The only reason to release an 18+ Durmstrang ship would be to have a large-scale model, which this isn’t. Maybe it’s the sorting hat from the survey leak? Also, this seems too large for a March wave. This has to include some 2HY stuff too. Glad to see so many smaller sets!
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Well, scratch that, according to brickmerge, these are all scheduled for March. Looks like my prediction was wrong, as there doesn’t seem to be a uniform gimmick, given these varying prices. …unless they’re gimmicks at different price points of course Mechs and construction figures anyone?

THELEGOBATMAN Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Huh, interesting. The March wave seems to get bigger and bigger. This feels like a June wave. No gimmicks of the first time is an intriguing choice. There's a lot of cheap sets fortunately. Wonder if the 18+ set is a buildable object, or perhaps a diorama?

Maybe it’s the sorting hat from the survey leak? That kind of price per piece ratio tends to go with large molded pieces and extra prints though. A buildable object is kinda the exact opposite of that - they tend to go over the average ppp ratio, not significantly under. I think the key here is that any 18+ set is going to be a decently sized display piece, so what we need to ask ourselves is what display pieces would feature lots of large molded (and likely printed) pieces. That’s why first thought was the Drumstrang ship, the 2005 version featured some very large molded parts. That said, I do recognize that a cool sailing ship is not the sort of thing that would have lego slap an 18+ label on it. Perhaps we’re finally getting a proper diorama set with a quote? If they did something like the Troll in the bathroom or the Fluffy encounter with new molded parts for the creatures I could see that causing the numbers we’re looking at. It occurs to me that another option is a battle of the 7 Potters diorama. I personally always thought it doubtful they’d ever do a full version of the scene since it would be a pretty hefty price tag for relatively few pieces, but that’s exactly what we’re seeing here.

Believe it or not, I did consider writing "HP mechs" on my list of what to expect. Ultimately, however, I could not see how they would make that work with this theme. Not that the Marvel and Star Wars ones work all that well to begin with, thematically, but still - I can see more kids wanting to swoosh around their Marvel and Star Wars action figures than to want to play "Harry vs. Voldemort: Battle of the Mechs". That said, if there WERE mechs, I'd expect them to be priced at $ 15.99 like in the other themes. So I don't see any here. Unless of course we're talking about a two-pack or something. 7 hours ago, Accio Lego said: 76424: $14.99 (165 pcs) 76425: $19.99 (337 pcs) Wow. After I've been ranting about the lack of allowance-friendly sets in a supposed kids' theme for all of last year, can it be that LEGO is finally listening? I'm especially curious about 76425 given the price-to-pieces ratio. I do hope, though, that these are "proper" playsets with minifigures - not buildable objects/figs nor the last death throes of HP DOTS. Edited August 2, 2023 by brickbride
Legoman123 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I could see a Hagrid’s Hut with both buildings that can be fully enclosed and also the tent from DH part 1. As for the 18+ sets aren’t they usually dioramas? If it is a diorama I’d bet on the graveyard duel from GOF as I feel the graveyard set can only be done real justice in the form of a diorama set. If not maybe it’s one of the houses such as Lunas or Malfoy Manor?
Clone OPatra Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 These piece counts are all over the place, but like others I'm super happy to see some lower prices in the theme again. Perhaps the one with the super low piece count could come with some sort of large moulded creature? There are a few candidates, like a "Troll! In the dungeon!"

Darth Shadowthrone Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Apart from the Durmstrang ship is there anything people are still waiting for in terms of sets? For me a Philosopher's Stone Forbidden Forest set would be cool, or a new small Mirror of Erised set. The only thing that'd be really great would be some kind of Order of the Phoenix Death Eater battlepack

The only thing that'd be really great would be some kind of Order of the Phoenix Death Eater battlepack This is my speculation/wish list: 76424: $14.99 (165 pcs) either Hagrid’s motorcycle and side car for DH or the Duelling club long table with a new Lockheart, featuring the new wands and magic blast elements in yellow. 76425: $19.99 (337 pcs) Battle of the department of mystery’s, high part count is due to shelves of prophecies. New print for Lucius, Masked Death Eater, Ginny, Harry. 76426: $37.99 (350 pcs) Detention in the dark forest: Hagrid with new coat print, Voldemort, Firenze using the new wig with pointy ears from Marvel CMF series 2, Fang, Draco, Harry. Unicorn? 76428: $74.99 (896 pcs) Hogwarts module: Defence against the Dark Arts tower, about the size of Dumbledore’s office. PoA based with the wardrobe, dragon skeleton, spider with roller skates etc. includes a hidden pixie and grindylow in a tank in the office 76429: 18+ $99.99 (561 pcs) Durmstrang Ship!! 76430: $44.99 (364 pcs) PS based Hagrid’s hut, Hagrid with apron, Fang, Norbert, trio with new cardigan prints. 76432: $29.99 (172 pcs) ??? What kind of set has this part/price ratio? Edited August 2, 2023 by Bugbot20082

