PK82 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 (edited) I was hoping for some ideas for a city layout to show as much Modulars as possible. This is my current layout: The squares and park are MOCs. I could've used the space for more modulars but I didn't want to obscure the view of the buildings in the back row. So that's 11 buildings so far. My brother's moving out next year so I get more space. I think this would be the logical and most balanced expansion. Make one square larger and cap off the other side with buildings. Gains me space for 4 more buildings (15 total). Putting another street in front gains me two more plots (17 total) Or extend in the back which gains me four more plots (19 total). 4 buildings on each side plus one building behind Diner and one behind Bank. But that would leave a gap. Any suggestions welcome. Edited December 14, 2022 by PK82 Quote
Maple Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 I guess it depends on what you plan on buying. I noticed you don't have the hotel from last year or corner garage. Are you planning on getting the hotel and the club? I'd go with the first setup, gives you a few extra spaces, less holes, and then in 2024 you can figure out a different setup. Quote

I do have BH and CG but there are only 4 corner plots (due to the table being in the room's corner) and I like the ones I chose for these spots better. BH is especially though to place in my opinion as it has 2.5 decent sides. I will get the Jazz Club eventually, but it'll probably go on a shelf as I don't see myself liking it enough to become part of the city layout. Gaps are not an issue as the goal is to have space for as many Modulars as possible. Edited December 15, 2022 by PK82 Quote

Shiva Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Inner yard with gardens, shacks, And more. + maybe have a gap or 2 between some of the buildings, so you get small alleyways to it, from the street? Quote

Yeah, that's a good idea. Thanks. But instead of a small alleyway a full street. 20 plots total, allows for 2 more corner buildings and unuseable plots reduced to 3. I'd move the bank to where the Daily Bugle is listed, and move the Bugle to the back row. It isn't technically a corner building, so should work good in any open spot back there, maybe with open space on both sides (either 2 half plates if you add another modular or 2 full plates if you don't.. PK82 Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 (edited) The Daily Bugle is in that spot because that plot kind of requires 4 presentable sides. If I put the bank there, its "ugly" sides would face the hotel and the Sanctum Santorum. What works though is putting the Sanctum next to the Parisian Restaurant. The open space of the Restaurant allows for the Shuma-Gorath to be visible. Edited December 20, 2022 by PK82 Quote

Brickbank can be easily mirrored to place on a different corner than designed, and I was thinking of it from a facing outwards perspective and the fact it is short. If you mod your buildings it wouldn't be a big deal, but if you display purely based on the instructions I agree that wasn't the best place for me to recommend. Quote
PK82 Posted December 22, 2022 Author Posted December 22, 2022 (edited) The Bugle faces the square and park. This is what I have come up so far for the extension: Fountain Square Extension_5 | PK0282 | Flickr As you can see I've mostly "stolen" minibuilds from other modulars to have a consistent look. How many can you spot? ;-) Edited December 22, 2022 by PK82 Quote
Lion King Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) So far I have arranged my buildings in the city layout. Jazz Club l Downtown Diner - Police Station - Boutique Hotel I just finished building Bookshop so I’m not sure where I will put it somehwere in my current layout. I will build Corner Garage and Parisian Restaruant later. any idea where to put Bookshop? Edited October 13, 2023 by Lion King Quote
Silverhurst Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 I can't think about placement right now to help you (working right now), but I wanted to remind you that you can put the 2 halves of Bookshop in different locations if that helps make things work better. As I was recommending above last year, I also have no problem with building something backwards from the instructions (mirroring) if that helps things fit better too (nor mod the heck out of them, but that's a whole different issue). PK82 Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 (edited) Took me longer than expected but I finally got my custom-made sideboard. After much reshuffling I settled on an L shaped layout. The longer side is 13x3 baseplates, the shorter side is 7x2 baseplates. In total 53 baseplates. Natural History Museum is on two baseplates so it has some space on each side. It looked too cramped right next to other modulars and I had to get on an even baseplate count anyway. To even out the 1.5 baseplates of Assembly Square I'm going to build an elevator between Palace Cinema and Downtown Diner. This will lead to an upper city level (using the window sill). The longer side is almost finished. Next steps will be building the Botanical Garden, the Elevator, and a footbridge and completing street lights with a cheap LED string. I'm thinking about installing a grid on the ceiling so I can hang down helicopters etc. Edited November 18, 2024 by PK82 Quote
PK82 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 (edited) Here are some pictures of the shorter side and the street lights installed. I hope Tudor Corner will fit where the red baseplate is right now next to the Botanical Garden.
