Mandalorianknight Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Seeing the whole ship, I more or less stand by what I said earlier. It's pretty solidly built- I like the massive guns below the wings. It does even seem like solid value for $35, unlike baby rocket's ship. I think it's a good set in a vacuum, I'm just not sure it'll do well.
upliftingbricks Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Seeing whole thing hasnt improved my view on it. Its not bad just doesnt peak my interest in anyway
icm Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I think that's a pretty solid starfighter for $35. It's a good size, it looks sturdy and chunky, it's got excellent color blocking, and it integrates the spring-shooter and six-shooter parts really well into the places where its weapons ought to be. It looks much better value than baby Rocket's ship from 2023, and personally I think it looks better too.

Which is a shame as there is still lots of potential for decent sets from the guardians films.
poisonbricks Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 It's a very good looking little ship, and I appreciate the number of shooters built into it - some recent Marvel sets really struggle with having even the most basic levels of playability. Pretty substantial build, and Ronan makes this set more desirable for me as someone who missed out on him in the GotG1 wave.
Scarilian Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Considering the scale and what the design is, it looks alright. The stud shooters and launchers are encorporated in a way that looks appropriate. Below is a fan moc at a larger scale that gets the angles a lot better and feels more complete. I get the feeling the Warbird is not popular enough to warrant a larger scale though. On 12/7/2023 at 1:44 PM, Legocentrico said: Have you thought of any particular motivation? Probably licensing.

Arguably even if the demand for a fairly minor ship is low, I can still see a good Lego set selling well on its own merits. The official Warbird looks much better than I thought it would. In all honesty I was expecting something along the lines of 2017’s Ravager Attack, however there’s no denying Lego’s building techniques and the manner in which they achieve angles for ships has vastly improved even over the past few years alone. 2021’s Benatar really set the bar for Infinity Saga sets though. I feel like we’re due another model like that and the Milano seems like the perfect candidate. Can anyone venture a guess for why the value of sets like the Hoopty and X-Jet are so utterly egregious? I know sets get allocated a defined budget / piece count etc. but these examples are more extreme than usual. When the X-Jet and its price-point in particular was announced before the piece count was confirmed, I was hoping it would be similar to this year’s Quinjet; a sizeable build with a solid minifigure count and display value. I have a guess for each, both of which are cynical- For the hoopty, I think lego wasn't expecting it to do well from the start, and made the gamble that giving it an absurd price and then taking 20% off would net more sales than just selling it at a (slightly) more reasonable price. The old "People will buy a product $10 overpriced if it used to be $20 overpriced" trick. For the X-Jet, I think lego's pretty confident on the popularity of the X-men, and just thinks they'll be able to get away with it. We've seen lego throw insane prices on stuff more often recently...

Haha, I share your cynicism. For the latter, it just reeks of laziness to me, though of course the truth will be more nuanced. If you’re going to make an X-Jet after people have been literally begging for X-Men sets for years, why not put some more effort into it? But I suppose like you said, they know it’ll be popular so the effort isn’t warranted.

Not gonna touch the Hoopty discussion. In terms of the X-Jet, we haven’t seen it yet. It could have a large number of large pieces and that is what is driving up the price. We also haven’t seen Magento yet so he could be very detailed in terms of printing and there is a possibility the legs on the Cyclops figure weren’t the ones he comes with. And leaks have gotten piece counts and prices wrong before, so there may be some hope. We may well be getting substandard figures in an overpriced set (as all signs seem to point to), but I’m gonna hold off judging until we get pictures.
THELEGOBATMAN Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 It actually looks really substantial, considering the fact it has less than 300 pieces. Saying that, I'm not a big fan of the build.
danth Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 What do we think of the windscreen & dishes? Are they trans light blue, or trans dark blue, or one of the satin variations? I can never tell from these pics.

hvader Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Sandman NWH set leaked. Basically half of a construction figure but I think it looks nice. Lizard isnt the best but I’m just happy to finally get him
PRbrickbuilder Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Does Lizard have a tail piece? I can't quite see it.
BrickBob Studpants Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 That sandman is a lot better than I expected! The nose is kinda weird, but I don’t mind it too much And Lizard looks good too

hvader Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Oh man! That’s one heck of a combination model. Should I display mine like that??
Chris10 Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 A picture has just gone up of the set combined with the other NWH set. I was on the fence but that’s sold it for me.
ToaDraco Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Rocket's Warbird looks decent but without any other figures to entice me, I don't see myself getting it. The Sandman set is fantastic--- except for one major flaw: why on Earth did they not give Lizard digigrade legs!?! Seriously LEGO, you had ONE JOB. I absolutely hate how underutilized that leg piece is and this was the perfectly opportunity to use it, but nope.... *sigh* I guess I should be grateful they at least gave him a tail and leg printing. The faceprint is pretty rough though. I really love how the Sandman build came out, really smart idea to basically make it half of an action figure set and I love that they also gave it the nice rounded base and scaffolding so it can match the final battle set in a display.
THELEGOBATMAN Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) Honestly, mixed feelings on this set – particularly because it's not a great expansion, nor a great standalone set. The build is really good. Sandman looks awesome — the annoying thing is that there's only half of him. This makes it a pretty lacklustre standalone set. Can't imagine it being popular with kids. As an expansion it has another problem — the builds look amazing when combined, but two out of three minifigures are useless. As for Lizard... *sigh*. The prints are good, but the tail ruins the whole front. They shouldn't have printed the waist if they were gonna leave a huge unprinted strap above it. Demogorgon legs would have made it so much better too. Edited December 9, 2023 by THELEGOBATMAN
Mandalorianknight Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) "Oh, it's beautiful" Man, this is exactly what I wanted, and I didn't even know it. I was very against getting that head mold for sandman, but it looks excellent here. Not goofy at all. This is the best I think any of the constraction figures have looked, due to how it's meant to be a shifting mass of sand. The gray in it even works too, unlike a lot of the other figs, because he's sifting through scaffolding and gravel and whatnot. Lizard looks excellent as well. I have two minor complaints, but I don't think either are a big deal- I would have preferred if they'd made spidey or electro unique, either by giving spidey battle-damage on the mask and torso, or a normal face for electro- but neither are a particularly big deal, and the $35 value seems very solid as well for this set. Looking at the combined image and at the final battle set on my desk, the size is definitely there. Honestly lego's knocking it out of the part with these $30ish licensed sets between this and the star wars battle pack. I'm iffier on the Warbird but I can't say that one's bad value either, it's just not for me. Edited December 9, 2023 by Mandalorianknight
poisonbricks Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Definitely agree that Marvel's on a winning streak with these £30-ish sets. The Sandman set is great, first time I've wholeheartedly liked this new type of constraction figure. Good for display by itself and looks fun enough for play, but where it really shines is combining it with the final battle set from last year - it adds a LOT of mass and dynamic flavour to that model. Great way to add value to an older set without charging for a full remake.
