Oh! So there's only two then: Quidditch and Gringotts? Perfect! This local chain store Target in the states always have polybags a few months after the initial release so I'm not worried about that one. So I just have to prepare myself for the Gringotts GWP but it sounds like the big Gringotts D2C will cover it. Thank you guys so much! I didn't want to be screwed like last year where I had trouble getting one Moving Staircase GWP. :)

I didn't want to be screwed like last year where I had trouble getting one Moving Staircase GWP. :) Yeah, the Staircase promo was definitely odd in the sense that almost all of the Lego exclusive Harry Potter GWPs have come in the fall sometime after the D2C release, but the Staircase came in late summer for some reason. I kinda lucked out in that I hadn’t bought all the summer sets for myself yet, but I can see how it would have messed other people up. Thankfully, the rumored subject of this year’s gwp implies it ties directly into this year’s big D2C, so anyone who’s interested in Gringott’s is probably good to go.

Gryffindor Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Hey guys! Any idea on when we might start seeing set descriptions pop up for the summer wave?
krimimimi Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 (edited) @Gryffindor, there was a promobricks video that gave some initial descriptions of the summer (and possibly autumn) sets. We're probably not likely to see anything substantially better until April when the sets appear on the lego S@H, at least if they follow the last couple of years' pattern anyway. Are you referring to the initial Promobricks video (where set names were revealed)? I thought the descriptions from that were mostly speculation. If there’s been a more recent update, I’ll have to check it out. I thought that Promobricks teased having descriptions a few weeks ago, but as far as I’ve seen nothing has come from it other than a vague description of the new microscale Hogwarts.
krimimimi Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 (edited) @Rolyat24, yes the video from mid-January. We now have most of the set names, most of the piece counts and most of the prices of the sets from a reputable source, as well as the news about a GWP, but you're correct that the video was largely speculative as to what those sets comprised. (And they've already corrected one of their guesses re: the Knight Bus.) Other than that, I believe the only things that seemed to be certain as to the contents were that the Gringotts set would be compatible with Diagon Alley and yet somehow come with tracks that "went below", and the buildable Dobby comes with Harry's sock that frees the house elf and the cake he uses to attempt to keep Harry from returning to school in CoS. I believe for all the rest it was guesswork, although names like "the Quidditch Trunk" lend themselves to it, I should think. The two previous years we've had information on the sets from Promobricks in early- to mid-February, and official pictures of the sets were released roughly the second week of April. BacktoBricks Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 (edited) I stayed up until midnight last night waiting for the new sets. Whilst Lego kicked me out into a queue, Amazon not only had the new sets available but even ordering just after midnight they were able to deliver the same day. So I got myself the new Black Lake set. First set I've ever actually managed to get a set on release day. Fast forward a few hours and the set arrived and I've now got it built and on display. It's so cute and colourful. I added a transparent bar to pose Harry and Krum on, something I think Lego could have included or your a bit limited from a display point of view, and now all I could wish for is a CMF Series 3 so as to get Cedric and Fleur in their second task outfits to go with the set as I can't see where else we would get those figs. But I'm so glad they redid this set; I had just gone into my dark age when the first Goblet Of Fire wave came out and I have loved the old set since getting back into Lego but the price had gone crazy high. So glad I waited as this one is a decent upgrade and I finally have a merperson and also a cheeky little Grindylow. Edited March 1, 2023 by BacktoBricks
NostalgicBricks Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Lovely photo @BacktoBricks and I'm glad you got your set on release day. After work I'm going to build that set, too (I already had a sneak peak at the Grindylow and they've made an evil looking creature so cute). I had a gift card for another shop and I got the Slytherin banner from there, so when I went to the Lego store and bought the rest of the March wave the woman asked if I wasn't a Slytherin fan hehe. Truthfully I'm not but I wouldn't miss out on one. I've only built the Gryffindor one so far and I'm sooo happy to finally get another Gryffindor common room after 22 years! The moving insert if giving me nostalgia for those sets with the cardboard backdrops (which luckily I kept from childhood). It makes me happy to finally have Angelina, The Grey Lady, Pansy, Blaise and a PROPER KRUM! I'm now even more excited to see what the rest of 2023 has in store for us... I also got the DOTs because I had a 10% off code for a website but they haven't been dispatched yet.
krimimimi Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) @BacktoBricks That's nice! I pre-ordered that set three weeks ago, and they've only just mailed that it's shipped, which is something of a disappointment. I think I'm looking forward to the Grindylow most, Krum's shark piece reprint is a close second though. Including the reprints, recolours and new moulds, which new pieces of the March sets are people most looking forward to do people think are the best (or just the most useful)? I think expanding the House uniforms is also very promising, and would have ranked first for me if they weren't gated behind such comparatively pricey sets (as opposed to Accessory Packs). Edit: because @NostalgicBricks gave me another idea, which is your favourite minifig / the one you're most looking forward to? I'm going with the Grey Lady, although Blaise Zabini is a close second, because we haven't as many POC parts to MOC him with. Edited March 2, 2023 by krimimimi
Clone OPatra Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 Though I only plan on getting the Black Lake, the thing I like best about this entire March wave is all the previous wrongs they are righting with Minifigure design. They've done new proper faces for Draco, Krum and Cedric, and given Cho a much better skin tone. Those are all great to see. But personally since I'm only getting the Black Lake, on the part front I look forward to the Grindylow which will go nicely with the Pixie, and for Minifigures I always like getting more sleeping head options.
BacktoBricks Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Thank you @NostalgicBricks The photo had to be shrunk because of the EB file size limit so it's a bit grainy I know, but I think it shows the idea. Haha sounds like you're a secret Slytherin. I never had the sets with the cardboard back drops as much as I did want them. I did have Hagrid's Hut and the original castle with the paper roofs and my goodness was the Hagrid's Hut one annoying. Glad we have moved on from those. Not sure I love the idea of too much cardboard in sets, but I get the use for the banners although I think it has inflated the price tag. I really want the minifigures from the banners, but not the builds (Lego definitely knows what they are doing here) so can't justify dropping full price for them, but hopefully will be able to get them discounted pretty soon and certainly before they retire at the end of the year or find the minifigures cheap enough. I hope you have a great time building the set. It's a quick build, but very colourful. @krimimimi The shark piece is very cool. The only problem is the fact that his legs needed dual moulding really, but I'm still chuffed to bits we got him. Harry needed dual legs too really, but that is excusable as they haven't done dual moulded mid legs yet. I hope you get your sets soon! My most desired minifigure from this year has to be the merperson. Such a cool minifigure that looks very movie accurate and I wanted the old one really bad, but this one is such an improvement and I love it! So that and probably the Grindylow are my most wanted pieces from the March sets. I do love that we are getting a couple more uniform variations. I would love to see one in the future with a sleeveless jumper print, particularly a Gryffindor one like Neville is seen wearing in the Room of Requirment scenes in Order of the Phoenix.
krimimimi Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 That's a good point, @Clone OPatra, I wasn't trying to gate it behind actual purchases, I was more interested in the things people are intellectually pleased with, whether they're actually getting them or not. And realistically, a new piece here could mean it's more likely to turn up again elsewhere, or maybe folks will just bricklink it later. So if people are excited about that new tile in the Banners sets, even if they'll never own the set, that's what I was interested in hearing.
krimimimi Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) @BacktoBricks as it's Thursday afternoon now, I imagine I'll be sat here waiting until Monday at the least. Here I'd hope I'd jumped the queue and might even see them arriving before the 1st, but no such luck. I feel thwarted. Weren't some of the CMFs midi legs dual moulded? I thought figs like Waldorf, Dr. Honeydew and Petunia Pig had been, but I don't own those and can't check. It might just be printing on the sides. Anyone? https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?pg=1&q=970cm&catLike=W&catString=1118&sortBy=N&sortAsc=A&catType=P&v=1 What other pieces are people using for water-swept hair? I think there might have been another promising one in the Vidiyo minifigs I now need to look for... Edit: No, unfortunately it was the unicorn and guitarist leopard's hairstyles, but those are part of the head pieces, so not useful here. Edit 2: Kai's hair might be useful (when he isn't wearing a hood). There are a couple of Hidden Things pieces that would also have been interesting, but they all seem to be only in that yellowish green. Edited March 2, 2023 by krimimimi

