There’s a new magazine come out in some countries, with the new black kitten. Unfortunately not available where I live at the moment, you can see a new sketch on the advertisement page with some of the new friends. https://www.blue-ocean.de/lego-friends/detail/detail/lego-friends-2
Also seeing as some summer set lists have leaked for other themes, it’s an apt time to speculate about future sets. In Autumn’s house there is a tv showing a picture of a lion and cub, so potentially a wildlife theme in summer. The Disney line had an adult tiger for Rajah, which would work for a lioness. Also with Andrea’s house there was a tv of a circus, then we got the magical fun fair sets in the summer. I hope there’s something relating to Aliya’s bedroom in the summer or of course a whole new theme! I can’t think of any other clues what I’ve seen in the new sets.

I think they will. LEGO does that with City so I think they will do the same with the new reboot of Friends. On the boxes everyone has a name and even the cop has a name.

Friends definately going to have a lot of named characters, and Friends definately is the type of long-time lasting show already and 10 year history of the previous 5 Friends, the concept just works imo.

 

City does stop LEGO City Adventures and character names in 2023, which I don't think is a bad thing for that theme, considering there still are many new character hairs and faces instead of the umpteenth duke detain fig. , I don't think the majority of those named City characters were very memorable either.

That's not to say Friends doesn't get repeats, of course it does, but I think the minidoll thing allows for very varied outfits and dresses etc, in a theme focused more about hair/beauty salons and cloth/accesoires shops compared to City ever had.

And there's also a lot more connection to the Friends characters when we get sets like their houses, bedrooms, activities instead of just naming the main police action hero, fire chief , or crook.

 

City did have some characters like a pop star named Poppy Starr, but even then there was nowhere near the character connection compared to Friends artists/side character like Livi from a couple years back, Poppy Starr really got randomly thrown in the large airplane set, got a side stage in main square and then later shows up as Stuntz rider.

But compare that to sets like Livi got , 6 sets in 2 years purely focused on her in form of bus,house,podium, limo, dressing room and studio.

leo: unbelievable!
aliya: ohhh

liann: oh, wow

olly: so the film team wants to shoot here? 

Autumn: well, yeah, I think so

aliya: then to work!  Everything has to be camera ready by tomorrow

leo: I can bake cute cat muffins

liann: and I paint some colorful pictures of cats to beautify the barn a little

aliya: I can organize all the cats documents for their new owners

olly: I grab a few brushes and prepare the kittens a bit

liann: and this beauty can be my model 

autumn: that’s so kind of you, thanks

olly: okay, furry balls, ready for my wellness treatment

aliya: I’ll come with you autumn, then you can show me where all the documents are

Weirdly, the new issue of the Lego Friends magazine that just hit the shelves in the UK suggests that we'll still be seeing the 5 OG friends in the next issue due at the end of January 2023. It'd be cool if it features all 13 characters as a sort of 'Handover' from one generation to the next

I mean, unless there have been deaths or major arguments, I assume Mia would still be in contact with the other 4?

Stephanie's on the wall in Autum's house, she could even be Autumn's other parent if Lego were feeling super progressive?

Imagine a cute story where the OG 5 get together to dig up a time capsule they buried when they were young and share their memories with the G2 Friends? I can imagine the OG five becoming influential humanitarian role models who get invited into The International School to inspire the next generation. 

Or a cross-generational sub theme (that will never happen) of 5 sets with Emma making art with Liann, Stephanie cooking with Leo, Mia rescuing cats with Olly, Andrea singing with Paisley and Olivia doing intelligent person stuff with Aliya.

I was just thinking, it'd be so cool if Emily or Sophie from Lego Elves were a parent or teacher to one of the new main characters as a cute Easter egg to the other great minidoll theme. One of them could be the author of Aliya's fantasy book/movie. We've already seen Noctura in the Theatre school set. I doubt it would ever happen, but it'd be so fun.

There's a new character called Gertrude in set 41742. I assumed she was Olly's cat (she's the grey cat in that set according to NewElementary) but maybe she's Autumn's? Though it's not unusual to have random letter magnets on a fridge so it might not refer to anyone? Unless Autumn's dad's name begins with G? Maybe he'll be in the stable set in the Summer wave?

Definitely Autumn’s house and the hair salon. I’m drawn to the cat hotel for some reason, think it’s good value for money and probably the design store set if it has some money off in the future. The supermarket is cool too, but think I might just wait to buy parts from it.

It definitely could be a relative like a parent or younger sibling who hasn't been introduced yet. Or it could be something totally unrelated like the initials of one of the set designers/graphic designers. Too early to know for sure, I think.

I think the most interesting take is how City and Friends "subthemes" launching at the same time, formerly it used to be about 1 year apart,  City has rumored Ski and Underwater sets as well.

While not entirely new (City 2022 Space and Friends 2022 Space Shuttle/astronauts), it brings the themes closer together.

The only ones I’m committed to are Unity Street - because there is a very awkward open space in my city layout right next to a wall and that odd 22-wide footprint (once I take off the extra little bit at the side) is perfect to fill it, and I’ll find somewhere else to put the other two modules - and also the little dog rescue set, just as an add-on to Unity Street. 

Possibly a weird flex, but I’m actually considering getting the Modern School to convert into a barracks for my city’s military base. Hardly committed though, it’d take a lot of modding. 

Most of the rest don’t interest me. Autumn’s House is cute but too wide and not tall enough to feel like it’s an efficient use of layout space to me, so . . maybe if it goes on a good discount.

Just built autumns house, it’s cramped, but very cozy looking, very complex for the price, but not hard, I’m hoping the stable set is an expansion to the house
