Another gimmick idea: We could do hair to go with the Marvel and Star Wars helmet collections. Build yourself a Harry Potter wig out of LEGO! It's a 3-in-1 set. Well, all three models are just Harry's hair, but the alternate instructions for the B and C models (only available online, of course) cover a different head size each so that the wig will fit most customers.

I'm onto something here, ain't I?

A bunch of 1HY stuff just dropped for Star Wars, so it looks like it’s leaks season! Harry Potter stuff could come tomorrow or weeks from now in my experience, but at least we know the info on the spring sets (from all themes) is somewhere to be found now.

On a more sensible note (referring to my gimmick idea, not Accio Lego, just in case this wasn't clear), apparently Promobricks are currently teasing leaks for Technic, Dreamzzz, and Ninjago. Not HP as of yet, so I doubt we'd get something as early as tomorrow.

Brick Clicker in a recent video mentioned both the buildable Sorting Hat and UCS Burrow from the survey as 2024 sets, but I'm not sure if he has any actual information on whether these sets are going to be released at all (let alone when). Personally, when I read about the survey leak, I thought a buildable Sorting Hat was a terrible idea. If nothing else, it's an unattractive colour for a display model and probably hard to get even somewhat organic-looking. But given the awful-looking buildable Chewbacca over at Star Wars, clearly neither of these concerns would discourage LEGO, so yeah.

Before the pictures from the survey leaked I thought “they can’t make a buildable sorting hat, I will look like a mutant poo emoji”. After the survey pictures leaked… I still think that.

The one bright spot is that the way the survey was set up it means they were gauging how much people would pay for various sets, so if nobody would pay more than it costs to produce the thing then lego won’t try to sell it to us.

Yeah, that's why I was confused when Brick Clicker mentioned both these sets as if they were for sure happening in 2024. Of all the leaks, the Sorting Hat was the one where my mind immediately went "Who'd pay for THAT?" I'm not even interested in half the themes covered by the survey (like buildable Disney figures and Zelda), but this was the only one which I could not see appealing to anyone.

That said, I thought (and still think) the same about, say, the pricing of the coming The Marvels set, that ridiculous (and frankly insulting to actual artists) Modern Art set, the new Friends Dog Rescue Center with the eye-hurting colour scheme, and the buildable Chewbacca. And those are all actual sets, so clearly LEGO and I are not on the same page as to what appeals.

Ok I got an idea, how about they follow on from the small Dobby building figure and do a small wave of smallish beast builds with figures (same price as the banners), similar to those magical beasts Noble collection statues on the market. ‘Magical Beasts’ wave 1:

Life size Pixie (with gold robes Lockheart from the lesson, plus Neville with new face expressions and pixie figure). Build includes a display base with a transparent stand to make it look like it’s flying.

Mandrake in a pot (with a new Sprout: black dress from CS scenes inside the castle or her DH appearance and Hermione using the Hidden side hair with earmuffs recoloured wearing tan overalls). The mandrake face is printed on a half cylinder like Grawp/MODOK. Looks like a fat potted baby groot with leaves.

Grindylow (tentacles are the existing olive green parts used for the Dr Strange set etc). Figures are Fleur and Cedric in lake task outfits posed on a stand to look like they are swimming plus grindylow figure.

Norbert the dragon: no paper wings here instead it’s all bricks and plates like a creator set. Might use a recolour of the dragon head from Gringotts. Figures are Hagrid (new print with an apron and mittens are printed D tiles) and Ron (cardigan) new Minifigure scale Norbert mould included. Base stand features broken egg fragments.

Wave 2: Nifler & young Newt and Dumbledore from the flashbacks, Aragog in a trunk with student Hagrid & Tom Riddle (black & white figures), Bowtruckle?

I love this idea!! It’s also something thst could continue for quite a while, given how many beasts there are.

If they wanted to include minifigs with those, why wouldn't they have included Lucius and Harry with Dobby? Also I'm not putting a mandrake the size of Dobby on my shelf. But sure, anything goes with LEGO these days.

Did anyone else think what I thought when they saw that new dog with his ears down in the Marvel CMF? Of course I'd prefer a new mold with his saggy jowels, but it seems Lego doesn't want to do that for Harry Potter non-magical pets as seen with Crookshanks, so I think with printing it could be a nice Fang, finally!  His stance and size even remind me of him from the video games.

That's a fantastic idea.

It would be the first LEGO Harry Potter gimmick that I could see myself buying. There are so many beasts that they could do many waves of that. Include an exclusive minifigure in each set, and it would sell extremely well imo.

