SirNadroj Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 You have cards!?! Who doesn't? Though I do need to get new ones, once my website is up and running. And if there is no pirate line down the line... I must have these minifigures! (Or at least know why the heck they're in a LEGO store!) Perhaps there will be an advent calender of random themes? Maybe just keychains?
Norrington Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Who doesn't? Though I do need to get new ones, once my website is up and running. Well, I don't. But that's probably because you're presumably older than me. And if there is no pirate line down the line... I must have these minifigures! (Or at least know why the heck they're in a LEGO store!) Perhaps there will be an advent calender of random themes? Maybe just keychains? I doubt it. Why make 2 new torso's with double printing ust for one set?
SirNadroj Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 I doubt it. Why make 2 new torso's with double printing ust for one set? Good point. Perhaps factory then? *shiver* Oh well, we'll just have to wait. I'm hoping the manager will send me an email soon; though of course he'll say nothing is confirmed...
Norrington Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Good point. Perhaps factory then? *shiver* Oh well, we'll just have to wait. I'm hoping the manager will send me an email soon; though of course he'll say nothing is confirmed... I also doubt. Factry would also probably result in one set. And, like those Space skulls, the torso's would probably be stickers.
Adam Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Well, whether there is a new Pirates theme or not, I have this gut feeling that it'll suck. No, really. No one will like, it'll basically be a rip off of the original Pirates line. I don't know, just a feeling.
Norrington Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Well, whether there is a new Pirates theme or not, I have this gut feeling that it'll suck. No, really. No one will like, it'll basically be a rip off of the original Pirates line. I don't know, just a feeling. You know, I've been feeling that since I heard about this. Lego is too cheap and worried about price to build anything as nice as what we got in the old theme. Elderado Fortress? Cut out the back walls and 3 of the figs, then re-market it.
medib Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 But are they official or customs? Because that jester has a totally wrong head and headpiece, at least according to the one shown in the Advent Calendar. And there are some really old torsos (like the one with the surf board) mixed in with ones I've never seen before.I don't know about you guys, but this picture makes me even more confused. At least now we know SirNadroj isn't celebrating April Fool's Day too late. Your right that the jester has the wrong face and hair piece. Those belong to the new "villain" in the Agents line. Medib
Sandy Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 No one will like, it'll basically be a rip off of the original Pirates line. I don't know, just a feeling. You silly you, TLC can't rip off themselves. It's like saying the new City-sets are a "rip off" of the old ones! But other than that, I understand your worry that it won't feel the same like it did when you were a kid. I can promise you, it won't. The power of nostalgia is just so strong, it truly goldens all the memories. You just have to look at this possible new pirate-line as a new theme, not a rehash of an old one, to be satisfied with it. It was a minor shock to me to find out how much the new lego sets differ in color from the old ones. I mean, I knew about bley and new brown and all that, but it wasn't until I got to compare the pieces myself that it hit me. But I had to brush aside the sadness that my old and new lego didn't fit together perfectly, and work past it. The most important thing to remember is that it's still LEGO, and the pieces stack together no matter what color or what theme they are. If you prefer the old pirate line over the possible new one, you can modify the new sets to your liking. That's the miracle of LEGO for you.
hamilton Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 The thing that exited me most about Sir Nadroj's photographs is the light green cap on the minifig directly to the left of the 'goldtooth' pirate.... Lego never made one in pale green before, or is it just a bad light/cameraphone thing?

We are possibly going to have a new pirate line and you are excited by a little green plastic baseball cap
Mace Windu Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 New hair: off topic:for those of you who are star wars fans I think lego is giving us a hint about witch set won that toys r us vote erlier this year!! yay we get a palpy!

He should do something about that receding hairline before it's too late! Seriously, why have they sculpted the front of the piece so high? It looks wrong to see the top of the minifig's round little head
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted July 15, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted July 15, 2008 He should do something about that receding hairline before it's too late!Seriously, why have they sculpted the front of the piece so high? It looks wrong to see the top of the minifig's round little head I see your point, but personally I like that hair piece. I'll try to get one on BL once available. I can use it very well for making an officer in my armies or on one of my ships

It looks wrong to see the top of the minifig's round little head Being a BatFan I'm really looking forward to getting this hairpiece. With it's receding hairline it should make a great hairpiece for Batman villian, the Ventriloquist.

