thebricksbear Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 Lizard will show up in 2024's "Ghost Spider Jet Ski vs. The Lizard" I guess I'm relieved I can limit my lego spending to Guardian's sets and the Disney/Marvel cmfs. This year looks like a bust for minifig collectors. I was going to skip the NWH set though, if its $100 maybe itll be worth it.

They have been almost as long around as Ninjago, technically longer if we count the 2008 trolls, which are kind of the prototype version of what would become the bigfig. I think after 10+ years they've earned their spot next to the minifigures. It's hard to think them away or think of a better way to do them. Especially after Thanos pretty much perfected the design. However that's perhaps also where the problem may lie. With the release of Thanos, all the other bigfigs have suddenly become outdated. We would only get a new bigfig mould maybe once or twice a year, most other bigfigs heavily relied on the molds that came before, simply being recolours. But with Thanos releasing, they couldn't simply release the old bigfigs again, that would be a step back. And releasing a Hulk or Sandy in that style would require new molds for the hair. So it might have been way simpler to simply ditch the bigfigs altogether. Truly a shame.
Matichado Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 Hey everyone does anyone know if the Statue of Liberty set will include an MCU Iron Spider Minifig or if that armor is appearing in any of the new summer sets?

I'm just kind of worried about the build at this price point. I was hoping for a statue of liberty I could easily display next to the sanctum and daily bugle, oh well. I'm of the same mind. Glad the long awaited NWH set is finally coming but I have no real desire for the head of the Statue of Liberty by itself. Excited for the figures though. Hopefully the Goblin, Ock and Electro aren't too unreasonably priced second hand (although considering what's happened to prices recently I won't hold my breath).

Veramente un peccato. they changed Hulk several times, toupee, smooth feet, feet with toes, I don't see why a new piece to apply on his head should be a problem. They do it every day for the minifigures, it just needs to be bigger… Not to mention there are big figs that don't need additional pieces like that Venom. we have 50 venom, now we also have groot-venom, but not the big fig??? I just don't understand
wesker Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Nice to have confirmation on the NWH Statue of Liberty battle but its pretty disappointing that there's only two minifigure based sets coming this wave with the other being a 4+ set with repeat characters. Not getting Ant-Man, Wasp, Kang, MODOK, Lizard, the X-Men or updated versions of Hulk and Hawkeye to go along with the Quinjet crew feels like a real missed opportunity. Hopefully the CMF series and next Marvel D2C can turn things around and cross a couple names off the list.
Kaijumeister Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 (edited) Some thoughts: - NWH Statue of Liberty: YES. I’m not expecting the best build given the piece count, but hopefully all the minifigures are top-notch. Let’s not forget Promobricks speculated upon a second possible set, so that’s how we may get Lizard. - Buildable Figures: Honestly, is the demand for these that substantial? Just seems like a waste of slots, but I’m sure kids will enjoy these. Not so sure why Lego wants to get into the action figure market so badly though, especially when Marvel Legends figures are cheaper than these. - Venomised Groot: I’m sure it’ll look cool, but again, who is asking for this sort of thing? - Ant-Man: All the hype for seeing what the May set entails and it’s just another buildable figure. It would have been more than fine if Wasp and Kang were included as minifigures at least. Seems quite pathetic. - Captain America’s Shield: I’ll paraphrase Ultron, “A $200 price point, and they use it to make a frisbee.” I’m sure it’ll look great on display though, and wonder if this entails an Iron Man helmet / repulsor gauntlet / Arc Reactor D2C for next year. - Captain America and Black Widow Motorcycles: Given that we got the 4+ AoU Cap just two years ago, I hope this one is based on the Winter Soldier film. I’m beyond excited for the No Way Home set(s), and sincerely hope the wait will be worth it, alternative heads for the three Spideys would be great! As for everything else, why is there such an emphasis on non-System scaled sets? Buildable figures, another Groot, Captain’s Shield…is the budget for new minifigures being eaten up by something? Edited February 12, 2023 by Kaijumeister
Lemerbrix Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 I swear guys, if the venom groot buildable’s name isn’t “I am venom” I’ll riot
GoldenNinja3000 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Wow, these sets definitely sound like a mixed bag. I liked the buildable Spider-Man figures, but I don't think it works for non-helmeted humans. Wolverine might look cool but I don't think Cap will. Ant-Man getting one of those instead of a proper Giant-Man remake is extremely disappointing. I would've killed for a $60 buildable Giant-Man in the Harry/Hermione style from 2021, especially if it included Wasp, Cassie, Kang, and MODOK. That would be the perfect Quantumania set. Hopefully there's a secret second one coming or the set includes at least three minifigures, because if not it could be the most disappointing MCU set to date. The NWH battle sounds amazing! 9 minifigures for $100?! I'm expecting a small-ish build for the price but hopefully standout figures. LEGO cannot skimp on leg printing here like they always do in other Marvel sets. I don't care too much about Lizard so I'm not that bothered by his absence, but definitely would've preferred him over Ned or even Doctor Strange. Not sure why everyone is so surprised at the price for Cap's shield. Of course it's $200 and 3,000 pieces - how else would LEGO make it look good enough to display? Thor's Hammer was a $100 set, if the shield was done at that price point it would be the size of a dinner plate. I'm hoping this is life-size (or close) to match with the hammer and it'll include wall hanger pieces for display. Very excited for it since it's a no-brainer buildable object for Marvel! Venmized Groot is weird. I know Hot Toys made one but why would LEGO? Did the other Groot set sell well enough to warrant this? I didn't like that one very much and while I think Venomized characters are cool, it seems like a useless set. Cap and Black Widow sounds great, I love the Batman and Catwoman motorcycle set from 2021 so I'm expecting good things here too. Hopefully Cap is in his stealth suit and we're getting a Winter Soldier-era Natasha. After all the sets we got in 2022, I'm actually glad we aren't getting so many this year. It's nice to have a little breather. I just wish the MCU would recognize that too!

