I highly recommend the arcade from 2022, set 41708, to all the new Friends fans. It's a really fun set more so if you love the colors of the 80s.

I got the 2022 41719: Mobile Fashion Boutique recently, found it in a store, I rarely buy LEGO in stores (most toy shops disappeared), but I look forward to that bubble tea cart to go with it.

Bubble Tea shop also reminds me a lot of 40488: Coffee Cart GWP from 2 years back

 

Those smaller friends sets are really good, even the last year 41705: Heartlake City Pizzeria I still might get and then convert it into a building as I don't have previous pizzerias (only a City Pizza Van)  , and not planning to get the Jazz club or City 2020 Town Centre.

Even 41723: Donut Shop looks like a cool set, it has some big 4+ pieces to build things easily, but the piece selection looks good overall, printed donuts/sign (I don't have police station modular), bird, green scooter, orange juice etc. 

Because those sets are smaller, they make great starters to build out from and make custom shops. 

There was a big City Toy/Donut shop set in 2019 but I never got it as it wasn't really that focused on the building itself, came with lots of side vehicles etc (and a year after that a 3-in-1 toy shop appeared)

I'd probably modify 31077: Modular Sweet Surprises into a larger bakery/donut shop (replacing the pie/croissants Sign with the donut print dish is easy enough)

I plan to get that for the colors for sure, and there are some arcade machines in the 3-in-1 noodle shop, or the 2023 Friends Diner, that could certainly fit there too.

I got it last December, and it was missing a piece, now that I got that part from Lego, I got to say, one of the best sets of 2022 friends

small friends sets are very nice indeed, got the donut shop on January 1st because I needed liann, and I turned it into a Chinese donut shop with the add on pack

I mean, I love yellowie minifigures. I personally prefer yellow over skin tones. Yellow is just a netural color and it’s easy for body parts to be interchanged.

But I also like skin tones - diversity matters for everyone.

Funny as mine had an extra piece. I got an extra 1x1 green cone for the top of the tree.

Literally nobody is suggesting this. Relax.

All somebody did was observe that there's still only a few characters with the darkest skin tones in this new wave. That can easily be improved without "banning all white characters". Catastrophizing about some sort of slippery slope helps no one and seriously misrepresents innocent requests for slightly more equal representation.

Just because a few characters are very dark doesn't mean it's not diverse. 4.7 billion Asians vs 1.4 billion Africans. There are a wide range of skin shades and that's what's important.  Lego literally introduced new colors just to have more skin tones.

Yes, they did introduce more skin tones! So why is getting more use out of some of those a bad thing? Especially considering that having more options for each color makes customization easier.

I have no idea why you're so upset over a simple suggestion like that. Having a few more black characters won't hurt anyone, I promise.

So many cool character designs! I hope we get some of those background characters in sets down the line, there's some awesome torso designs!

I hadn't realised Adi attended school, but she showed up twice in the video. I'd assumed she was an adult when set 41732 showed her moving furniture into her new apartment, but I guess she lives there with her parents maybe?

There's some cool building designs in HLC now. I read somewhere that Lego had mapped out different areas/neighbourhoods so fans can get a better feel for how HLC is laid out, so hopefully some of that interesting architecture will feature in future waves of the sets.

I was hoping this time round that they'd use named characters from the sets that aren't the main core group in the story instead of characters we don't have physical toys of yet; but the kid brown nosing the Principal, the Pickle kid, the pig etc aren't in sets yet I don't think. I was hoping to see Niko, Jordin, Charli, Luna etc. Though this is just the first teaser so they still may appear.

I'm pretty sure I saw Matilde skating around 0.51 though it's weird she's wearing her Bubble Tea uniform to school, just with a jacket over it. maybe she's heading to work?

I think the building at 2.49 must be Aliya's apartment building, it matches the architecture of her bedroom.

I like that the school looks pretty similar to the actual set.

I hope we get some of the hairpieces shown. P.I.X.A.L's current hair in brown looks good and I think the kid laughing at Paisley has a new hairpiece design that we haven't got in physical form yet?

I like that some of the core group of Friends seem to be having trouble getting along, them not being besties from the get go is a bit more realistic and will be good for character development as they learn to appreciate each other's differences. I like the relatability of certain characters not being open about all of their interests straightaway. 

Did I catch Leo having an accent? Hopefully the show will lean into the International nature of the school and feature realistic accents and cultures.

maybe we can see the pig in autumn’s stable? Looks to be a different variation of pua from Moana, is anyone else wondering why zac wasn’t in the teaser, anyway, the orange haired kid does have a new hairpiece, Leo 100% has an accent.

in unrelated terms, I had a shower thought, and theorized that autumn’s dad is river, so river moves to Africa, runs into Mia, they have a child, autumn, but a disagreement happens between Mia and river before autumn is born, Mia wants to raise their child in Heartlake city, to be closer to her family, river, however, wants to stay in Africa, so Mia (and by extension, autumn) move back to Heartlake city, while river stays in Africa

I slowed the video right down for something like my 10th rewatch 😅 and finally saw Niko.

People have been theorizing that River is Autumn's dad. It could be possible, Autumn could have a dad with a warmer skin tone but take more after her mother's skin tone. I suppose it depends whether River and Mia got back together after River ditched her to join the circus and Mia went to Africa. The last guy we saw Mia interacting with in the toyline before the reboot was Joaquim, but there's nothing to suggest he and Mia were anything more than aquaintences.

I kinda think it'd be an empowering story if Mia never married and just adopted a child (or had a child through artificial insemination) that she raised successfully as a single mother. Or that she had an unplanned teen pregnancy but stepped up to the challenge and thrived as a good provider to a child. Usually when Lego does a house for a main friends character, we get 2 parents. So I think it's safe to assume there's no partner in Mia's life; so we may never find out who Autumn's sperm donor was. Speaking of single parent families, I wonder how much the new show will reference Paisley's mother being dead? It'd be relatable for bereaved children, but might be too heavy a topic for a kid's show to really delve into too much?

I'm super interested to see how the new show handles Mia. I hope they don't retcon her character and just have her play the role of a generic mother. At least she didn't lose her love of animals when she lost her freckles.

also, in regard to your autumn theroy, I doubt Lego would make a bold statement about artificial insemination, or teen pregnancy, essentially for a beloved character like Mia for a kids show, the new series debuts on tv in January, do you think that it’ll be on Lego’s YouTube like ninjago and Lego city adventures?

Here's my attempt at a review of the Lego Friends Liann's Room set 41739. I'm in no way a video editor and I'm not comfortable speaking to a camera, so it's pretty basic, but I plan to do an AFOL review for AFOLS  for most of the 2023 Lego Friends sets.
