I assume the prices on 43230 and 43224 were switched as 43230 is the $99 set.

...

Perhaps not. According to Promobricks, there was a price reduction:

Wouldn't it have to be done at around the same price point? Perhaps this will be a project for after the 100th celebrations year.

Honestly I don't know at the point. There's so much material they could cover and then you find one of the sets is not even film related as such so goodness knows. Top of my list would be a Heroes Icons to match the Villians, a tower with Rapunzel, Eugene and Mother Gothel, and something Brave related so we get a Merida minifigure.

An archery range polybag would be a great way to get Merida and not “waste” a set

Wasnt there a confirmation of the Night Before Xmas Ideas set? How long do those take to go into production?

Believe there are 4-5 ahead of it. Would guess we’ll only be seeing it in the first half of 2024. Would make sense to come out some time before Halloween of ‘24 but who knows

A year? I scrolled through the previous Lego Ideas blogpost and it seems the Tales of the Space Age, for example was in the roster of submissions May 2022, then announced around August, then released this month.

I guess the real question is the amount of time Lego gives each designer, and their design team to perfect the engineering of the design. I imagine that they may want to release an item sooner or later, depending on the theme.

Sure, but when was the last time we got an exclusive minifig in a polybag? Those days seem to be pretty much over :sadnew:

Instead, I expect Merida to either show up in the Disney Castle or one of the other unknown sets. Of course there‘s also the possibility that she doesn‘t appear in minifig form in any sets at all this year, but that seems unlikely considering that she‘d be the only humanoid character with a 100th anniversary BrickHead not to get the minifig treatment.

It certainly would, but I think we know of all the polys for this year.

Probably as I can't see it being any cheaper. I'm not expecting it to happen at all to be honest. As much as I appear to not be the only one who thinks the Villians Icons would work well as a bookend along with a Heroes Icons, Lego never does the expected.

Just seen the little Zavvi promo clip for the Villians Icons set and it features Marcos Bessa as the designer. Now my excitement transferring from the Harry Potter theme to the Disney line this year makes perfect sense. I got back into Lego with Bessa's Ewok Village and clearly his design style is still speaking to me.

So a few thoughts.

i have the complete Disney Series 3 in front of me as I finally got a full set from the Lego store today. A lot of my first impressions remain but some things you really start to notice when you see the figures in front of you.

i hate Aurora's face. I didn't think it'd be that big of an issue at first but wow I want to swap her head so bad. The sleeping face annoys me because that smirk completely takes me out of the sleeping illusion. It looks like she's closing her eyes giggling waiting for someone to reveal her birthday gift, or like a kid closing their eyes so their parents think they're asleep, but while giggling because the parent knows what's up. She doesn't look like she's sleeping at all. I feel like unless you're having the best dream ever you wouldn't smirk like that? Maybe I'm too cynical but I also thought her smile was huge it looked like she had buck teeth I wish she had a closed smile on one side and a regular sleeping face on the other. Not this huge cheesy smile and a sleeping smirk they gave her.

I also actually do wish Baymax was bigger. The arms are not enough, he needs some actual floof to make him soft and bouncy. Since this is hard plastic and they cannot get the softness effect, they could at least mold a round poofy belly so he has the right silhouette. Instead of just new arm molds i think the entire torso should have been new. He's too flat for this character. I'd like for him to get reimagined.

Also I know i've complained about Mickey before but yeah this figure solidified how I felt. Mickey needs mid sized legs and a smaller head mold. His head is huge and his legs so tall this does not look like the mouse himself, rather it looks like a tall person in a Mickey costume. I wish they'd scale him down a bit.

Lastly while I love this series i can't help but feel like the figures from Series 1 clash with the newer designs? Like some characters such as Robin Hood and Stich look like they were pulled out of the movie they were originally released in. Very literal. Except, the Genie from Series 1 does not have that one to one likeliness and lacks the specialized head mold that the other 2 have, opting rather for a head piece which was later used for Marvel. Then Ariel has no black outlining on her mouth the way Aurora does. Actually, Jasmin and Ariel have no teeth printed or outlining for their mouths. Now Aurora and Mulan both have it and Ariels smile ends up looking awkward and unfinished next to them. I get that things change and design styles improve with time but yeah next to the Series 1 figures a lot of these figures stand out or look awkward.

And finally I love the new Cinderella figure from the waist up! I know it sounds like I'm nit picking, and maybe i am, but I was expecting a different dress piece. Cinderella's dress has always been puffier and bouncier than Aurora's or Tiana's, so when we saw a link for the new Cinderella figure online, I was let down to see she was sporting the same dress piece the other. 2 princess's I named had. it's a great piece, but I was almost expecting the Queen of Hearts dress to be used for the bounce it has but alas the figure still looks amazing. Really excited to see the new Castle.

thought you guys might be interested in seeing my celebration train add ons!

hopeing the minifigs in the new castle are not too expensive, have no need to drop 400 on the set as i already have the old one but need to get my hands on at least the new exclusive characters, then maybe the new outfits of characters price-depending

I am hoping to just BL the King Triton minifig from the clamshell but that alone is already over $30!

