It's took a long time with this version of hogwarts but, it's starting to make for a seriously impressive model given the new combination picture.

The Battle of Hogwarts looks much better in other pictures. The alternate build is a big improvement imo.

It really should've included some scenery to make it feel like an actual battle — fire, rubble, knight statues, acromantulas or trolls etc.

OH NO HE’S HOT!  THE COMBINED HOGWARTS IS GORGEOUS. I hate this, it’s making reconsider my stance on not buying the Green roof addition.

That Hogwarts set looks fantastic. It looks as though you can dismantle it an create the main viaduct that leads to the Great Hall.

The connected Hogwarts is insane. The 2018-2020 sets were good but I love how modular this one feels rather than just stickg them together in a line.

Agreed.

Completely agree.

Knight statues and a Troll would have made it worthy.

I think many will share that view. Can’t wait to see videos soon!

Wow, it does look fantastic combined. Perhaps Lego were masterminds and had this all planned from the beginning. Still, I'd like to move on from this Hogwarts style soon, please. Besides, I display the sets interior-facing.

I've just been thinking about the Battle of Hogwarts, and I agree that I just can't understand how they could make a set based on this set without statues, giants or spiders etc.

Remember the years and years of dead Eurobricks HP threads?

Seeing this new combined Hogwarts makes me so happy. This 2023 wave may not be the best since 2018, but the fact we have so much LEGO Harry Potter content since the 2018 reboot makes me so giddy. We're getting everything I could have possibly wished for when the theme ended in 2011. I find it hard to complain too much with remakes, since it just means that HP is selling well and LEGO wants it to last :)

The lack of one doesn't give me hope for the troll in the bathroom being made, which is probably my most wanted set.

Anyone spotted the CGI error on the back of the Battle of Hogwarts box yet?

Having some time to actual look at all the pictures, here are my thoughts on the sets:

Expecto Patronum: I actually really like the design. I never really expected it to be trans, and I actually like the solid color choice they went for. Harry's arm printing is a welcome surprise and I'm impressed by how much it improves the figure. I still won't be going out of my way to buy this set (as I usually skip the statues), but I could be tempted during a sale.

Battle of Hogwarts: I like the great hall entrance, but not the rest of the build. I feel like trying to make it transformable into two separate builds led to the overall build being kind of weak. I do think the 'destroyed' configuration on the back of the box looks the best of the configurations. The minifigures look good, but Bellatrix and Molly's faces really bring down the minifigures for me. The lack of trolls and spiders is disappointing, it makes the battle seem very small and unimpressive.

Quidditch Trunk: The design is clever, being able to operate one of the players by pulling the trunk handles is neat. However, the trunk gimmick for a second year in a row really makes me dismissive of this set, it just doesn't do much for me.

Dobby: Looks great, I would never buy it though.

Weasely's Wizard Wheezes: I didn't care for it when it leaked, but it's grown on me. It's different enough that it doesn't really compete with the DA version, but still good enough that I would be tempted to buy it if I didn't have the DA version. Lavender's design is still a pretty big fail. I get not making a new hairpiece, I know there's a budget, but I think there were better options available. I also feel like I would have preferred Hermione instead of Romilda Vane.

Hogwarts Express: This one was the biggest surprise for me. I had zero interest in it, but after seeing better pictures, it's really grown on me. I actually really like the updated train engine, it looks way better to me. Hogsmeade station is really nice too, the overall design hits the nostalgia hard for me, so I think I might pick it up if I see a sale. The minifigure lineup is a bit on the unexciting side, and the passenger cars are too cramped, I feel like a couple studs wider would have been perfect.

I think so far for 2023 the theme is still good, but I think it has lost a little bit of ground. I feel like gimmicks are taking over more and more every year. The banners were okay, but actual builds of those rooms would have been better. The trunk idea was cool once, but I feel like trying to jam an entire Quidditch pitch into one was a mistake.

I also feel like the minifigures are kind of lacking. Molly and Bellatrix using old faces is disappointing. They finally gave Molly skirt printing, but somehow skipped Bellatrix. Lee Jordon's hair choice would have been understandable if not for them introducing a much better option in the Dreamzzz sets. Hermione's hair in the room of requirement was lazy too, they could have used Autumns hair from the Friends sets. I sometimes wonder how they decide which characters they'll go all out for and which ones they'll slap together and say 'good enough'.