Two issues though: I highly doubt they’d include a unicorn in a set, considering the only one we see is dead. Kind of macabre to make a toy based on that scene The 18+ set is certainly not gonna be a normal playset It’s either a diorama or a buildable object. If they branded a $100 Durmstrang Ship set as 18+, they might as well have done that for The Burrow, Grimmauld Place, or any of the larger castle expansions. I too would like to see a good $80-120 range Lovegood House. The other things I'd like are missing or not redone minifigures, which could fit into some also missing locations. For example, a Malfoy Manor battle (probably not including the exterior) that has a great Narcissa and a Mr Malfoy with a proper new head. A Shell Cottage with Bill. I think a Weasley Wedding set would also be quite nice, and we'd get a whole new range of outfits for characters. This line does seem to like doing various different dressed-up outfits. Not that I care myself, but a new Borgin and Burke's could be a good set. While I'm happy with the one we got, a somewhat larger 4 Privet Drive from PoA with Marge could be good. As an important location, a somewhat larger redo of that one is warranted.
Legoman123 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I think a D2C 12 Grimmauld Place would work perfectly as the interior to the previous one was very lacklustre.

I doubt they would have released the picture if they had been planning on such a large addition afterwards. 76432: To answer your question, have a look at the Marvel theme: 76232 The Hoopty, 3 figs, 420 pieces, 95 EUR (2023); 76281 rumoured X-Men Jet, 359 pieces, 80 USD (2024, not confirmed so far). krimimimi Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) We've moved on to the new set info so quickly, we've barely taken a moment to celebrate the Advent Calendar. Can we just take a moment to acknowledge (the known) only one repeat minifig (and the others aren't just re-using the same body either), one new fig altogether, a return to minifig scale builds, and (the new) not a single nanobuild in sight! Dead chuffed. What a cute set. And it has me hoping we might see a Zonko's and Hog's Head set next summer in a return to Hogsmeade. (Other hope: they've included the new Galleons and Chocolate Frog 1x1 round tiles, even though they aren't in the art.) Question: is the $15 set with 165 pieces in line with some of the SW three fig Accessory Packs? I can't picture them stretching to four figs at that piece count, certainly not after recent price adjustments , but three and a build should be possible, shouldn't it? 4 hours ago, Darth Shadowthrone said: Apart from the Durmstrang ship is there anything people are still waiting for in terms of sets? Thanks, was going to say this. Could be located behind the viaduct entrance building/where the hospital wing is on the new ‘official layout’. The exterior could also be a full blown Astronomy tower but the interior and figures are all DaDA. ‘Tower’ is better than ‘classroom’ in this instance because in my idea it’s 3 rooms stacked: classroom & wardrobe, Lupin’s office, candle room with bogart box etc for example. The theme overlaps with the patronus build set a lot but then they could add in a new ghost or professor Vector to make it a must have for everyone Speaking about inflation, I have to say that the builds in this years AC are very thin on parts, most of them only 7-9 parts each. Great new prints although I would have swapped the wanted poster for a Hog’s Head signpost. I’m very pleased with the subject matter and the absence of micro builds is a big plus, this format is what HP calendars should be 👍 Edited August 3, 2023 by Bugbot20082

I can't picture them stretching to four figs at that piece count, certainly not after recent price adjustments , but three and a build should be possible, shouldn't it? The closest HP had to a battle pack was 40419 Hogwarts Students Accessory Set (there were others of that kind as well). This one's from 2021 with a list price of EUR 15 and far fewer pieces (53 according to Brickset), so, sure, only three instead of four figures and some more pieces for roughly the same price seems doable. Those sets had 40xxx set numbers, though. Which is why I don't think 76424 is one of them. Other than that, the 76400 Thestral Carriage had 121 pieces, 2 figs, and two thestrals (with the baby being a new mold I think) for EUR 20 list price. Which is why I said I expect 76425 to have about 1-2 figures and maybe an animal or two (probably not as large as the thestrals, and possibly no new molds either), keeping LEGOflation in mind. The Forbidden Forest detention might actually be a good fit if you downsize it - say: Hagrid, Harry, Fang, and half a tree or so. Though that doesn't add up given the piece count, so I'm leaning towards maybe only 1 fig and 1 animal or 2 figs and no animal. A remake of 4750 (Draco's Encounter with Buckbeak)? Or 4751 (Harry and the Marauders' Map), since that one lends itself to sizing it however you wish (amount of corridor and statues ...)? The Chamber of Winged Keys might also be a possibility. Or maybe a remake of Aragog's Lair: Harry, Ron, a bunch of spiders (those are cheap), and the giant buildable spider might explain the piece count (though the previous iterations weren't as elaborate). For 76424 I'd expect something REALLY small. The Final Challenge seems doable if barely (Harry, Quirrell, the Mirror, and not much else). Or the Sorting Hat (based off the original 4701 set, though I wouldn't expect them to do that if they're doing a buildable Sorting Hat as well). Of course, I wouldn't rule out something entirely useless like , say, a buildable, customizable (DOTS style) wand with no minifigs, either. Edited August 2, 2023 by brickbride