The dog in the Marvel CMF isn’t a new mold. It’s the golden retriever piece that was introduced a couple of years ago in a new color (and with a unique print obviously). I imagine if Lego was going to conflate a retriever with a mastiff they would have done it by now, so we’ll just have to hold out hope that the designers are holding off in order to do Fang justice when they finally get to him.

^^ A lamp? There's transparant yellow round 1x1 between the 2 golden pieces.

But wizards don't use electricity, right?

Lamps aren’t exclusively electric, they could be gas lamps or oil lamps or simply housing some magical light source. Having some sort of shade on your light source would still be practical no matter what it is - there’s a reason us muggles don’t have many light fixtures that are just exposed bulbs after all.

Fair enough. I guess I just hoped that the golden item on the table was something more interesting.

Since more and more 2024 set lists are getting out, what do you have on your HP bingo cards?

I’m playing it safe and say 4 gimmick sets based on the Hogwarts houses, 1 new type of gimmick à la trunk, and a final small expansion to the current Hogwarts style :classic:

Since some themes are already getting set numbers and prices for 2024 (not HP though), I'm putting down some speculation. Without knowing any set numbers or prices, here's what I think we might get in 2024:

Durmstrang ship

Hogsmeade expansion with the Hog's Head and possibly Zonko's (though I'm more confident about the HH)

Knight Bus (last one came out in 2019, so we'll probably see a remake within the next 1-3 years)

UCS Burrow from the survey (unless the Knight Bus is a UCS version, then the Burrow might be for 2025)

Diagon Alley expansion in the style of the new WWW

A successor to the Hogwarts modular system, so people have to start collecting anew

Buildable objects galore (the Sorting Hat from the survey sounds like an awful idea to me, but so do all of the buildable objects that have already been made, so what do I know?)

Quoting myself from like a dozen pages ago because @BrickBob Studpants asked. ;-) Though most of them probably would be more likely for a second wave than a first.

In addition, I've made a couple off-the-wall suggestions for gimmicky sets in the last couple of posts (HP forearm collection, Harry's hair), but the only one I could possibly see them using is a Diagon Alley trunk to keep the trunk collection alive ("Cobble together your own stores, shopkeepers, and customers!").

Also, did they actually use the Dumbledore hair for Aberforth? If so, I'm disappointed. He needed wilder, more flowing hair in my opinion. He looks entirely too polished this way.

Yeah, those ideas are definitely 2HY material :snicker:

Maybe the Thorin hairpiece would’ve worked? It hasn’t been used since 2016 though and it doesn’t exist in light bluish grey. A recolour might have broken the budget for an AC, so the Dumbledore hairpiece was the easiest option :shrug_oh_well:

This is the best LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar they've released so far imo.

Simply fantastic. The builds are all great, and the minifigures are awesome.

I think it’s a close call between this and the 2020 Yule Ball one, but yes, the designers have finally listened and gotten back on track with what we want in an advent calendar. Exclusive outfits that wouldn’t fit in a regular set, introducing new characters, multiple exclusive prints, minifigure scale builds that can recreate a small scene or enhance a preexisting set, and properly winter themed to boot.

Also, there’s definitely some Zonko’s inspired stuff here. Could we possibly be so lucky to get a Zonko’s + Hog’s Head Hogsmeade expansion next summer? Or perhaps Wizarding shops are going to be the new ‘gimmick’ sets.

I can’t see Lego wanting to continue this Hogwarts style after 2023 to be honest.  Personally I’m hoping for a style that has a sole focus on interior for a change.

Falconfan has posted a list of Harry Potter set numbers with piece counts and prices from brickmerge on Instagram:

76424: $14.99 (165 pcs)

76425: $19.99 (337 pcs)

76426: $37.99 (350 pcs)

76428: $74.99 (896 pcs)

76429: 18+ $99.99 (561 pcs)

76430: $44.99 (364 pcs)

76432: $29.99 (172 pcs)

It’s not clear whether these are our typical winter wave or not. Set numbers that are definitely as late as may have leaked and some of the City set names I’ve seen leaking look more like their typical summer style subthemes. Either we get two full sized waves this year or Lego has decided to give up on the smaller winter waves and this is mostly it.

76427 and 76431 are notably missing, possibly one is the advent calendar and the other a large D2C - both would be 2HY.

Also notable is the remarkably low piece count on that $100 18+ set - dare we hope for a Drumstrang Ship with molded hull pieces and fabric sails?
