i say set her on fire record it and put it on youtube with subtitles saying repent or die...

anyhoo my parents were like that sort of, my mum would say you can't have any money out of the bank (i didn't have a bank card) because you spend it too often, but she never let me spend any using this excuse every time, meaning said excuse is redundant. but then i got a paperround which payed the same as my pocket money (£50 per month) so it was a lot of money that she had no control over which i could spend whenever. my advice get a job you damn hippy!!

oh and showing her forums may not be the best of ideas (no offence eurobricks), i tried that but it led to comments such as: "well they are probably nerdy wierdos with no freinds" but meh.

oh also i had an aunty (still do actually, stubborn female canine) who every time she came over with her unbearable children would say "euggh lego is for children, not fourteen year olds... " these comments truly pissed me off because she was the one who was too tight to buy me lego she got me mega###ks.

I feel you. I can be of no help though I am kept on a strict budget for my hobbies as well.

Try it being married.........I earn a real good living and when I come home with another set or a set or parts from E-bay show up I have to quickly hide them before she see's them.

Of course I have the same problem when I buy a new gun..... :classic:

Your parents are of those kind that think they are doing the right thing....

I agree that they are wrong, when you work for the money, they have no (censored) right to tell you how to spend it, they could merely advise you in it!

Thank god my parents were never like that.

Dude, you have a major problem. If you can drive, get your bank card (sneak it from you mom), go to the bank, make a withdrawl, and go buy some LEGO. Build the sets and dispose of the boxes and others in your room. Try to do this while your mom's busy, or sleeping. To get out of the house, tell her you're gonna go get groceries. I never had this problem. My mom'l buy me whatever I want within reason, like the other day, she just went out and bought me a 360. And I'm getting the RGS and AT-TE for my birthday.(3 days away :classic: )

My suggestions:

1) Show her this site- it's full of AFOLs and TFOLs and if this dousn't work (which it won't if she gets really stubborn)

2) Start buying "baby toys" so she might decide that Lego might not be so bad. (of caurse- this is fairly expencive, but if nothing else works this should do it)

But remember- She has to be convinced, not forced to reallow you to buy Legos.

I wish someone would buy me a 360, the RGS and the AT-TE! :)

Anyway, I agree with what folks have said here. I'm 36 and provided that I pass the California Bar Exam, I'll be a practicing lawyer. In other words, it's possible to have a grown up career and still be a fan - LEGO is a hobby for all ages. I had a few sets as a kid, but I didn't seriously start down the path until SW LEGO came out. I have mostly SW sets with a few others mixed in. Still, I am getting to critical mass and my wife wants me to stop, but then, in the grand scheme of things, a few thousand plastic bricks isn't that bad of a hobby. I always tell her that I could have a "project car" in the garage, or a motorcycle, etc.
