like a general release this year 14/7 and LOTR with Star Wars 14/6.

Black Pearl FTW!

There will always be another castle - and the current one wouldn't hold its own when pitted against Vladek's Dark Fortress IMHO - but I doubt there will be another black hulled, black sailed pirate ship.

I'll shut up now.

No offense to the Aussie retailers, but I hope they keep struggling at least a bit and continue with the heavy discounting. Now that we're starting to see the RRP's on upcoming sets it looks like for whatever reason Lego is about to become way to overpriced for my liking locally.

If you aren't sure what I mean, LT spotted that Mr Toys Toyworld has a whole bunch of the upcoming 2012 sets on their site now, and the prices are kind of horrid. Both the SW and LoTR sets they have listed seem to be way out of the current price ranges per set size to me.

PS: For anyone in QLD who can make it to Westfield Helensvale, K-Mart still had 5 of the MVR there at $69, along with about 6 escape from dragons prison, and a whole bunch of blacksmith attacks ( although these last where way down the end with the Duplo for some reason ). That was yesterday afternoon anyway. Hopefully they're all or mostly still there for those interested.

edit: just realised they also had the upcoming monster hunters on Mr Toys, and the prices seem much more in line with what we're used too, maybe its just the licensed themes copping the price rise :sceptic:

Hey Belchher,

I had a look through the Toyworld prices that have been posted regarding upcoming sets...and have to agree the Star Wars and Lord of The Rings look particularly nasty. Although I must admit I have found Toy World to be consistently at the upper end of the price range but still it is not a good sign for us in Oz.

I should also add it looks like you are from Brisbane (as am I) and wondered if you have checked out the Brisbane Lego Train Group and website? We always welcome new members and feel free to contact me if you want to meet up and swap lego tales....I for one am always on the lookout for building tips and new lego friends :) We can also commiserate on pricing :(

My sources have indicated that the sets might also be marked up on MrToy's website....the largest LOTR set should be around 199 not 239.

I was also told mid-year release information is confidential so someone there might get into trouble with a particular toy company.

Hopefully you're right, LT, but its certainly not the first time Mr T has done this with upcoming Lego products. For those who haven't seen the Mr Toys site before, those release dates, while usually fairly accurate, don't allow for TLGs annoying habbit of staggered releases, so a fair amount of those products will most likely show up a few months before those dates in Target, K-Mart or Big W.

@Brickton - Yeah, I've thought about BLTG, but between being on the GC and having almost zero free time due to family stuff at the moment I'd almost never be able to get to any meets. Hopefully some time this year that will change.

Anyway, I need to go sneak off from the wife to k-mart and see if there's any MVR's left, I'm trying to psyche myself into buying a few to part out/resell on bricklink to help cover this expensive habit, although I'm still not sure I can get over the ( probably silly ) slightly "dirty" feeling if I do that

Posted

well i won't add to the disappointment to the prices listed on mr T site, but it is interesting that the tie fighter is $20 cheaper than the x-wing

looks like i will be looking elsewhere to get my jabba's palace...
