The biggest part in DA set it's WWW shop, with 1624 pieces.e. It's true that inside Gringott there's not too much, but Gringott upper part should be taller than WWW, and while WWW is just on a 16x32 baseplate Gringott could be deeper; LEGO could also add something we never seen like office or similar... so it could easily exceed 2000 pieces. Then you have, probably, to add the dragon. And then there's the underground section with carriage and railway track. How did LEGO decided to realizes this part? How massive? I don't think there will be enough pieces for a second building, also considering that in case you would have to add foundation even for this section.

Sure I'm wrong, but I think we could still get all the bank items PLUS two new stores. (However, if I had to choose what to explore, I would prefer new stores, compatible with the old ones) The real problem, in my opinion, is that Diagon Alley is old now and Lego loves to update themes. I'm afraid a new Gringotts might start a new DA system… Edited March 31, 2023 by Legocentrico

Does the possibility of a DA:WWW set make you hopeful or worried about what appears to be a new direction they're taking? Also can't help wondering about the impact of Marcos Bessa's departure on the development. Personally I would just have Gringotts, Leaky Cauldron, and Borgin and Burkes so it could still be compatible with 2020 Diagon Alley and more display oriented. Have the Dragon and Vault as a play set instead of mucking up the the D2Cs.

I admit that my first idea about Gringott was a Diagon Alley budget set, with Gringott + Borgin & Burke's + Leaky Cauldron. No underground section, everything compatible with Diagon Alley set. And a secon set, something more like a playset, with vaults and the dragon. 25 minutes ago, krimimimi said: Does the possibility of a DA:WWW set make you hopeful or worried about what appears to be a new direction they're taking? My major regret, in case they totally change Diagon Alley style, is the lack of a DA compatible Leaky Cauldron. Of course, I can design it on my own but I would have been interested to see the LEGO solution (I admit that untill now I never even tryed cause I feared LEGO would have presented the set in the same moment I would have put the last brick ). Anyway, remakes are unavoidable in an evergreen theme. And while it's true there's a lot of scenes LEGO has not produced yet, some of them could never see the daylight: new customers entering in the theme will probably more easily buy appreciated and iconic set (Great Hall, The Burrow, Hagrid's Hut, Hogwarts Express, WWW...) more than some obscure set with some rare carachters. And LEGO will try to satisfy also them (and LEGO own wallet ). In general, I'm really happy to have followed this theme since 2018 and had the possibility to buy so many and very good sets and minifigures. I'm waiting some images to give a proper opinion on expected and predicted sets and on the theme as a whole.
bRICKbRAT Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 I don’t understand the logic of making Gringotts and not having it compatible with DA. If that was the case then DA would have been retired last year especially if we are getting a WWW play set this year.

So do you feel like Gringotts will be on a baseplate to fit with the first Diagon Alley or could it maybe have a slightly different foundation to fit with the new WWW and incorporate underground vaults? with 3 different diagon alley sets since 2019 at least two of them should look good together aha

That’s if the underground connects to the bottom of Gringotts or it’s a side build that’s included in the D2C.

Can't believe this timing! I posted this MOC when I did to wrap up the project before my wife's due date and what a surprise to check back after the baby was born to find this update! Hogsmeade Station is definitely a hole at the moment so it makes sense, but didn't expect TLG to come out with another HE that highlights it specifically. Looking forward to seeing what version they chose to represent My guess is that it's the smaller Wizarding World version since that was designed specifically for the films. Also, I can confirm that I do not have a WWW MOC in the works! Haha
MaxHeadroom Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Hearing King NoNo brings back memories lmao. I’ve got two thoughts on all this, assuming it’s true 1. If they were going to make a playscale DA series they should’ve just saved the Gringotts underground for that and included a basement free Gringotts building with the 2020 DA in the first place. It would’ve saved so much time, effort, and heartache. It’s also unfortunate that we’ve got what will still probably be the best version of the buildings with the 2020 set, but we now need to track down probably $30+ worth of new parts, minifigures, and prints from the new set to perfect the original. I 100% understand making these individual sets though. Kids shouldn’t need to spend $400 to get the location of DA and experience the general wizard shops play style (although Hogsmeade covered that ground well for awhile), $90 is already more than expensive enough. It’s just frustrating for us collectors. I’m not sure if I’ll buy these remade DA sets. I guess I’ll see how they turn out or if I happen to get one as a gift or something. 2. These sets we have less info on aren’t mass retail and are more limited right? If so, why is the Express being rereleased here? Surely it’s the kind of thing that should be accessible everywhere and be on shelves for many years like the 2018 one was. I doubt I’ll get this as I’ve already got the 2010 and 2018 sets and they’re some of my least favorites because of how much horizontal space they take up instead of vertical. They always have to be at the front of a shelf if I want to see them. A hogsmeade station side build sounds okay but not cool enough that I’d spend $130 on it and want to deal with another train. Never thought the hogsmeade station was that visually interesting anyway. In general I have a very different take on remakes than most people (or the ones with the most disposable income) seem to. Personally I’d rather remakes either be so different they might as well be new (like the 2021 castle remakes on paper if they were actually focused on interiors) or I’d rather they slowly improve over time with minor new parts and techniques but not actually include anything particularly desirable in each update like a figure or side build. Id love to just have them in the background easy to ignore until one day over time they’ve naturally improved enough from the last version I bought to be worth getting again.
krimimimi Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Congrats on the new addition, @Brick Wiz. (Is it too early to start them on Duplo?) It was a very nice MOC, btw. As for expectations... 2001 4708 HE 1st edition - PS Platform 9 3/4 2004 4758 HE 2nd edition - Hogsmeade Station (lite), PoA Lupin & Dementor 2004 10132 HE (2nd edition?) motorised - Hogsmeade Station (more proper), PoA Lupin & Dementor With the exception of 5378 (released in 2007), there were no new sets in the theme from 2006 through 2009. 2010 4841 HE 3rd edition - CoS Ford Anglia (but also Ginny and Luna?) There were no new sets in the theme from 2012 through 2017. 2018 75955 HE 4th Edition - Platform 9 3/4, PS / PoA Lupin & Dementor 2022 76405 HE Collectors' Edition - Platform 9 3/4, PS / PoA / HBP / Epilogue I'd say we were overdue for a Hogsmeade Station, plus it allows them to continue their Hogsmeade sets (without having to commit to it in a larger fashion as stand alones). The next HE should have the Anglia again if they stuck to the rota. They're fond of it anyway. I wonder if they'll bridge the gap with the Forbidden Forest spiders / Anglia rescue scene?
krimimimi Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 @MaxHeadroom 1) I agree completely about making some version of DA accessible to children (or smaller budgets) as well, but if that's the goal, then I have to seriously wonder about gating Gringotts in a $430 set. And likewise, why include the play features there instead of continuing in the style of the 2020 DA D2C? Sounds like a mishmash. 2) They should be, yes. At least in Germany, initially the HE was a S@H exclusive, then it was S@H and TRUs, and only slowly did it become available at other stores. I just went back and checked. If you're interested, look here https://www.brickmerge.de/75955-1_lego-harry-potter-hogwarts-express click "PREISENTWICKLUNG ANZEIGEN" and then select the far right potion "alles Anzeigen". To the left of the graph you'll see that it was only sold at a few stores for quite some time. The first reduction in price wasn't until Smyths took over TRUs about a year after the initial release.
BrickBob Studpants Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 @Brick Clicker is teasing a new rumour video for later today (which hopefully won’t be postponed last minute this time )! This likely involves the promised info on the HP sets, even though @bRICKbRAT kinda stole his thunder a bit already Infos on the minifigs would be especially welcome, as those are the only thing that could save these lackluster set choices for me.

