Siegfried Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 That 10210 is lurvly! Just don't be calling it "Luvly"; that's reserved! Even so, I can't wait for mine! I assume you will be abstaining due to Brickworld?
jonwil Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Why is it that me buying something from K-Mart (Venice Canal Chase, Crawler Crane etc) seems to be a cue for it to go down in price below what I paid for it :(
Siegfried Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Why is it that me buying something from K-Mart (Venice Canal Chase, Crawler Crane etc) seems to be a cue for it to go down in price below what I paid for it :( What I do is check every store in the next few weeks after I've made a LEGO purchase just to increase the chance of me finding it cheaper and feeling guilty/stupid. I'm kinky like that.
DarthSion Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 S@H updates people, Toy story sets are up, and damn 23 for the army men set, I think I will still get it, even though I only collect SW. Atlantis and Ben10 are up. /me I must not be a hypocrite must avoid using large pointless font. God damn, 60 bucks for the swamp speeder, and 50 for Luke's speeder, we are getting screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewed. No lego for me until a % off sale, I guess TLG need to recoup for releasing these other doomed series so they ripping us off.
YG-49 Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 $8.00 for the Small Car! That's terrible! Outrage!
I Scream Clone Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 I assume you will be abstaining due to Brickworld? Yup, just managed to offload a 10195 to help with the trip. Maybe I can pick the Imperial Flagship up in the US at the nice exchange rate Probably have to mail it home though I do remember reading about a SW fan who took the 10179 on a US flight to another country as carry on luggage though, probably need to buy a spare set for that behemoth. I would want to open the box and get started, do you think the stewards would mind me spreading out the bricks on the aisle?
Clone-Trooper Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 I gather everyone else has noticed the doubling of prices for the new Lego sets, for example: US $24.99 - 8092 Lukes landspeeder AUS $ 49.99 - 8092 Lukes Landspeeder I wouldn't be too disappointed paying $49 dollars for the Landspeeder because it does have x5 minifigures which I think are worth the $49 dollar price point by itself, that's if I didn't know what price it is in the USA. But when I can order Lego from the US and have it shipped to Australia and come off better then buying here, is where I get disappointed. My recent prime example is the 10179 UCS Millenium Falcon which I ordered in the US, had shipped there and then mailed here to Australia. And it only cost me $600 Australian dollars with two shipping fee's (one for the US address and then FEDEX to Australia). And they're only predicting the Australian dollar to be on par to the US, then I'll be buying up more!!!!! I still can't work out with the currency difference why Lego.com would charge so much? Perhaps they think they know they can get away with it and people will still buy the sets. Or, it's the 25 million people that live in Australia compared to the 300 million population of the USA. In otherwords, start buying from the US especially when they have specials and sales on. They're very very frequent over there because their economy isn't back to what it used to be yet so they're all fighting for sales and profit.........
MicroM Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Have to agree with the pricing this year, seems ridiculous for us Aussies. I had already said I wouldn't bother with a few of the first wave this year (space is becoming an issue for me), the high pricing was the final nail in that coffin. I'm also worried about that Swamp Speeder, as we'll no doubt get the TrU markup (if that's where it settles as the exclusive). So we could be paying $80 for that - INSANE.
jonwil Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I think that the high prices are even more unjustifiable given the favorable exchange rate (i.e. when they convert AUD back to USD)
Darth_Legois Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 I would want to open the box and get started, do you think the stewards would mind me spreading out the bricks on the aisle? Been there, Done that. Wouldn't recommend it.
jonwil Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I would want to open the box and get started, do you think the stewards would mind me spreading out the bricks on the aisle? LEGO bricks flying around the cabin when the plane hits turbulence would NOT be fun, nor would trying to find all the missing parts that have gone into various holes/cracks/crevices on the plane (imagine if one fell through a hole and landed in a cargo hold or somewhere else you cant get)

TLG have as much as addmitted the US price is being subsidised by the rest of the world. My last purchase was two modular fire stations, some PF parts and some train track, all shipped to a remailer (shipito.com) and then here for cheaper than the RRP in Aussie dollars. Next time I'll get the remailer to get rid of the oversized lego boxes and use standard size ones to lower the shipping even further.
Svelte Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I bought most stuff I wanted from the Jan releases in 2 batches - in one from the US I has 2x Apple Tree House, ARC, Droid Fighter, 1xbattlepacks and the Toy Story green army me - I had that in time for Xmas and still paid less than what I would have if I'd bought from S@H with shipping. I also bought 2x 8061 Squid Gates and paid $124AUD inc shipping from the Netherlands - I did have a store discount of 10% which meant I basically paid $4 for shipping over the retail price. Less than a train fare's difference if I was going to pick them up from K-Mart in March. Shop around - Bricklink can be your friend while the dollar is strong, especially if you're buying a few small to mid-size sets at the same time. I'm not shy about spending money on LEGO and I try and balance spending more on early releases with savings later in the year. I didn't say it last year, even with the Venator hike to $AUD230, but paying $AUD50 for the Freeco Speeder for 2 figs and a flimsy yet oversized speeder pushed me into the 'will wait for a deep discount or not at all' basket. 176 pieces for a $AUD59.99 8092 Swamp Speeder - with only one new fig - and what looks like a collection of common bley and dark red pieces is the point at which I throw in my cards with all but the best sets from Star Wars. This year's Jan wave, more than any other, feels cheap in terms of part usage and innovation (apart from some 2x4 tiles and 1x2 cheese), and the hiked up price is just an insult. EDIT: I just noticed that Fire Brigade and Tantive IV have been upped to $AUD299.99 so I wouldn't be overly amazed if someone from S@H notices the 10210 Flagship is well below the '2x the US price' formula and gets changed. I can't believe it! I was shocked enough when the Tantive IV and 10197 jumped to $279.99, let alone $299.99!
