DarthSion Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Yeah no worries mate, go figure huh, first time in 2 years i have had a problem with foxit, lucky too didn't even realise i still had adobe. What are you supposed to put on the envelope, one part says BigW July catalogue special offer, then further down it says legoclub Australia.
Patty Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Technic Crane Truck 8258 and Snow Groomer 8263 are out on S@H!! Damn... very expensive crane truck... Anyone know if these sets will be available from local stores? ToysRUs?
natelite Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Hi Guys, Just a question do you think the xxl box is really worth it as from the brick list it mostly consists of 2x2 bricks. thx piece count it is. it's great for the slopes as you get lots in different colors. the 2x2 bricks though really kill the deal. i hate 2x2 and 2x4 bricks. i need lots of 1x2 or 1x4 bricks since you don't really build with 2x2 unless you are making a bunker.
I Scream Clone Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 piece count it is. it's great for the slopes as you get lots in different colors. the 2x2 bricks though really kill the deal.i hate 2x2 and 2x4 bricks. i need lots of 1x2 or 1x4 bricks since you don't really build with 2x2 unless you are making a bunker. I still think the XXL box is a great deal, all those 2 x 2s etc can be used for internal strengthening of mountains etc (for my MOCs anyway) If I wasn't saving my hard earned to go to Brickworld 2010, I would get one for sure.
I Scream Clone Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I hope anyone who wanted the Carousel snapped it up at $299, as its now $399
Svelte Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I still think the XXL box is a great deal, all those 2 x 2s etc can be used for internal strengthening of mountains etc (for my MOCs anyway) I kind of agree with natelite about the 2x2 bricks, if you're doing modular houses or whatever, they're kind of hard to use. Still, $63 when it's list price at S@H is $130 is hard to refuse if you need or want basic bricks. I hope anyone who wanted the Carousel snapped it up at $299, as its now $399 Your poor blocked sinuses have really got to you, we posted that yesterday! This thread moves too fast at this time of year

jonwil Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 (edited) I have a report that the Space police impulse sets are in at Big W. I called every store I can get to but no luck, half of them didn't know what I was talking about and the other half thought I wanted the Squidman Escape and not the 2 small impulse sets. Anyone know of a code or item or something that Big W people would be more likely to recognize and understand? Edited July 3, 2009 by jonwil

You can always quote set numbers, 8399 K9-Bot and 8400 Space Speeder. Going through the shelves of my local Target I noticed they had the spongebob rocket ship there, which I don't think was in the catalogue as it was part of last year's line, this is a pretty difficult to find set (although I'm sure its potential future value has decreased since the release of the spongebob magnet set with the same minifigs).
Svelte Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I did quote the set numbers but that didnt help. I haven't seen or heard anything that suggests they have arrived in any store. You may just have to be patient. If you are really that desperate and can't wait, I advise you to buy them off Bricklink or S@H itself, although BL shipping would probably be cheaper for such small items. Rest assured, you have all of us in this thread well primed, if we so much as sniff a SP3 Impulse in our vicinity we will let you know
jonwil Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I have confirmation from a friend who bought both from a Big W store (one I cant get to myself).
Maverick Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Just a heads up. I haventr been able to spot any venators or Ywings at Big W in melbourne. (went to 2 of them today) So if your interested in one should get crakin' I myself will be going searching tommorow. If any one spots any leave a post to help others Happy hunting
DarthSion Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Scored an AT-OT at Kmart, boy they know how to run a toy sale, they had 2 registers speically set up for the lay-by, no need to pick up the item just go and tell them, then they give you a card with the info on it. Someone from BigW should go to Kmart and see how its done. Sucks though how Kmart wouldnt also let me lay-by the Sep Shuttle with the AT-OT.

I think you have this the wrong way around, Kmart will be heading over to BigW to see just how much they lost in sales yesterday The only thing Kmart had yesterday was more staff than customers I'm sure Kmart will bring back there No-Deposit Layby next year. You wouldn't have been able to Layby your Sep Shuttle with your AT-OT as it is a Xmas layby and they are ordering the stock for these after they know how many they have sold to layby.