I too, prefer not to buy the rehashed set, but might end up doing so just to get the minifigs. But we'll see... several of them might end up being 'repeats' of the CMF!

There is something much more vibrant and contrasting about the 100 series, perhaps the character selection and design. Series 1 and 2 look opaque next to the new series, and I’m thinking the inclusion of animal characters and several of their friends (like the mice, ducks and chipmunks) adds to that opaqueness and monotony.

Regarding the black lines around their mouths, I actually prefer the older designs without it because they were more accurate. And I agree on Aurora’s face not being great as a whole, she’s probably got the most delicate features out of all the princesses yet she looks very goofy in both expressions. Whoever designed Alice and Ariel would’ve nailed it IMO.

I am kind of the opposite, I think some of the original CMF faces are TOO simple, particulaely Ariel and Alice. I prefer the detail of Series 2 and 3.

To me, Alice looks more like a random person dressing as her as opposed to Alice herself, who has pretty defined expressions.

So just seen Tiago's review of the icons set - like him I thought that the Sleeping Beauty/Aladdin were books! Love the little secrets hidden and the majority of the minifigures (Evil queen needs a new mould for her hair/cape), but don't think I will get unless on sale!

Wait, so Maleficient and Aladdin's books are actually VHSs? Then why is Beauty and the Beast the only book in the collection?

I thought they were books too when I first saw the leaked images but it became apparent to me they were VHS tapes from other people's comments. It is a little strange that the depictions of Jafar and Maleficent on the VHS tapes pop out a little and aren't flat surfaces.

I don't normally care for buildable figure sets but I really do like this one and will be gladly picking it up on release date. I've been disappointed with most of the Disney sets that have been confirmed or released so far which makes this easily my favorite.

The inclusion of Wendy and her brothers on the pocket watch does make me hope that we'll get minifigures for them soon. Same with Prince Eric on the VHS tape and Ariel in her pink dinner gown and blue dress (even if her torso shouldn't be black but navy blue). The fact that we got a revamped Maleficent and a Genie Jafar without the headpiece makes me wonder if we should expect a new Genie figure in a future set but without the headpiece. Maybe Genie with legs will be included in the Agrabah microscale set.

It's funny, Aurora is starting to grow on me just because her hair mould is so amazing I almost start to forgive her buck teethed expression. No hate to people with buck teeth but it really looks like she's cheesing. It's silly but wow her hair mould is so great it almost makes up for it. I'm gonna be outright and say I'd like Genie and Captain Hook to get specialized head moulds. I'd also love to see Ariel in her pink dress and Mulan in her classic green dress in the future.

Also unpopular opinion but that live action based Ariels Castle looks amazing?  The orange mermaid in particular is incredible. That said while I think it looks great I won't be buying it lol. But yeah it's a cute set.

Also random thought but while I love these princess figures the mini dolls still feel so necessary? Idk if it's the completionist in me wanting both doll and figure variants of the characters, or the purist in me who knows princess's are traditionally released as dolls not action figures so the lego-fiction of this concept feels obvious.  You know, the new $150 doll set with Alice, Wendy and Pocahontas is neat in theory, but did anyone else notice how they kind of cartoonified. lot of the face prints in that set? Maybe it's just me but the eyes on a lot of those dolls looks bigger than usual? But the Pocahontas doll is still really gorgeous truly hope she's released in a cheaper set down the line. Even cooler if they pair her with another princess we need more of like Merida.

you have bad taste in sets if you think the villains set is bad

i have and built the royal clamshell and i heres something even more controversial i think the new ariel minifigure is better than the disney series 1

i like the mold of the new flounder for some reason the face has a animated look to it

the section for ursulas lair has more room than you think up close and in hand

its unfortunate how unlikely it will be for disney to do judge claude frollo minifigure as he is one my favourite disney villains

that guy was so delusional and evil

At the risk of sounding rude, not that it stopped you, but you clearly didn't read my post if that's the take you got from it since I said the exact opposite. Do not be so quick to vilify especially next time.

It reminds me of the Barbie mermaid sets my cousins had growing up. The different colored mermaids with matching hair is so much fun but to save money and due to a general preference for just collecting classic sets and not anything based on the live action stuff I’ll pass. But yeah the figs and build were underrated it was jaded by people’s desire to save money and the general disdain for the live action reboots lol.

Disney castle gwp leaked in the usual place - what are your thoughts?

Boring, bland and not something I have any interest in owning or displaying personally.

I like it! And we finally know where that Mickey that leaked a while ago comes from  Good thing he’s not included in the castle! Would’ve been a bit of wasted spot.

i think this promo gives hope to two more pairs of princess/princes being in the castle

im a fan of this tho

hope its not only a 400 dollar threshold, something more like 200 world be better, can use the villains and sidekick sets to get it then another 20 dokllar set

I’m a bit confused, wasn’t this GWP supposed to be Agrabah?