DarthSion Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Wow did I just see a mod price rant. I have been thinking of using BL for getting some older sets, but can't make my mind up, plus it just feels like ebay and starting over again and earning your points from zero is just annoying. And I find it too much of a coincidence the same time they release a bunch of disney crap the SW sets get to rip off prices, thank god for % off sales.
Clone-Trooper Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) EDIT: I just noticed that Fire Brigade and Tantive IV have been upped to $AUD299.99 so I wouldn't be overly amazed if someone from S@H notices the 10210 Flagship is well below the '2x the US price' formula and gets changed. I can't believe it! I was shocked enough when the Tantive IV and 10197 jumped to $279.99, let alone $299.99! WOW, your right.............. Right before my very eye's it went up $20 dollars...... to be at the double the USA price point? What is going on, that means if Toys'R'Us ever gets it, it will be $349 dollars!!! Well, as per my previous posts, I guess thats another set up buying from the USA when it goes on sale. And it will go on sale, because they always do over there!!! Thanks for informing us of the price increases. Perhaps Lego.com thought no one would notice. Has anyone noticed that the Star Wars Endor set 8038 has been taken of the Australian Lego.com sale site? It's now listed as unavailable? Anyone herd anything? Edited January 2, 2010 by Clone-Trooper
I Scream Clone Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Checked out the clearance items at Kmart, they had City corner for $69, Tan house for $99, Soldiers fort for $60, Squiddy for $6, Orange SP3 guy for $10, racers all about $7. If anyone hears them dropping further, let us know, because at the moment, it just feels like a 20% off sale without the good sets. I agree 100%. TLG have as much as addmitted the US price is being subsidised by the rest of the world. Its nice to know that shipito.com is legit and a happy experience for you, may be worth a try in future. Cheers
jonwil Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 My guess is that prices have gone up across the board (mostly due to increases in the costs of plastics, transport etc) but then TLG decided to heavily subsidize the US (their most important market and the one where their customers are the least likely to be willing to spend money on luxuries like toys) by jacking up the prices for the rest of the world.
Hewman Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Have to agree with the pricing this year, seems ridiculous for us Aussies. With the swamp speeder at $60 for 176 pieces, that's over 34 cents a piece, does anyone know of any more expensive per piece set at RRP that doesn't include power functions or any other expensive to produce parts? The pricing is getting a little out of hand, and like many others here I'm considering how to adjust my lego budgeting, which basically means only buying sets on sale.
Siegfried Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 My last purchase was two modular fire stations, some PF parts and some train track, all shipped to a remailer (shipito.com) and then here for cheaper than the RRP in Aussie dollars. I didn't say it last year, even with the Venator hike to $AUD230, but paying $AUD50 for the Freeco Speeder for 2 figs and a flimsy yet oversized speeder pushed me into the 'will wait for a deep discount or not at all' basket. Yeah. The only Star Wars sets that I'm seeing as compelling are the Turbo Tank and the Wampa. I want the Slave 1 but I have the last one and chances are I can make it from what I have. When I see the prices I'll probably skip the lot! At the moment I have a lot of LEGO. Not as much as I want, but I have enough that I can wait out sales. The thing is I want to have ooodles of LEGO, and I'll never have that if I pay top dollar. I noticed the Tantive IV yesterday, but not the Fire Brigade. I must admit I've been ignoring both sets as while I like them both, I consider them overpriced. I suspect Tantive IV will appear at K-Mart soon... Wow did I just see a mod price rant. We do it all the time! Has anyone noticed that the Star Wars Endor set 8038 has been taken of the Australian Lego.com sale site? It's now listed as unavailable? I noticed that yesterday as well and I don't get it. But as it had a lot of things that I wanted TLG had me there by the short and curlies so I got that months ago...
Svelte Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I'm turning into one of those AFOLs who will probably just buy the figs I want from bricklink and ignore the set! But to be honest, I'd rather spend $20 and get the one fig I want than spend $50 or $60 and further encourage LEGO. Every sale counts! The weirdest thing I find is the massive disconnect between LEGO's retail prices and what actual customers in shops seem willing to pay
DarthSion Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 What seems retarded is S@H selling stuff at a high price and people buying them, but stores having % off sales and clearance items. Which begs the question, if stores can have clearance and sales, why is S@H so tight ah fisted and only have like 2 day sale after xmas.
Siegfried Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Which begs the question, if stores can have clearance and sales, why is S@H so tight ah fisted and only have like 2 day sale after xmas. I'm disappointed in you DarthSion. I've always seen it as rather obvious. S@H tries to not compete with other retailers. They charge an inflated RRP which allow other stores to go under it, and they almost only have sales for clearance purposes. If S@H competed with retailers many would not stock LEGO, and that would be to the detriment of TLG. In time I can see S@H being the best place to buy LEGO... but it'll be at least another 5 years. Do you agree with my logic or do you think I'm wrong? (I have no proof.)
DarthSion Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) No I just think they are greedy, but I ain't going to argue with a mod. Edited January 2, 2010 by DarthSion
Siegfried Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) No I just think they are greedy, but I ain't going to argue with a mod. Give me a break. You can argue with mods/admins all you want on non-site issues. I'm a big boy, and I know when I'm right. Cut loose on me. Why do you think they are greedy? Do you really think they'd sell more at S@H if they had more sales? I doubt it. The average parent (which is where TLG make the most money) haven't even heard about S@H so what would be the point? Edited January 2, 2010 by Siegfried Re-worded "sales"
lightningtiger Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 2009 stocks are starting to even run low at TRU stores - one only had 3 Home Ones left - dam it I'll have too S@H it instead !
