lightningtiger Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I would write to the company first instead of going straight to consumer affairs. :-) True, but it's best find out where you stand on returns or refunds.
shawn_low Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 True, but it's best find out where you stand on returns or refunds. Here's the Mighty Ape policy. I believe you can return items for a refund or exchange: http://www.mightyape.com.au/help/Policies-Terms-Conditions/8/Returns-Policy/149/ The item I ordered was damaged in transit If your item was damaged between leaving the Mighty Ape warehouse and arriving at your delivery address you will receive a full refund or replacement. You will be required to return the item to Mighty Ape's distribution centre in Australia, or in some circumstances you may be required to photograph the damaged item. If you return an item you will not incur any shipping or handling fees.
Slobey Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) I recieved my first Mighty Ape order today 1x Orc Forge & 1 x Barrel Escape both were packed in a sturdy box and arrived unscathed. There was no air cell or scrunched up paper filling the voids though to stop them moving around. My guess is if it is a small-medium set that is easily packed in a box you'l be okay any large set they don't know how to package it effectively.... Edited January 8, 2013 by Slobey
DrWeevil Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Sorry I'm not quoting posts but it won't work on my Win8 Mobile IE for some reason. I have indeed sent a strongly worded letter to their customer service department - I received the usual generated receipt and a statement that they're understaffed so I'm yet to receive a reply. I will keep you updated on what they're like to deal with!

I will keep you updated on what they're like to deal with! I've found them friendly to deal with but slow to respond to emails. Average turnaround for emails is 1-2 days from experience.
DrWeevil Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Thanks Shawn foe posting that info! I'll wait and see what they say. I work around 80 hours every week (sad but true) and I am never free when the APO is open so don't want to have to send it back. Add my time and hassle onto that and there goes any saving I thought I'd found! I'm not sure how they'd be able to sell it to anyone else, especially if I send it back in the same packaging I received it in!
Notorious Guf Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Sorry I'm not quoting posts but it won't work on my Win8 Mobile IE for some reason. I have indeed sent a strongly worded letter to their customer service department - I received the usual generated receipt and a statement that they're understaffed so I'm yet to receive a reply. I will keep you updated on what they're like to deal with! I find it incredible that companies will use the "Sorry, we are understaffed" line. Get More Staff then, don't make it your customers problem! I also don't understand why it can take 48hours for a response from online stores, if you walked into a shop, you'd be peeved if you had to wait 10 minutes for assistance, why is it acceptable to wait 48 hours between responses, especially when the first one rarely fixes the problem. More on Topic, finally picked up some S9 Minifigures today :D
Alien24 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Someone was asking about Mighty Ape: I just received my Haunted House set - supposedly sent on 31st December. The box has significant flattening damage - no holes but almost as bad - there's no way I could give it as a gift (as was my intention). Severely disappointed - for a $200 purchase sent only from Qld it was disgusting. The box was wrapped only in thin flimsy corrugated cardboard that offered no protection whatsoever. Received my haunted house from Mighty Ape today too... I see what you mean by flimsy corrugated cardboard! Luckily the box has only very slight flatten damage and is in pretty good condition otherwise...
Darth Malgus Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Picked up Mia's magic show from a toy store in Elsternwick. They also had the city fire truck, cement mixer the museum police and the little atv set there. They had most of the friends, although no swimming pool; Karate, soccer, pet salon, jet ski, foal were there though.
jonwil Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I envy all you lucky people in the eastern states finding all sorts of 2013 product on the shelves (Friends, City etc). Here in WA the shelves of all the retailers I have been to since returning from QLD are as good as empty.
MrWatson193 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Myers and Big W at Doncaster, VIC, both have Legends of Chima stock fresh on the shelves, in addition to new Friends, new Ninjago and the City theme Museum Heist set. The lovely lady stocking the shelves said that LEGO Superheroes would be coming later this month. Last time I checked, a week ago, both Northland and Doncaster Toys-R-Us had Series 9 Collectable Minifigs.
jonwil Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 MYER in Karrinyup and MYER in Perth both have restocked now with 2013 product (Friends, Chima, City, the blue and pink suitcase sets, NinjaGo, Series 9 etc) Perth had a bunch of carts sitting there with LEGO on them ready to go on the shelves and about a dozen boxes of Series 9. Still need release dates for Creator, the rest of the City stuff (e.g. fire station, high speed chase), and Ninja Turtles :)
lostdriveway Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Anyone know when the 20% off Toys at DJ's finishes?
Alien24 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Get second toy 50% off when you purchase 2 toys on Saturday at Myer... Anyone wanna meet me at TTP Myers?
shawn_low Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Get second toy 50% off when you purchase 2 toys on Saturday at Myer... Anyone wanna meet me at TTP Myers? Was just about to post this but you beat me to it! So if you get two of the same items, you get 25% off each. Nice!
jonwil Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Can you use this multiple times (i.e. buy 2 toys then buy 2 more then buy 2 more)? If so, it would be a great time to stock up on Series 9 :)

shawn_low Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Well, I heard from IQ Toys about their Haunted House listed for $175. They told me my order would not go through as Lego has discontinued the line and they can't get more from the distributor. Money would be refunded. Bummer. On another note, those looking for local sales on Gumtree, here's another possible scam to beware of. I dub it the 'courier COD bait and switch';. Late last year, a seller posted on Gumtree selling a couple of Lego sets. Death Star, Super Star Destroyer, Cars, City Mine. I emailed and seller (never gave me a name or a number) said he/she would only ship via courier COD. I asked for a pick-up and he/she said they work 80 hours a week and am not home for pick up. Prices were reasonable and it seemed safe enough via courier. After a few weeks, we finally arranged for a delivery. I ordered the Death Star 10188 for $420. Same price as Amazon shipped but figured it was local so... This morning, a guy turns up. Says he's from Couriers Plus and shows some dodgy paperwork (no seller name or address). The company delivery sheet had no contact number. Only a business name and address. So courier was paid and walks off. I lift the box and it feels too light. Opened it up and it was the Cars and City Mine set. Worth $150 but I gave the courier $420. Chased after the courier (he parked round the corner and drove a Holden not a van) and he umm and ahhed and said I already signed for it. I refused to let it go and said it labelled as Star Wars but I didn't receive it. He couldn't give me the sellers name for 'privacy reasons'. Fair enough. He tried to call the 'depot' but couldn't get through. Couldn't give me a number to call either. Throughout, he said various things that contradicted each other (Oh I'm in a rush, have other deliveries to make. Then later on, he said, Oh, this is my last delivery for the morning). In the end, I refused the delivery and insisted on my money back. Courier gave it back and went off. I did a Google search on the company and found no telephone number and only an ABN and a business address (at a residence: 7 Lucerne St, Campbellfield, Vic 3061). I emailed the seller who said that it was a mix up and my Death Star was shipped to the wrong address and it was the courier's fault and the other receiving party doesn't want to own up etc. He/she was out of pocket. Despite me asking for him/her to call me throughout, there was no phone call. Anyway, I'll dig up the ad on Gumtree and post it here. Does anyone know the company Couriers Plus?
