Posted July 6, 200816 yr hi! TLC asked us for ideas for city 2010, so city 2009 should be ready right? so my question is: what do you expect from City 2009?
July 6, 200816 yr The main thing i expect is that they go on with the great quality models as like the new police HQ. The constructive quality has really stepped up the last few years it's a lot of fun to build all these new sets. Otherwise i don't really know what to expect. But i do hope they will bring back some more civilian sets, ans a bit less police/fire and so on stuff. Not that it's not good the sets are great but i personally think there are too less civil themed sets nowadays.
July 6, 200816 yr I think that creating more civilian sets that have no direct relationship with Fire, Police, Hospital and Construction (except for a building under construction, that would be really cool ). Some flora packs like the one released in 1994 would be nice, re-sold the 16 per 16 blue baseplate (my stock is ending ). Maybe creating packs such has Traffic Lights, Sidewalks, RoadSignes... Never seen ideas such has a playground or park to attract the female public, a school, a resort with a pool and a beach in front... Or make another marina equal to the 1994 Marina but updated with jetskis, glass-bottomed boats for aquatic wildlife sightseing, wind surf, ferrys... But has a great Lego Town/City fan, having ALL sets of the theme from 1997-2008. Even thougt that City didn't existed from 2001-2003.
July 7, 200816 yr I do wish TLC would release sets associated with the City theme which we haven't seen yet/produced or a re-make of sets that were made only once or twice during the past 10 years. Lots of people are asking for a bank, for example. What about a bus stop instead of another train station? A garage, maybe?

Lots of people are asking for a bank, for example. What about a bus stop instead of another train station? A garage, maybe? I think a bus stop and a mechanics garage could have alot of potential. espeacially the Garage! Have two bays with role up doors with a lift inside! Though that might present a problem with having a lift and role up doors. So many be just a lift then. I would really like to see a C-130 cargo type plane for the Coast Guard line. I think that would work out great! Preferably a brick built one. Not that the current big one peice hulls and wings are bad, but a brick built plane like the one in the indie set Perl in Peru set would be a nice change.
July 7, 200816 yr I think the idea with the garage and the C-130 would be great! As a child i always loved to play with mechanics themed sets, as for example this one: But since there were so less sets out there, i built my own big garage then, with this set as start/inspiration. In the army i had to do a lot with C-130's, and this definitely could be a win if they make it right!
July 7, 200816 yr Like others, I hope that it is not all police/fire/emergency/construction again. Sure, these are the backbones of Lego targeting at the kids who want to grow up to be cops, firemen, doctors or builders... Lego should embrace these core values, but should also embrace the concept of building a flowing town or city theme. By now the city has the best police and fire departments that money can buy. The city now needs more services. More shops and garages, restaurants... all the things that cities need. And trees and flowers and assorted people packs. And more high quality sets from the past updated to the quality of everything that came out this year. Let's start making a livable city!
July 7, 200816 yr emailed already my suggestion. a commuter theme! a bus, taxi cab, a street car, or a horse carriage would be nice!
July 7, 200816 yr What do I THINK we'll see, or what do I WANT to see? I'm guessing we'll get a new hospital. The last one was a couple of years ago, and was kinda lackluster compared to the recent fire station and police station. As for what I want to see, I'm hoping they expand upon the cargo and mail sets that came out this year -- a post office or a cargo center would be great. I'd also love to see a zoo. I can't figure out why they make Duplo zoos year after year, but we never get a System-scale zoo.
July 7, 200816 yr What do I THINK we'll see, or what do I WANT to see? I think that this topic was there to say what we think we'll see next year - but please correct me if I'm not right. I totally agree with all of you that there has to be more civilian stuff because firstly only always police and fire gets very boring and secondly our Citys should grow, shouldn't they ?! But judging from which City sets TLG released in the last two (and mainly this) year they are on the right way! I think that it's obvious that we'll get next year: -hospital (hopefully as big as the new police HQ of this year) -some emergency vehicles (docotr's car, ambulance car) (Please no more rescue helicopter!) -post station -passenger train -cargo train A new airport might be possible, too, since the last one was released three years ago (like trains and hospital). Perhaps some more construction sets - but I really can't think of new ones. As for what I want to see, I'm hoping they expand upon the cargo and mail sets that came out this year -- a post office or a cargo center would be great. Yes, a new cargo center would be totally awesome - especially if it would come with rolling gates and an office like in the original set ! Klaus-Dieter Edited July 7, 200816 yr by Klaus-Dieter
July 8, 200816 yr Here are what I believe are possible contenders for '09- -Bank -School -Farm -Zoo -And other random stores (I dont think they could support a theme themselves)
July 9, 200816 yr Here are what I believe are possible contenders for '09--Bank -School -Farm -Zoo -And other random stores (I dont think they could support a theme themselves) Yes, darthperson8, a farm, a zoo and a school would be amazing, too! And a bank is an absolute must-have anyway!!! For April 2009: Cargo Center, Post Office and a Bank - how would that be!!! And then for 2010: Farm sets !!! Let's hope! July 9, 200816 yr I expect a new hospital and an ambulance, hopefully a bit bigger and more unique (attention, tlc!) than the last one, which was the same as the prison transport/ two-face' van/ jokers Iscream-van/ arkham van etc etc etc. something like this perhaps (credits to Yanagisan): What I would like to see is something completely different. What is NO police, No rescue, No ambulance, No firestation, No construction but something civilian.. but therefore we got the cafe corner series I guess..
July 9, 200816 yr I think it is likely that we may see more nautical based sets. Harbor, fire, police, and now coast guard, it appears that TLG has found that waterborne sets sell. I'd love to see a sailboat or even a cabin cruiser, but who knows. As for the folks who mentioned a C130, I don't think we will see one of those since this year we just got the DC-3 in "Peril in Peru" and this beauty, an alternate build from the Creator Ferry set.
July 21, 200816 yr I think a hungar or even a huge storage facility would be great...even with shelfs and these red carts from 2008 City Advent. Edited July 21, 200816 yr by BatonMedved