Not topic related, but today my cousins got given an old Studio promotional set by a shop owner (Heaven knows where he got them) and they got me an extra one. That doesn't happen everyday. I'm not so sure, and it's too early to tell. With K-Marts solution you can turn up any day for the next two weeks so there's no hurry. For BigW you have to be there ASAP. All BigW may have won is an expensive storage bill...
MinifigHQ Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 There were a couple left at my local Big W after I got mine.Kmart got stung a couple of years ago with no deposit which is why they aren't doing it now (stung to the tune of ~$10 mil as they had unclaimed laybys and the toys were sold below cost). My Kmart was dead too. Walked straight up to put a layby on without a wait (unlike Big W where I didn't even bother waiting) The wind Turbine #7747 was up on shop at home for $79.99, so BigW certainly gave a good discount on this set. Would $10million make such a big difference in the overall scheme of things?, How many Kmarts are Australia wide 200ish? That would only be a loss of around 50K per store, that would be nothing compared to the sales they have lost. How much in sales they lost to BigW is the bigger question there was no comparison between the 2, BigW had customers all day long and Kmart had empty checkouts.
Svelte Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm not so sure, and it's too early to tell. With K-Marts solution you can turn up any day for the next two weeks so there's no hurry. For BigW you have to be there ASAP. All BigW may have won is an expensive storage bill... K-Mart is also smartly doing the selective layby to avoid having a whole lot of short-term merchandise like all the Transformers 2 toys suddenly coming back onto shelves in 6 months times when people decide they're no longer interested. It's not all about Lego! I went to my closest Big W (not really close, it takes an hour to get there) and saw plenty of Midi Falcons & Venators, but no Y-Wings (which had been in stock a few days previously). SP3 also seemed to sell well - apart from multiples of the Galactic Enforcer, there was only one copy of each of the smaller sets on the shelf, some hidden away. Heaps of Wind Turbine Transports as well. There is probably more pressure for people to shop quickly at Big W as they tend to do the big sale now, but only discount very intermittently during the rest of the year - so if you miss out now you don't get as much chance to get things cheap compared to K-Mart and Target, which have 15-20% off every other week. K-Mart still didn't seem busy today. At one a lot of the SW stuff had gone, but at another I did manage to pick up the last 2 Separatist Shuttles
YG-49 Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 When I went to Big W on the first day of the sales, and I was there early, (9-10am) and there were no Wind Turbines! Well, there might have been 1.
DarthSion Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm sorry but just No, yeah sure It cost me 40 bucks to lay-by the AT-OT, my sister was in BigW yesterday at Calamvale, a small shop, 2 and a half hour wait, Garden City was 4 hours, Browns Plains was 6 hour wait to lay-by. Michelle called CV today, still and hour minimum wait, she went to Kmart at Red Bank, no one waiting spent 2 minutes ordering it and that's it. Then lets face it, i bet at least 1/4 of BigW stuff will not be picked up/paid for, by at least making people put a deposit on at Kmart they are more likely to have people not pay for it. The Sep shuttle was not listed as an Xmas lay-by that's why. And yes Siegfried is right, BigW you had to be in there as soon as the doors open or miss out, the woman told my sister if i changed my mind and wanted to also get the DS (please Darwin let me win some money) i could go in and order it any day i want, even if it was 1 minute before they close on the 15th, and i am guaranteed one, just for the simple reason i cant have the AT-OT until 1.12.09. Whats not fair YG-49

That's pretty much right. Don't forget that Big W also have to transport those toys, store them and then transport them back to the store (heaps have gone clearance by Xmas) I agree with above how Kmart have the better set up this year. By ordering, they don't have excess stock (which has always been a problem), there aren't any crowds and it's bloody easy to layby and you know exactly what you are getting. I will have to remember to go in and layby the AT-OT...I just hope tax money comes in soon :P Edited July 3, 2009 by xNick
