We'll never know for sure or ever know designers' own frustration with things because the only current employees who give interviews are those with media training, and they're never going to come out and say "yeah the higher ups really wanted us to make X and we knew it was going to suck".

For most of all Licensed themes, I truly think it's a complex conversation where IP partners, team leads and who they report to, as well as the designers all have input into the conversation about what gets made.

That could also factor into the strategy more broadly, although the parameters have to come from somewhere and the trends speak for themselves. We know Superheroes gets a fairly low budget and that it's for the entirety of the Superheroes theme - Marvel and DC - but the budget doesn't explain the overall trend of what material they decide to produce and what they don't.

The suit looks great, but not necessarily anything we haven't seen in LEGO before.
Generally speaking, that is

Lol in that case I wouldn't trust the Bugle designer with a ten foot pole, there needs to be some redemption in design quality.

Sad to see the person who designed the Benatar, also churned out the low quality Bowie 🤮. The sets feel like they were designed by a completely different person.

I mean, the sets themselves arw pretty bad, but I wouldn't say they're poorly designed. Like, the way they're built are pretty good.

No way the Bowie would've looked any better with the current price and piece count.

@BrickBob Studpants You might want to pick out your Deadpool costume ;-)

Eh. I’m not starting to worry until I see Deadpool staring at me on a LEGO box  I’ll only eat that minifig if they release an unmistakably direct tie-in set

Remember, this is the franchise that caused multiple Karens to lose their marbles when they took lil Jimmy to see the movie, not realising what “R-rated” means. I doubt TLG saw that whole mess and thought “yeah, let’s get in on that madness!!”

If I got a dollar every time this has happened on this forum I'd have 2 dollars.

Which is not a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.

You mean @Puresh (not) eating the Joyce minifig? :laugh_hard: Well, Stranger Things sounded unlikely too, but it was only rated TV-14, so the equivalent of PG-13. Deadpool has a hard R-rating, so it’s infinitely less likely. I thus feel very safe with my wager

To be fair, that's not necessarily true either. I'm not trying to blame the shadowy people upstairs for everything. Sure, you won't get a Benatar-quality set if you have to design a ship that should be easily four times the Benatar's size on less than the Benatar's budget. But also, if Mark Stafford could get the Bugle made, clearly the designers have some input on which sets get produced. I mean that's one of the biggest Marvel sets in years, and one of the few not backed by the MCU.

We just don't know how much influence they do have.

TBH the blame is less on the designers and more on the Lego product managers and unit head for the consistent poor quality of set design.

The Lego designers which fulfill the role of design/engineering/development should be empowered to speak up and advocate for a quality product. A good product owner/manager knows how to manage upwards.

Could this mean what I think it means!?!? 👀👀👀👀👀

if the rumors that

all the OG X-men will be in it with new comic accurate suits + Ben Affleck daredevil + the fox fantastic 4

are true, then I hope at the very least we get some indirect tie ins that are comic book based. It’s starting to feel likely that we will get the X-mansion next year.

But to get 1 official tie in, as a Minifigure polybag of just Hugh’s Wolverine in the new suit would leave me satisfied. The suit is just awesome, and I can’t wait to see what the cowl will look like on him.

R rating aside, it would've been extremely unlikely Lego would've been able to push out Deadpool sets in a timely manner anyways. We have no Spiderverse sets, effectively no Antman sets, no Secret Invasion sets, NWH took how many years for a pretty average set?

Instead we will get mechs, buildable figures, and random objects... hopefully we're running out of iconic Marvel objects and Lego will be forced to try something else.

Wolverine costume from Deadpool 3 officially revealed…

If only Lego would make sets for the movie dang it

If the X Men 97 cartoon set to debut sometime next year also retains the blue and yellow costumes (it likely will), I'd personally prefer sets on that show over the Deadpool movie. At least if they made an entire X-men wave I'd prefer it to be based on the show but I do think a single set based off this movie would not hurt. I actually really want an updated Deadpool.

Also I have been out of it for sometime so not sure what the consensus has been on the buildable figures. But can I be honest? I'm starting to warm up to them. Captain America is nothing special but I really love the buildable Wolverine and Batman. They do not fit into my current Superheroes display in any way and feel like the most random inclusion to my collection but it's like having a lego action figure? I used to love Action Figures as a kid and I love Lego so idk maybe I will pick Wolverine up.

Sometimes Lego does gimmicks that work and sometimes they don't. The current mech and action figure gimmick are cute to me. I would prefer battle packs with multiple figures at a $15 price point but that's more nostalgia Star Wars than anything Superheroes has really ever done. For what we're getting I'm fairly satisfied.

Marvel just announced some content from season 3 of Spidey and his amazing friends! Yellow highlights on the 3 spiders and some new characters including the Thing and Lockjaw. I assume we will be getting some sets based on the series - though based on lack of new minifigures in the last wave I think it’s unlikely we get the Thing or Lockjaw or H.E.R.B.I.E.

Last season had antman, wasp and Reptil so it would be cool to get those as minifigures even in the stylised 4+ version.

Please tell me that there will be Deadpool 3 sets because It's a movie I'm really looking forward too and I want a new Deadpool figure based from the movies, I do have 2 of the 2012 Deadpool figures but I prefer Live Action costumes more and it's about time they make a new Deadpool figure, we got The Punisher who is way more violent than Deadpool is.

Deadpool 3 will be R-rated though, so tie-in sets can be ruled out. Sure, Deadpool is a bit different from other R-rated franchises, but still, I highly doubt they’re willing to cross that line  If you‘ve seen the first two movies, you know why.

I can already see the headlines if this ended up happening regardless. “Kids not allowed to see movie their LEGO toys are inspired by. Karen wants to speak to Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen“. Unless they want to advertise playsets to adults only, which would be weird. Imagine the 18+ label suddenly being an actual age restriction rather than a recommendation :laugh_hard:

I think the branding on the packaging is the last problem, if Lego intends to exploit the film it can do so without worrying about the rating… I am more concerned about the overlapping of the characters, it seems difficult to justify sets for x-men 97 and comics sets but separate for wolverine and deadpool. Obviously IF there will be sets for x-men 97

The issue with Deadpool is not that he's violent. Wolveriene is violent, Batman is violent, etc, they've all had movies with R-rating levels of violence (logan, snyder cut/BvS ultimate, etc). The issue with deadpool is that he's incredibly foulmouthed, not just in the "swearing in pain/anger" way, but in the "absolutely can't WAIT to tell kids exactly where babies come from" way. The deadpool movies love using shock humor.

It's like saying why can't we have Homelander when Superman's snapped Zod's neck.

The most I can see is them putting Deadpool in an X-men inspired set that also happens to contain wolveriene, but even that seems very, very, unlikely to me.

Factory leaks have become increasingly rare. Some minifigs still manage to slip through the cracks, but I expect the package/leaflet to leak first :classic:

Maybe they'll make sets from the older Fox marvel movies as pseudo tie-ins for Deadpool 3 like the original no way sets sort of based on far from home and homecoming.

Probably not but I'd love and X-2 blackbird with nightcrawler or minifigure of a Ioan Gruffud Mister Fantastic.

Shouldn't have to wait too long for official pictures. Also, I just realized Lego may provide our first look at Echo's new suit before we even get a trailer for the show.

I remember those old rumors we'd get Lego sets based off the Raimi and Webb Spider-Man films. As cool as that sounds, X-Men '97 feels like our best shot at getting Wolverine and the X-Men.

I'm curious if, assuming they make X-Men '97 sets, we'll get other heroes like the Fantastic Four since other Marvel heroes crossed over with the original 90s cartoon.
