2012 Star Wars have arrived in Melbourne! Pakenham Big W to be precise. Geonisian Cannon, Droid Escape, both battle packs and the planet sets all plentiful. Approximately $38, $18 and $14 respectively. Don't mind me while I go admire the new Geonisians ;)

Great news been hanging out for this, will check out nearest Big W today!

So Star Wars 2012 is exclusive to BigW?

No, they've just stocked it first. It's not meant to be out until next month officially I believe

First big Lego sale of the year.....Target 20% off ! :excited:

Though the fire plane is only 59 bucks and Destiny's Bounty is only 99 bucks which are more than that 20%.....I feel a layby coming on at my local Target !

Sale starts on the 25th and finishes on the 1st of next month.....enjoy my fellow Lego-maniacs ! :smug:

More exciting news from Pakenham! I can't quite believe I just wrote that...

Apparently the new Star Wars planet sets are already ON SALE! Were $14.64, now $13.42! So if anyone in Melbourne feels like a drive down the Monash... oh who am I kidding, you'd probably spend more on gas getting out here than the saving.

Although I am still unsure about how these sets are here and not reportedly anywhere else yet? Big W Pakenham is barely 2 months old though... perhaps this is a rookie error by the toy department manager that they are out so soon??

I thought I'd attach some pictures, although I am completely unsure if I am attaching them right :sceptic: might be making my own rookie error

Great news, thanks for posting!

Yes, I think those sets were intended for February so they are indeed a bit early. Hope it's not just that Big W. I'd really like the planets, but I think I'll wait until there's a Sydney confirmation before venturing out. As you say, a rookie manager could have jumped the gun.

I thought for a moment from your photo they had boxes Series 2 minifigs behind them! If that were the case, the store would be more crowded with AFOLs than Brickvention. (Well, maybe Series 1 would do that.)

I spotted the planets (and battle packs) at Big W TTP (Adelaide) on the weekend, so it's not just that Big W. Not quite a Sydney spotting, but if Adelaide has it, surely Sydney does too :classic:

Kmart doesn't want to be left out....

Lego city tipper truck, dirt bike transport, car and camper, garbage truck 25 bucks.

Ninjago Jay's Storm Fighter 25 bucks also.

Ninjago training set 24 bucks.

Mini-creator sets 7 dollars, creator plane and motorbike 25 bucks each.....gee a lot for 25 bucks eh ?

Edit - two page spread in the BigW catalogue has only their normal selling prices....trying to make people think they could be getting a bargain.

I can confirm that some of the SW sets are at BigW in Campbelltown (NSW). They only had the Naboo and Tattooine planets, both Battle Packs and the Geonosian set. So they should be in other BigW stores around Sydney.

Thanks for the confo, and based on that I ducked into Miranda this morning.

Interesting situation: of the three planets, Big W also had only two, but they were Naboo and the Death Star, plenty of each, at the sale price. But up the escalators at Toys R Us, they had ONLY Tatooine! (At full RRP of $15.99.)

It's almost as if the LEGO truck arrived yesterday and the black shirts took two planets to Big W and one planet to Toys R Us.

I can't imagine a reason other than some sort of preferential deal? Sounds anti-competitive to me.

Well, stuff them! I'm not buying any. Seeing them in the flesh, they look like less like LEGO and more like overpriced Christmas tree baubles anyway.

I was there on the week end and I saw all three planet sets. I bought a death star from there on Saturday. Maybe I should have picked up more. Looks like this will be the popular one to get. Also got the droid escape while I was there as its an awesome set.

Went in first thing to Canberra City Target today and they had all the new SW sets at 20% off excluding the battle packs and the Geonnesian Cannon. I grabbed a Tie Fighter and Droid Escape for building over the holiday tomorrow!

I just noticed on the Mr Toys Toyworld site that they have some of the new Technic sets and prices listed, although not for sale yet:

  • 9392 Quad Bike - Due 15/4 - $34.99
  • 9394 Jet Plane - Due 15/4 - $69.99
  • 9395 Pick-up Tow Truck - Due 15/4 - $89.99 (save $10.00)
  • 9397 Logging Truck - Due 15/4 - $169.00 (save $20.99)

They also have the 2012H2 sets listed:

  • 9396 Helicopter - Due 14/9 - $119.00 (save 20.99)
  • 9398 4x4 Crawler - Due 14/9 - $269.00 (save 20.99)
    - This set may have a new type of motor for drive, and a new servo motor for steering, as reported here.
  • 9393 Tractor - Due 14/9 - $49.99
    - We haven't seen photos of this set yet, although this price point suggests that it will have 300-400 pieces, and one or two functions - probably steering and power-take-off (PTO), perhaps with some sort or farming implement attached to the rear.
    - Edit - first pic over at Technic Bricks ('The green spot... between the Jet Plan and the Qaud Bike, in the picture.')

There are no images or further details, and the 9391 Tracked Crane isn't listed either.

Brickset lists all of the 2012 Technic sets that we know about so far (link).

Time to start saving some money

To those in Adelaide, Target Newton has one Alien Defense HQ on the top shelf for $99.20 after the 20% off sale. If you're thinking of waiting to buy this set, grab it now as it's the only AC one not in this year's catalogue.

PS the box is a little rough but not terrible.

I went past Target Melbourne CBD Bourke St today. They had the new 9493 X-Wing, 9492 TIE fighter, 9490 Droid Escape, and the 3 Planet sets. They may have had others, but I wasn't looking that hard. I didn't take notice of the prices, except the Planet sets which are $16 ($12.80 with 20% off).

Myer Melbourne Bourke St had 3843 Ramses Pyramid reduced to $22 (from $39.95), and until the 29th of Jan, they have the 3 for 2 deal, so you can get 3 of these for $44 – that's a saving of about 63%. And yes, both deals work together – I bought 3 myself. They are a good way to get tan baseplates, plus a variety of other tan pieces.

I just got an email from Lego stating that the 10230 Mini Modulars are now available. You have to be a VIP member to get this exclusive, and you have to be logged in to see the page (otherwise you just get redirected back to the S@H homepage).

10230-1.jpg

It is selling for AU$99.99, which I think is cheaper than the original reported price of AU119.99 (link). Of course you have to add shipping to that price too (an extra AU$30 for orders AU$100 and under). So AU$129.99 for a set with 1356 pieces, which still falls into the 10c/brick price range. Keep in mind that most of the pieces are small though (eg. there are 244 1x1 plates of various colours, and lots of other small plates, tiles and bricks - Bricklink Inventory).

Since I was in my dark-ages when the full-size modulars started to be released, and I can't justify buying them all off Bricklink/ebay now, I have ordered this set for myself as an alternative to the real (full-size) sets. Now I just have to wait the estimated 13 business days for delivery...

20% off Lego at Target, has SW planet sets, 9490 Droid Escape, 9492 TIE Fighter, 9493 X-Wing Fighter and the rare 7868 Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter

Big W has 9491 Geonosian Canon, 9490 Droid Escape, 9489 Endor Rebel & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack

Surprisingly no sign of the 9488 Elite Clone Trooper & Commando Droid Battle Pack as of yet

Just been to Target for their 20% off sale and picked up the garbage truck and droid escape. no wonder the droid escape didn't have a price tag as it was 31.20, that's 40 retail. A total rort considering both sets are 20US and the garbage truck is AU29. Why the extra$10?

It's called the OZ Lego Tax, seriously i don't buy from retail unless there is a minimum of 30% off

I know our prices are higher and I accept that, just querying the extra $10 on the Star Wars set when US rrps are both the same.

Licensed sets tend to be more expensive outside the US.
