I'm expecting a December set will give us Super Shadow, It'd probably get a sales boost from featuring a variant of Shadow after the movie increases his popularity. Given a Super Shadow is just pallet swapped Shadow it'd be easy enough to do also.

In terms of other characters, while the games they are drawing inspiration from had Mecha Sonic, I think they'd be more likely to go for Metal Sonic because it's a more popular version of the character and there was/is fan speculation that he'll show up in the third film.

Super Shadow, Metal Sonic and Sonic in a December set would pair well with '76999' if it does feature Super Sonic, Robotnik and Shadow. It'd also get a sales boost from featuring a variant of Shadow after the movie increases his popularity.

I think so, but not necessarily for the Summer wave. I'd say maybe one or two figures, but likely in December. Probably Super Shadow (As a recolour of Shadow) and maybe Metal Sonic.

2023: Sonic, 'Winking Sonic', Tails, Amy and Robotnik. Technically Shadow though he's likely part of the 2024 budget.

2024: Shadow, Knuckles and Rouge and Super Sonic.

Speculation:

• Tails’ Adventure Boat - Tails, Amy and Rouge
• Knuckles and the Master Emerald - include Knuckles and Sonic
• Super Sonic vs Egg Drillster - Super Sonic, Robotnik and Shadow

This splits Knuckles, Shadow and Rouge over the three Summer sets and pairs them with previously released characters. If they bring back the track pieces it'd explain the pricing of the Knuckles and Super Sonic set. Other than a potential variant I'd be surprised if these sets give us a new figure other than Super Sonic in the Summer.

With Team Sonic being completed by the inclusion of Knuckles I think they'll probably find a set to include E-123 Omega as a brick-built figure soon as it'd complete Team Dark. At which point with the potential for Super Shadow and Metal Sonic closing out 2024 they could give us Cheese, Cream and Big (Along with Froggy) for 2025 to give us Team Rose as the potential last wave.

Easiest way to do it would be using the hair piece from Shadow. Sonic's is normally slightly more curved upwards while Shadow's is normally more jagged, but in terms of a Lego adaptation I could see it working fine.

So, just summarizing:
76997: Tails Adventure Boat ($59.99, 393pcs)
76998: Knuckles and the Master Emerald ($59.99, 325pcs)
76999: Super Sonic Vs Egg Drilled ($99.99, 590pcs)
77000: 18+ (720pcs) - October

I'd hope that the '77000' set is movie-inspired and potentially giving us Super Shadow, though given the 18+ I'm leaning more to this being a buildable Sonic figure in the style of Rocket Raccoon or something like that. If they accomplished that for 566 pieces they can definitely do Sonic for 720 pieces.

I've seen some suggest the 'Death Egg' if so, it could be a way to get Mecha or Metal Sonic.

That Rocket Raccoon is only a 10+ set, as are the other figures in that style. If it is a buildable figure I imagine it would be much more of a display figure, similar to the 43179 Mickey and Minnie. 

That said, I feel the most likely option for what this could be is another buildable 2D zone in the style of the Ideas set to connect to it. After all, that set does have Technic pins on the end. (As for this rumored set having significantly less pieces than the Ideas set, remember that that set had hundreds of small plates going into the checkerboard pattern dirt. Many other zones they could pick - Marble or Chemical Plant seem the most likely imo - would have much simpler bases).

...In what fashion? We know literally nothing about it, and what objects even are there that could warrant such a set?

Mario 18+ sets have all been Brickbuilt sets most objects or enemies. I just assume they would do the same for Sonic. I’m still hopeful for a 18+ playset with hopefully a new fig but LEGO lately has been pushing for more Brickbuilt object sets for almost every theme.

Mario is a theme that doesn't have any minifigures, seemingly because Nintendo won't allow it. Sonic is a minifigure theme, and so far the only 18+ set was designed for a minifigure. 

And again, what object would they even do for Sonic? A ring wouldn't take that many pieces, an Emerald wouldn't be feasible because it would need to be entirely transparent, something like the Miles Electric isn't nearly iconic enough, there aren't nearly enough pieces to do a real-world console such as a Genesis or Dreamcast, etc. I could maybe see them doing a buildable display statue of a character, but there's no reason to see that as more likely than a minifigure set.

Some themes have multiple 18+ sets that range from minifig playsets to Brickbuilt objects. 

Just cause the Ideas project was minifig based doesn’t mean every Sonic 18+ set will be the same.

I’m only a casual fan of Sonic so I only have  a basic knowledge of the franchise. So I couldn’t tell you what object, character or enemy this could be. 

I guess we need to see the price to determine if the PPR leans more for playset or Brickbuilt object.

I think the most likely option is a buildable Sonic figure, similar to the Rocket Raccoon for Marvel, though that set was 10+ so I'm not sure why it'd be 18+ for Sonic.

You joke, but I think it'd be neat getting the Egg-Mobile and a bunch of pieces so you can build different add-ons. Such as his wrecking ball, propellor, goo chamber, arms, legs, etc... can give us the ability to have a lot of the different versions of the Egg-Mobile without having to release it over and over as seperate sets.

I would love an extension to the Ideas set. I built a wonderful version of Chemical Plant Zone by Carbohydrates on Rebrickable and I'm thinking of how I might do a Marble Hill Zone (after seeing the 1x4 masonry bricks in lavender on the PAB wall). Personally, I'd love to see them do a Casino Night Zone level, as that feels like it would be particularly tricky to do, although it also feels very unlikely.

Speculation is speculation but I think comparing this line to what Mario does when there is nothing in common with their execution is misguided. Buildable Rocket-style figure feels less likely too, for an 18+ large set at least. Not just Rocket but three Groots and some other stuff have all been aimed at younger people. Maybe it is... a shrine of the Emeralds whether that be based on Adventure, 3&K because if they would do it twice in a year why not thrice, or its a UCS Tornado, or an item box with swappable faces and... probably Green Hill Zone again inside. Lego does seem to like that kind of thing a lot

But I think a sequel to Viv's set is a good guess. Its not like they have stopped making other kinds of sets too. Avengers Tower, the Star Wars dioramas, LOTR being exclusively that kind of set + brickheadz rn

I thought a pretty obvious contender for a buildable object would be Sonic's shoes. I personally hope it's not that style of set though, I'm quite sick of them at this point. A continuation of the ideas set would be nice, ideally a zone from Sonic 2 so we can get a classic Tails figure, or a classic Eggman figure in line with the modern version we got recently.

Fang would be somewhat timely with Superstars and cool to get a second antagonist, if not the whole gang.

More Egg Machines would also be great. Someone already said it recently but the modular eggmobile lends itself great to Lego. If the Ideas set was a one and done we would definitely be designing new parts for the Eggmobile in that

I'm thinking that 18+ set is the old victory pole you see at the end of a level