JimBee Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Hmm... these pictures all look very interesting... lots of torsos. heads and headpieces I havent seen before, like the wavy grey hair (Palpy or Dooku!), the neon green hat, the maiden, and most importantly the royal guard. I personalty think that they are real LEGO pieces, and not customs. Maybe TLG is going to drop more hints of a Pirate theme later... And yes, I know most of this was mentioned before, I read the whole topic.
Wilhelm screamer Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 (edited) The one flaw with the prospect of a new pirates line is that there would be GIANT shooter things everywhere. Edited July 16, 2008 by Wilhelm screamer
Captain Zuloo Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I don't know. I think if the pirate line was going to be re-released, it would have been done so when POTC was released. Then people would have been interested in pirates enough to make sales skyrocket, Yes? Although, you do have some pretty hard evidence here with there being minifigs show up and if they got the mould for cutlasses back out, then things are looking up! I'm still not convinced, but I am hoping! Regards, Captain Zuloo
hamilton Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 We are possibly going to have a new pirate line and you are excited by a little green plastic baseball cap Yes that is what i said. i am far more interested in new parts such as the hair pieces, hat and 'farmer' torso than any revival of the pirate theme.... Unless we get new 'sea creatures/monsters' or other new parts the revival of the theme is rather uninspiring to me. That is not to say i do not like pirates or would not welcome the return (quite the contrary), i would personally just rather see NEW themes, and no Agents is not 'new' just another re-hash (except for the new parts'.
Hayato Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 hey all my first post in pirates rather exciting stuff happening here :pir-skull: im a huge fan of pirates i have at least 75 if not 85 percent of all the pirate lego released but anyway on with my observation i noticed a couple of threads back that one of you said about the reusing of minifig heads and i got thinkin about what new heads would go well and looked through agents theme as the introduction of gold tooth earlier and noticed the only agent without a mic is charge and his head would make a wonderful pirate dont u think? Indy pirate neone lol

There have been tons of self-rip offs. I wont go into all of them, I don't want to spend a whole post slandering LEGO. In response to you're promise, that means nothing (no offense ). As Norrington said, TLC is now all about making money and cutting back on the pieces. There aren't even back walls in most structures these days! I know I can modify it, but it wont be the same. The feeling of getting, say, the Black Seas Barracuda, and having just the best time building and playing with it, modifying that to my liking, the feeling of a near-perfect set is just absent these days. I know I sound like some nostalgic old man, but it's that feeling that matters, and I only hope I can enjoy it at least one more time.
Nikola Bathory Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Yes I know, but I thought I'd let everyone speculate for a while first. So here's the answer: Both LEGO Representatives told me these were not official Pirate LEGO mini-figures and nothing is planned. I think this sumps all up - sadly. You just got far too excited by this! This is not a proof that LEGO will revive the Pirates! Don't get me wrong - I would love to see new Pirates sets!!
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 21, 2008 Governor Posted July 21, 2008 TLC is now all about making money and cutting back on the pieces. The cutting back on pieces started 12 years ago and fortunately it's improved since then, but ALL companies are about making money, or at least they want to... There aren't even back walls in most structures these days! Quickly looking a Eldorado Fortress, Lagoon Lockup, Saber Island, Imperial Outpost, Cannon Cove, Imperial Trading Post, etc. none of these have back walls. I always presumed the absence of a back wall was to allow internal playability.

Shadows Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 By "these days" and "now" I usually mean within the last 15 years . Well, since Pirates were only introduced 19 years ago, and they've always had open backs, let's try going further to see if your case holds. Classic Town and Castle both had the exact same style of build in the earlier 80s, open and hollow. Heck, people gripe about junorization as being big walls and such, but those started in the early castle era in some of the best sets ever produced and that has continued to the present. Open walls were always meant for playability, but also a certain amount of economy. Seriously, how much more would you pay to have sealed structures, and then what? You'd expect removable roofs or hinged walls or something, and honestly, it kills the whole interaction you get from a more open set. To be blunt, LEGO is like a doll house for boys. We have little furniture and walls and doors and various types of buildings ranging from houses to space stations, but in the end, they're all doll houses of a different type. LEGO did eventually go too far with the concept, briefly, with the Studios line, however. Big sections of nothing but cardboard backdrops and limited structure was too much for people to tolerate and the line died, despite some excellent ideas (the monster sets were almost brilliant). As to the price situation, look up the original retail prices that 80s era sets sold for and adjust for inflation, factoring in piece count. You'll discover something surprising if you do: LEGO isn't any more expensive now than it ever was, and in some cases it's cheaper, even with licensing costs. It's scary if you do the math.