Besides the suggestions given I would also love to see the return of some more recreational water sets like http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6543-1 or a rework of the Paradiso beach sets e.g. http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6543-1
July 21, 200816 yr I guess hospital and post office would have high chance. Personally I wish more "street" things like bank, convenient stores (not as big as 10185)/ supermarket / flower shop, restuarants, bus stop and bus/ taxi stop and taxi. Some small hot-dog/ ice-cream/ snack stalls/ trolleys would be good as well!
July 21, 200816 yr Anyone could imagine how great a super mall set could be . It probably will contain a food court, some generic shops and the best of all a mini lego store . Edited July 21, 200816 yr by darkrebellion
July 22, 200816 yr I would love : Bakery- More food pieces Small Convenience Store Post office News Agency Modular Shop Hmm im going to re-install my LDD since it doesnt work i will try and make some Modular Building or a Convenience store
July 22, 200816 yr Me too, big mall is right i need for my suburbs. By the way, somewhere on forums i`ve seen somebody mentioned a Coast Guard Hover Craft... i think that this idea is more suitable for orange savers than red fighters... All in all, what do you think about it? Edited July 22, 200816 yr by BatonMedved
July 22, 200816 yr I don't think TLG is going to launch a line of large sets like shopping centre, bank etc - I just don't see it happening, unfortunately. However to test the waters they could modify the Impulse line a bit and make it more interesting. Rather than a fire fighter, police officer, construction worker or repeats of stuff already available in the main lines, we could have an ice cream vendor, market seller with cart, hotdog stand etc. That way they could trial more civilian-themed sets at a small scale without overcommitting to large sets they're not sure would sell.

Ice-Cream vendor! Well true i doubt they would do HUGE stuff like malls but i think they will be doing some bigger civilian buildings soon like bank IMO anyway. If they made a Ice-Cream vendor i would buy 6 just for the ice cream pieces Ice-Cream ON

If they made a Ice-Cream vendor i would buy 6 just for the ice cream pieces Ice-Cream ON I was thinking of something like this - nicely Impulse sized. I hope you're right about civilian buildings. The only banks we've seen in recent years are in licensed sets (Spiderman, Gringotts). Duplo still has the best themes - farms, malls, zoos, circuses!
July 22, 200816 yr A bank? Never going to happen. A farm? Get real. A Zoo? Hahahaha........ next joke..... As for the impulse line, won't happen. These already have their niche in the market....the advent calendars. If they sell you an icecream man, then what's the icecream lady going to do for 2008's advent calendar? Just as mini creator sets are designed to get you to buy BIG creator sets, Impulse Sets are designed to get you to buy the REAL BIG sets, not a theme on their own. Can we all talk about what we would expect to see?? Since they are done with 2009 anyways?

I don't know about Impulse sets inspiring people to buy big ones. They don't seem to have sold well here anyway, but I mainly see parents buying them as cheapgifts to keep their kids quiet. I don't see one recycle truck and a small street sweeper a couple of years ago as representing a massive theme either but there's still an Impulse for street cleaner and garbage guy as well. As for 09... trains we already know and a new hospital theme would be my most likely guess as it will have been three years since the last one, which is a whole new generation of kids who'll be interested.