Well we finally have our answer for why the hinges in the Hospital Wing seemed to be on "backwards". It's nice to know it was in service of a plan.

We could still see them like we had a Grawp set with Umbridge, or an Acromantula set with Harry and Ron. There's nothing to say they wouldn't tackle it that way and let us mix and match our combatants.

Remember when we were speculating thatExpecto Patronum could be Aberforth on the viaduct? I guess we can make this scene after all!

Where to find that connected Hogwarts photo or video?

Instagram.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but is it looking to anyone else like the wand with attachment is actually a whole new dual-moulded piece, and not an attachment you can stick on any wand?

I say that because even the top of the box image from BoH show Harry and Voldemort with the clear bits on their wands, and in the Expecto Patronum images it looks like Lupin has Harry's black wand when he's shown casting the spell and a different colour when he has a wand without casting a spell.

Maybe they can release a Battle of Hogwarts "battle pack"

Or two. One for each side

I’d definitely love to see packs of Ron/McGonagall/Luna/Kingsley and Lucius/Fenrir/2 generic Death Eaters (or maybe a blend so both packs have heroes and villains - Order v. Death Eaters and DA v. Death Eaters if you will). Maybe battle packs should be the new thing we keep talking about, seeing how this thread has apparently memed Dobby’s sock into existence.

If we get any additional Battle of Hogwarts sets, I wouldn't be overly excited if they went with maskless generic Death Eaters.  They might as well include the Carrows instead at that point.

Looking at this picture now with all these sets, BoH will probably be the last of this layout.

Wow, when this new line started, my younger daughter started on the sets, and while I liked the modular aspects the sets themselves seemed to be less that the previous line. (which my older daughter collected)

Now that I have seen that picture! Its amazing what those sets can look like! I think my youngest is going to end up with bragging rights!

I was thinking the same thing. Which honestly from a technical perspective seems like the only way you could do something like this. I would think it would be impossible to have something attach securely on a tapered part like the wands. It’s a compromise, but I love the spell attachments so much that I am going to accept this.

Not sure if this has been mentioned either, but I like the fact that the clock /gate can be flipped from broken to complete. Looks good.

Yes, there’s definitely a new attachment piece but I’d imagine that it just fits onto a normal wand. But I agree that it’s difficult to tell at this stage.

overall I find the selection of minifigures a little lacklustre, even if the new Voldemort is very good and we do get a sprinkling of new characters. I like the HE and will probably pick that up and even though the www isn’t very exciting, I’ll probably also get that as I expect they’ll bring out new DA shops in the future and it would be good to build the street.

i love the idea of a battle pack for the BH and honestly find it very strange that this wave doesn’t include any “cheaper” sets, so maybe Lego have something up their sleeve?…

I had interest in the Hogwarts Express because I wanted a Lego motorized  train rather than because it is Harry Potter/ HE. But the more I see new pics of it, the less I am interested in it. Maybe if it is easy to add Powered Up, then maybe I  would reconsider. Hopefully there will be other  future train sets.

The combining Hogwarts Castle sets look cool. I need to tell my brother about them.

Do you guys think that this will be all for the current style Hogwarts Castle sets? Whilst the exterior does seem like a complete model there are many interior areas missing including common rooms which have a lot of screen time in the movies.

Also is anyone else thinking that the way the weasleys wizard wheezes set is going to be the first of many individual Diagon Alley shops?  Given that the name ‘Diagon Alley’ was put in front of weasleys wizard wheezes similar to the new Hogwarts style it might make sense.

As LEGO seems to work in cycles of 3 years; 2018-2020 & 2021-2023; we might get a different castle system again next year. Especially since it seems this iteration is complete. As for the common rooms, LEGO has given us those banner sets that are meant to be the common rooms. So I don't know if it's likely we'll see common rooms in regular playsets, but since we are probably getting a new castle system next year it is hypothetically possible that that new system might have common rooms.

As for your DA series comment, I think that's exactly what LEGO wants to do.