They're all just side printed, not dual moulded. They could've printed Harry's foot areas in the same fashion, but knowing LEGO's light nougat printing on black, it's probably better they didn't.

The Pinocchio CMF figure looks to have red mid legs with nougat printing, but alas black shoe print as well. Usually those are thicker colors but I'm not sold on the inside and backs being such a dominant hue. So close.
Seaber Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 I've got plenty of 2022 sets to catch up on before I get any from this year so look forward to seeing people's thoughts when they have them in hand. All the talk of the GWP means I'll likely pick some 22/23 sets up as and when that comes out. Are we anticipating the Cho polybag and something from Gringotts and that's it?
krimimimi Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 @Seaber, yes that was it. The vault and possibly the polybag.
Rolyat24 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Has anyone built one of the banners yet? I’m thinking about MOCing them into modules for Hogwarts but am curious how the paper/cardboard inserts work. How are they held in place? Would they fit between two bricks? Ideally I’d like there to be room to add an exterior layer on the back side.
Brickity Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 (edited) Recently got the black lake set. It’s a very nice set and tops the OG one easily. Some trans clear bars to attach the mermaid and perhaps Krum and Harry would’ve been nice. In my opinion Krum needed either printed or dual molded legs, and Hermione needs to shed that Carina Smith print once and for all. I also think a dark blue baseplate bigger enough to put the boat in would’ve been nice, otherwise it’s just at the bottom of the lake which doesn’t make sense haha. The inclusion of the little room at the top with its mugs is very welcome! I love that top floor. Overall a very solid set. Edited March 3, 2023 by Brickity
Mordarch Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 As some of the others here, I also got the Black Lake set. I have it displayed with some extra figures like the Fred & George CMFs and the Gabrielle Delacour figure with the sleeping face now really comes in handy (I love that LEGO made sure to include that when the carriage released). I would love a Fleur and Cedric 2nd task versions though. I've no plans to buy a second Black Lake set, but if you want to display all the prisoners it might be the best option, a second tower also gives you more place for figures.

In the sets it is held in place against the rear wall by four tap pieces used as clips, and gravity. If you're MOCing them into a modular-design, you'll probably need a stud's width of space for the insert and whatever you use to hold the insert in place. Honestly, I love the Ravenclaw banner I've got; it's neat and attractive but far less fidley to re-assemble / store than the earlier Moments books. Not sure how they could do more banners next year, unless maybe they do Quidditch teams?

I may just pick one up that I like the most and fiddle around with it to see if I can make it work in an 8x16 layout. I love the common rooms but really have no desire for the banner aspect.
