Darth_Legois Posted July 4, 2009 Author Posted July 4, 2009 Ok so I went to BigW yesterday and got Hyperspeed Pursuit (I dont have time to build it yet. ) Freeze Ray Frenzy - Built this yesterday, good little set. Galactic Enforcer (Lay-by) All the smaller sets were pretty much gone, Infact the freezeray frenzy I got was the last one and it was behind some bigger sets. There were still about x5 most of the bigger sets.
MinifigHQ Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I'm sorry but just No, yeah sure It cost me 40 bucks to lay-by the AT-OT, my sister was in BigW yesterday at Calamvale, a small shop, 2 and a half hour wait, Garden City was 4 hours, Browns Plains was 6 hour wait to lay-by.Michelle called CV today, still and hour minimum wait, she went to Kmart at Red Bank, no one waiting spent 2 minutes ordering it and that's it. Then lets face it, i bet at least 1/4 of BigW stuff will not be picked up/paid for, by at least making people put a deposit on at Kmart they are more likely to have people not pay for it. The Sep shuttle was not listed as an Xmas lay-by that's why. And yes Siegfried is right, BigW you had to be in there as soon as the doors open or miss out, the woman told my sister if i changed my mind and wanted to also get the DS (please Darwin let me win some money) i could go in and order it any day i want, even if it was 1 minute before they close on the 15th, and i am guaranteed one, just for the simple reason i cant have the AT-OT until 1.12.09. Whats not fair YG-49 So here's what your saying, Bigw had cues for hours and that means they had customers wanting items. Kmart had a system where you could order your item directly from the counter for xmas, 2 Lego items would you be so supportive of Kmart if they did not offer this like every other year on the Exclusive sets to them. BigW also offered this on some of there larger items and to be picky you were able to order selected Lego items, you didnt have to be first in this is not the case (the ones that can be ordered in, did anyone ask to order Lego in? BigW had a information desk where you were able to do this.) BigW will be requiring a fortnightly repayment or the item will be returned to the floor, in the case of the larger items they just wont be ordered in for xmas, they don't sit in the shop or out back (no fee for storage if its not ordered in). Not only were the cues at BigW layby long, but the checkouts were full as well Like you said a few pages back why go to Kmart unless you want an exclusive, Obviously a LOT of people agreed with you and took there business to BigW That's pretty much right. Don't forget that Big W also have to transport those toys, store them and then transport them back to the store (heaps have gone clearance by Xmas) Not true, once there at the store that's where they stay, the larger items that you are able to order also had to have a Deposit, so the chance of these items being cancelled is reduced. These items are not ordered in until later in the year.
natelite Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 i went to kmart to kinda see what is left after two days. surprise, surprise....everything is still there (except death star... maybe only available for layby?) anyway i was pleasantly surprised to see the AT-OT was cut a further $50! i bought it for $299. didn't think to actually buy it because of the rip off pricing but for $299... it's pretty good so i grabbed it. in case it's not national, this special pricing was from the chatswood store. since kmart price match, you might get lucky if you get them to call up the chatswood store to price match! other than that, no special pricing on the other sets. anyone else spotted cheaper than advertised sets elsewhere?
YG-49 Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) Whats not fair YG-49 That they wouldn't let you lay-by the Sep Shuttle with the AT-OT but I didn't realise it wasn't X-mas lay-by. So the City Tow Truck is for X-Mas lay-by but the Shuttle isn't? FAIL! Edited July 4, 2009 by YG-49
TheDarkness Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 It does seem odd that they wouldn't let you layby the shuttle when I saw $20 trucks with Xmas layby tags attached. Lego doesn't seem to be flying off the shelf at my local store just yet, but the Death Star has resurfaced. No more Republic Tanks though for me to snap up :(
natelite Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 to answer svelte's question, the chatswood target (and most likely macquarie center target as well) seems to be stocked up in MMV, pirates and spongebob sets. guess it's only waiting until jul 23 now! spongebob sets include the new bikini bottom, krusty krab, sandy's rocketship and the bikini express bus. TRU seems to have done the opposite of other stores and has raised its prices. the solar sailer is now $115, up from $99. they aren't selling anyway ever since the magnet set came out.

Aww damnit, Thats stuipid $100 was way to much but $115!?! My kmart had no Deathstars but plenty of everything else except the heli transport. (only 2 left I think)
TheDarkness Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Hmm, you mean the $20 Tow Trucks that I just FAILed before? No I meant normal toys

Is the magnet set available in Aus? I would have thought that as long as it wasn't here, some idiots would be still willing to fork out this crazy amount of money... It's sad to see TRU always abuse the sales of their exclusives... Look how Target is doing it, it's taking its (already well-priced) exclusive and making it cheaper!