spiderfan2000 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 I guess the most logical way we could get Lizard at this point is if we got a set of the FEAST truck, which could also include May and possibly Jameson, plus some repeated Spider-Man variant.
Nylock Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 3 hours ago, Quicksilver838 said: Nothing to say it isn't right? True, iirc there isn’t a scene in TWS (or AoU for that matter) where both Widow and Cap had a bike together. Seems weird that it’s a set with just cap and widow with no bad guy. Guess there’s always the small chance that this isn’t even mcu based. BUT if this really is based on TWS I’ll be so happy finally getting the stealth suit cap, but also a bit peeved that we don’t get the winter soldier himself. 2 minutes ago, spiderfan2000 said: I guess the most logical way we could get Lizard at this point is if we got a set of the FEAST truck, which could also include May and possibly Jameson, plus some repeated Spider-Man variant. Yeah that would be the most likely way we could get him, and I just don’t see that happening to be honest. Still the set is a 10/10 for me, but with lizard it would’ve been the undisputed best marvel set of all time. imo
spiderfan2000 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 It would just seem really bizarre if Lizard doesn't turn up anywhere at all, considering he shouldn't even require any new molded parts now that the T-Rex costume tail piece exists.

Meaf Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 What a strange assortment of sets. Is venomized Groot based on anything or did Lego just mash together two popular characters for that one? To switch gears completely, while I get the disappointment over Kang not being made, I think the bigger problem is everyone else. We already know he's coming back, whereas we may not ever have a shot at getting most of the main cast again. Also, on the topic of big figs, I'd just like to throw out the idea that maybe Lego is working on improving them. I think the big weakness has always been that they're stuck kinda hunched over, so perhaps we will see a new design with adjustable legs at some point. Big figs fill a role that can't really he replicated fully by minifigs or brick built characters, so I doubt they'll be completely axed.
