jonwil Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 No LOTR on shelf Perth CBD. New Star Wars was out though.
eli_77 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 No LOTR or new Star Wars at Roselands Sydney either. Not happy Jan!
feuerbogen Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Does anyone know if the buy 2 get 1 free at Myers is on tomorrow as well?
jonwil Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Nothing new at all at MYER in Carousel. The flyer I saw said clearly that its a "one day only" sale. Also, assuming the catalog prices someone posted earlier are accurate, it looks like MYER has deliberately put the Helms Deep set in the catalog at $179 so they dont have to sell it at the lower price of 20% off (which would make it about 159) Its looking more and more like the retailers in this country dont actually WANT our LEGO business and WANT us to buy from overseas. (even K-Mart and Big W who spend massive amounts of advertising dollars across all forms of media talking about how their prices are so cheap are giving much less of a discount vs RRP than they used to)
Brickmamba Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Was at Southland VIC today, no LotR or 2nd wave SW

(even K-Mart and Big W who spend massive amounts of advertising dollars across all forms of media talking about how their prices are so cheap are giving much less of a discount vs RRP than they used to) The major retailers are realising that all that money spent on national advertising isn't making them back the money they were hoping for with the massive discounts they've been giving. LEGO may have been used as loss leaders in the past??

LEGO may have been used as loss leaders in the past?? I don't know, It is so frustrating when u see the yanks going on about lego sets that cost less than half what we pay, it makes me think that maybe the dude that owns TLG group should sell up it should become a corporate company pty ltd or whatever it is I am not business minded enough to know the exact term. Maybe then they will start acting like a company that actually has regard for fans THAT DONT LIVE IN AMERICA and stop ripping the rest of the world off to prop up their american market share. Although maybe then the quality will drop and the products that we love will become distant memories so who knows..(end rant)
pinioncorp Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 A friend of mine went to Myer (Chadstone for those of you playing at home) looking for the exclusives and while he was there one of the staff came out saying that the stock on the shelves wasn't for sale until the major sale next month, and she took them off the customers who had them in their trolleys! Poor customer service if you ask me. Myer Knox was happy to sell me three Helm's Deeps though.
jonwil Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Ultimately MYER doesn't want to sell these sets now for several reasons: 1.Selling them now wont make them as much profit on each item as they will get during the big catalog sale. 2.If they sell them now, they may not have as many (or any at all) for the big catalog sale (bad in terms of getting people through the doors and potentially also bad if having no stock gets them in trouble with the ACCC somehow for having a catalog but no stock to back it up because its all been sold) It doesn't make business sense to have a big catalog sale and then sell all the stock before the sale even starts. There may also be (for some of the items) "street dates" put on the sale of some of the product by LEGO (or in the case of LOTR by Warner)
TheMaster Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Has anyone seen any Kingdoms sets still at a retailer? I still need to buy a couple to complete my collection. Cheers
lightningtiger Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Has anyone seen any Kingdoms sets still at a retailer? I still need to buy a couple to complete my collection. Cheers Contact Toy Corner I know that they have the sets from last year.

Cheers If you wait there be more Death Stars that you can poke a stick at as they will be available at most of the independent Lego retailers....i.e. Toyworld, Toy Corner, Galaxy Toys, etc.,. (though the wait might be a few months away) Edited May 27, 2012 by lightningtiger

Artanis I Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 No new SW, but I wandered on down to Myer on Saturday and picked up some LOTR as part of the 3for2 sale... these sets are pretty darn good . They had the VW Kombi too, but I passed on that. Helm's Deep is priced at $199, not $169. Although it's a bit disappointing, it's less than we were first told it would be ($230) and better than the (US price x 1.6 -> 1.75) general rule . Weathertop at AU$89 is excellent compared to the US$59 , but the wall set at AU$59 compared to US$29 is disappointing . Just to make you more jealous if you missed out, an error at the counter caused my Helm's Deep set to be scanned as Weathertop ... in the end I got $560 of Lego off the shelf for @$300 . Didn't realise until I got home though.

Try amazon France, Spain or Italy. The prices are good and delivery fast. I bought mine from amazon France and it was delivered in 5 days and in better condition than some parcels delivered within Australia. The Lego picture outer box has 4 boxes inside it which protect it from crushing pretty well. One thing to keep in mind is you'll pay less than $400AUD for an import which is still all in English. When they are available in Australia they will be $699.00 I am happy with mine.

I think Galaxy Toys on Goodwood Road might have one, but the price I'm not sure about at all....most likely be an imported one.

There is a specific Thread for this and I for one don't want to see this one closed down because people are determined to talk about the difference in price online & overseas etc... Please continue your conversation in that Thread. As for Myer's sale, I wasn't able to find LOTR in Sydney, I was going to ask if they had any out the back but then I also didn't want to put myself in the position of buying 3 helms deep to get the maximum discount! Although now I hear about their possible glitch, maybe I wish I had tried.
jonwil Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I think the $169 price is the price it will be sold at in the big MYER catalog sale. If that's true, its a rip-off given that as that's more expensive than it would be if it was sold under the general 20% off. You would be stupid to buy anything at MYER that isn't at least 20% off RRP given how frequently they seem to be having sales these days.

Yes but no doubt Myer One card holders will get an additional 10% off which will put it down below the 20% off RRP cost. I was at Myer Belconnen today and they were unloading the new Star Wars sets. They looked great but not at RRP. Jabba's Palace was $199 which seems a bit rough given it is only 700+ pieces whereas Helm's Deep is 1300+ for the same RRP, although I'll admit it didn't seem to contain too much "Billund Air" when I picked it up. My May 4 Shop@Home order is looking much more economical now that the bidding on my TC-14 minifig on Ebay is up over $30. I can't believe people are willing to pay so much for 3 pieces of crappy Chinese plastic depciting an extremely minor character. Can't complain though.
LuxorV Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Please everybody, try to keep this thread on the Aussie sales topic only. Sales and offers, as well as general shopping advice, from other Countries should remain in the Latest updates on LEGO set sales thread. Thank you.

Although now I hear about their possible glitch, maybe I wish I had tried. I believe it was the operator's error, as when I tried to leave the building the alarm went off. Lucky the girl at the door didn't bother to check the docket, she just looked in the bags to see if... actually I don't know what she was looking for! She just said "no manchester in there? Just toys? Should be right" as I had no idea he hadn't scanned properly, I never saw the docket until I got home. That would've been really embarrassing to show me up as a thief when not even my fault!
lightningtiger Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 At Myers TTP, no LOTR out yet but stacks of new SW !