Back in 2020 they maybe planned on saving Gringotts as it’s own thing for later and figured they could wait a few years and string collectors along for awhile. Then they realized they wanted to do this new playscale DA line and now have to finally finish what they started because collectors would (rightfully) be pissed if they bought a $400 setup and it was forever missing the most important part. They could’ve just made it an above ground thing for less than half the price but I think because they waited 3 years to finally do it, expectations were raised to astronomical levels. Over the last few years we’ve seen Gringotts go from something people wanted and were expecting to the most important and hyped up set of the entire line. Back in 2021 they could’ve just released an above ground D2C + a play based vault set and included the dragon with either of them and I think everyone would’ve been happy but that’s not the case anymore. It’s been so long that I’m not entirely sure if it’s even about finishing the DA, a Gringots D2C is just its own thing now which people want on it’s own. It definitely does seem like a mishmash but I’m not sure there’s any other way they can do it and satisfy fans without a time machine to go back and either release it in 2021 or make it part of the 2020 set like it probably should’ve been in the first place.

When people think of Gringotts they usually think about the Mine Carts and Dragon. LEGO would be foolish to leave out those two elements from the Gringotts D2C. Especially when the building would be so plain without those elements included. I do agree that I hate the idea of Gringotts being raised to fit the mine cart section but it sounds like it’s an optional thing to include. My main concern is if this set will be solely centered on PS or mostly DH. Edited April 2, 2023 by bRICKbRAT
domen151 Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) According to Brick Clicker, the 89$ set will be a playset version of DA: Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, and the 129$ one will be Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station. Did not expect this at all, but I am curious about how the WWW will look like in this form :) Edited April 2, 2023 by domen151
BrickBob Studpants Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Yeah, no new information then. Since we now know about all the sets, time for a year ranking: 6. 2021 5. 2023 4. 2019 3. 2018 2. 2022 1. 2020 2023 could still rise in the ranks with the right minifig selection. Kinda doubtful tho

NostalgicBricks Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 I cannot wait to see pictures of this wave because, as of right now, it seems extremely messy. I'm not going to try and speculate any more until we've seen them. Pictures were unveiled last year on Friday, April 8th to coincide with The Secrets of Dumbledore (I will never forget the excitement of seeing the commercial for Dumbledore's Office in the cinema!) so perhaps we can expect them sometime in the next 2-3 weeks.

For me, it‘s the minifigs. The more I think about it, the less likely an interesting selection becomes, though. Gringotts actually cannot offer that much beside goblins, Hermione polyjuiced as Bellatrix, and Dragomir Despard. Maybe Bill, if we‘re really lucky. The BoH is rather limited too since we already have all of the relevant combatants. Ron and Scabior, perhaps? Masked Death Eaters can pretty much be ruled out too. HE: no idea. New version of Hagrid maybe? WWW: better Lavender Quidditch trunk: Lee Jordan? Yeah… Even the best case probably won‘t change my ranking.
NostalgicBricks Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 I'm very surprised we didn't get a new Hagrid's Hut this summer. I hope we see one in March 2024 with a new Fang and Hagrid without his overcoat.
JeanGreyForever Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I wonder if they'd include characters like Lupin and Tonks in the BoH set, since even though they do die we never actually see them die onscreen.