Look how Target is doing it, it's taking its (already well-priced) exclusive and making it cheaper! Got to agree with your comment on TrU, they really do extort their exclusive status, good too see Targert doing the right thing. The other stores also seem to run good discounts with the exclusives. I'm fearing that the Home One, although its come out at a reasonable $180 at LEGO, TrU will add $10 - 20 to it. I also think they are shifty with stock at sales. The exclusive Power Miner set was well stocked at the TrU I go to, then it went on sale and they were "Sold out", then I go back the day after the sale ends and there are at least a dozen of them back on the shelves.
DarthSion Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) MinifigHQ, you win i got better things to do than argue over such a stupid topic. YG-49 yes i know, go figure. Aww damnit, Thats stuipid $100 was way to much but $115!?! My kmart had no Deathstars but plenty of everything else except the heli transport. (only 2 left I think) That's because by now most have sold, only way is to lay-by. Edited July 5, 2009 by DarthSion

mm88 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 by the way, did anyone see CITY police station set 7744 at toysrus in MELB? i am not in australia so i had to enlist my fren in melb to help me purchase it.if i can narrow down the search, i wouldnt feel soooo bad.

I went out yesterday but there was nothing special left at our K-Mart; I ended up getting 5974 Galactic Enforcer in BigW. There was loads of those left as they were stupidly stocked in outdoor, and BigW sales are rare. (It's largely a good set but the rear bike/engines are a nonsense idea.)

I saw a couple of these at my local Kmart on Thursday night. They were all gone on Saturday though - I was actually surprised they lasted until the sale. If I didn't have it already I would've picked it up for full RRP on Wednesday.
I Scream Clone Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I dropped into my one and only Target. Even though sales don't start for a while there was no sign of MMVillage or Pirates there.
natelite Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 for those of you worried about the sale... don't. i went to macquarie centre's big w spoke to a bigw asst mgr and he was telling me they restock when sold out. those sets currently in the toy sale are sold at introductory prices, not sale prices. the midi MF was sold out when i went today but they will restock on monday. space police is apparently a bigw exclusive, so don't expect the other stores to get them this year. maybe next year....don't really know. also, the 4wd & trailer was $2 cheaper than advertised (at $22.74). i wonder what exclusive set will DJ be getting. seems like there are too many sets/themes this year and every store will run exclusives. won't be seeing any price competition among the different retailers.... no wonder TRU was so ruthless in raising prices... DV's tie was also higher at $55. I saw a couple of these at my local Kmart on Thursday night. They were all gone on Saturday though - I was actually surprised they lasted until the sale. If I didn't have it already I would've picked it up for full RRP on Wednesday. i don't see why you need to. kmart will price match... there's bound to be a TRU with one in stock.
Strand Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Is the magnet set available in Aus? I would have thought that as long as it wasn't here, some idiots would be still willing to fork out this crazy amount of money...It's sad to see TRU always abuse the sales of their exclusives... Look how Target is doing it, it's taking its (already well-priced) exclusive and making it cheaper! It's ultimately TRU's loss. They seem to be the only retailer not having a great toy sale on now and will probably lose a tonne of business this month. Neverhteless, Twilight (TRU exclusive) is now $95 from $150, though I'm still not sure if that's even worth the parts. I paid $50 per spider droid on launch day, with Home One and Tank Droids around the corner, I'll probably be eating ramen for a month to pay this all off.
Svelte Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Much as it's easy to blame TRU, they don't just magically make up prices. It is illegal for stores to sell items in this country above RRP. If there have been hikes, ludicrous as they may be with something like Dooku's Solar Sailer, they are done with full cooperation and authorisation from Lego Australia.
Whittleberry Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 yes, but from S@H. i think some small domestic retailers carry them too though...toyworld maybe? or toycorner? Well Toy Corner doesn't, coincidentally I was there just the other day. DJ is the other retailer not having a toy sale...all the DJ's I've been to seem to have run out of puff - poor selection of stock (the sets no-one has wanted to buy, as they've been sitting there for ages) and no discounts. I really wonder if they're giving up on toys, and are just selling what they have until they're all gone, since my local DJ and the one in the city haven't restocked since last year, I don't think... I really don't see the likelihood of a DJ exclusive this year, unless it's the only thing LEGO-wise that they bother about.
YG-49 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 natelite, we know Space Police is exclusive to Big W Has anyone spotted City outside of Kmart?
Strand Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 natelite, we know Space Police is exclusive to Big W Has anyone spotted City outside of Kmart? On another note, does anyone know if the King's Castle Siege (Castle) is in stock for any retailer? I tried looking for this set all over the place and never found anything, not even sure if it's been released or came out awhile ago... Don't want to resort to S@H

I tried looking for this set all over the place and never found anything, not even sure if it's been released or came out awhile ago... Don't want to resort to S@H Not even TRU has it. you're outta luck. you can try bttw.com.au but they raised the price to $199. Much as it's easy to blame TRU, they don't just magically make up prices. It is illegal for stores to sell items in this country above RRP.If there have been hikes, ludicrous as they may be with something like Dooku's Solar Sailer, they are done with full cooperation and authorisation from Lego Australia. is it really? i see bttw.com.au and toycorner raise prices all the time. MSRP stands for manufacturer's "suggested" retail prices after all. i'm sure they allow +/- 20% markup or down from that price point. besides that, bttw and toycorner regularly mark up discontinued sets to BL prices... sometimes even more.
