May I possibly get your guys' help with my situation? Originally I planned to take Friday, September 1 off to wait in line for Gringotts BUT with my new job, I asked if I could come in a bit later (12pm instead of my usual 11am).

With stores opening at 10am, what should my plan of attack be? Do I line up at the mall at 8? Will I be in and out the door by 10:30? Will there even be a long wait for this D2C ala Star Wars and non-Harry Potter sets?

I am hoping I can snag a pre-order and not worry about this at all!

Thanks in advance, everyone.

(Can you guys believe Gringotts will be with us in a WEEK?!)

I think that depends on which store you’re going to and how popular HP is in your area  Maybe you can ask employees if people stood in line for the previous 4 D2C sets, especially DA?

First find out when they open doors for the mall, not the listed hours. For example at my mall, the hours state the mall opens at 10 but the guard usually opens the doors around 9:20. So I usually aim to get to the mall at 9:00 and stake out just in case there’s a crowd but it’s usually not the case. This usually gets me in the very front of the line. It helped a lot when the Indiana Jones sets went on sale and there was such limited stock, I got all of them with ease. In your case I’d show up 8:30 since you don’t when the guard unlocks the door for extra insurance. Most of the time, I’m out the Lego store itself by 10:15/10:30. This wait is definitely going to be one of the tougher ones imo. We have our first Republic Gunship and Ghost in 10 years so I’m assuming the Star Wars boys will be out in full force which will definitely add to the line. And given the general popularity of Gringotts’s, I’m personally a bit worried how this one plays out. Diagon Alley had some long lines and that’s without the centerpiece and Star Wars sets. But that’s the fun of it, you never know what you getting.

What about new Lego Harry Potter game?

There is no new LEGO Harry Potter game, it was nothing more than a rumor. LEGO and Traveler's Tales are through working together due to working conditions / culture at TT. (we've discussed that latter bit before and don't need to rehash it further.. it's off topic)

It really depends A LOT on the store you’re going to. I’ve never really had a problem with Harry Potter at my local store, but NASA sets often sell out day of here. It’s really going to depend on your local demographics. It might be worth calling up your store and just asking if they tend to sell out of new Harry Potter D2Cs on a regular basis and how quickly it happens.

Thank you for all your help you guys! I sincerely appreciate it. I will definitely ask the store how I should approach Friday.

Gringott's releases in 5 days, how do we seriously still not have any official confirmation of the GWP release date? For anyone who has a good memory, is this normal?

I'm wondering when we'll get set names for the 2024 sets, seeing as we have one for Star Wars?

I was wondering the same thing. We usually got the HP set descriptions shortly after the SW ones, but this year, nothing, rien, nichts, nada. They're either saving it for something, there were no pictures or names included in the catalogue, or one of the insiders got busted :shrug_oh_well:

First LAN reviews are out now for Gringotts Bank. For example:

Thanks! It's really nice to finally see all of the details

Solid Brix posted his review as well, and he's showing multiple different ways to connect Gringotts to DA:

Glad it's not just me; I thought I was being impatient or had got my timescales completely wrong, but it feels odd having set names for the other big licensed property and nothing on this front. :shrug_oh_well:

I agree on it beeing strange since you would think that the information usually come from sellers that get their catalogues to order the sets from Lego early on. Last year we had that information already ad this point. On the other side we got the setnumbers so I don´t really mind to wait for more informations.

It’s not uncommon for us to not see anything official until the last minute. Especially recently. I’ve noticed several promos recently where I only heard about them ahead of time because the rumors went round in the leaker community, and the first time I saw anything from lego was when the promo went live on their site.

2024 names should be pretty soon, I wouldn't get your hopes up for anything mind blowing with this wave sadly...

Thank you for letting us know. :) I'm guessing you are referring to the winter wave?

We should be expecting a lot of remakes then, I suppose :snicker: Not surprised to be honest, with price points this low the sets have to be pretty basic. Still hoping for some cool minifigs, animals, and accessories at least, if the set choices themselves end up being boring :shrug_oh_well:

I mean, at this point we’re going into the seventh year of the reboot and the original run had ten years of sets before that. At this point there’s only a handful of locations and things they haven’t done in Lego form yet, although if you don’t count the original run in the ‘00s it gets slightly larger.

The fact of the matter is that Harry Potter is pretty static in regards to content, so we’re unlikely to get anything ‘mind blowing’ out of just set names anytime soon. We’ll just need to be patient and wait to see the actual builds being given to us before we pass judgement.

Yeah. All seven sets and Brickheadz pack should be March 2024 releases

Exactly. We should consider ourselves lucky that we only had a handful of remakes of post-reboot sets in 6 years  Compared to other themes *cough* galaxy far far away *cough* or even the pre-2018 iterations of HP, the low number of them is actually close to a miracle! HP must be like TLG‘s favourite child :snicker:

Also, as mentioned before, for me personally, Gringotts and the Death Eater were the last things missing that I absolutely needed from the theme. Everything else they release in the future, I condider a bonus :classic:

I'm in the same boat as you. Except it Was Grintoss and Rita Skeeter that were the last things I was missing. Only thing left that isn't necessary to me, but would be the icing on the cake is the wedding dress Hermione. I made a MOC with Decals and I love it, but a genuine one would be even better.

LEGO.com just updated with a "Go Back to Hogwarts with us - starting 9/1" link at the top of the page.

There is a countdown. For me on the west coast of the US, that would be Thursday, 9pm. I wonder if that is when pre-orders for Gringotts will go live!

No, that’s when VIP/Insiders access to the  set goes live on their website, no preorders involved. The American site strictly uses EST so us folks on the west coast don’t have to stay up late to see website updates.

EDIT:

just checked the info link on shop@home and the main blurb says:

“Go Back to Hogwarts™ – 9/1-9/10

Join us for a LEGO® Harry Potter™ celebration filled with new sets, gifts, sales, fan challenges and more.”

So I think we might have a cut off date for the Gringotts vault gwp for those interested.

The sales, sadly, will probably be exclusively on older sets, but I’m curious to see what those fan challenges are.

Don’t mind a bunch of cheap remakes if that’s the case. I’m more tempted to buy remakes of cheaper sets for a couple new things than the remakes of larger sets we got this year. What remakes could we really get at those pricepoints though?
