Aramar Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 I just saw on IG that the January mini castle is from the little mermaid. I wonder if it's from the animated or live action movie and if the minifigure will be Ariel or Triton.

Hoping it’s animated based, with Triton since it’s technically his “castle” unless they go with Prince Eric’s with the agrabah set almost guaranteed to be the animated version it’d be a bit odd to make this one live action based but who knows with LEGO/Disney
OttoRiver Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Looks like the new info is that 40708 will be a micro Atlantica instead. Pumped if true because it would be nice to see some animated Little Mermaid representation in set form. Debatable if it would come with a King Triton minifigure or a Mer-Sister minifigure.

I highly doubt it will be a live action castle as we never actually see a "castle" monument in the live-action film. It would make more sense to use the animated castle, as it is an iconic and a well establish design, rather than the scattered "caves" and pillars in the 2023 film.
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 43248 is a Pixar set Hopefully a movie that hasn‘t been represented yet, like Ratatouille!

I have a problem with Ratatouille: I can't decide if I want Linguini as a minifigure and Remy as a microdoll, or if I want Remy and his brother as minifigures in a set with oversized items.

I'm gonna throw my two cents towards a Monsters Inc. or Brave set. Would love to see Mike, Sully and Boo with a small door diorama or a vignette for Merida
Classic_Spaceman Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 (edited) Per brickmerge: 43236: 6+, 329 pieces, $44.99 43237: 9+, 641 pieces, $44.99 Both release in March, and are rumoured to be Disney Princess sets (from Discord). Odd that they have the same price, but vastly different part-counts. More: 43223: 6+, 154 pieces, $20.99. 43224: 7+, 613 pieces, $94.99 Both of these are releasing in October ‘23. Edit: Discord is saying that 43224 will actually be $99.99 or higher, and that it is a castle; also 43223 is actually $19.99. Edited August 18, 2023 by Classic_Spaceman
JohnTPT17 Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 I just got done watching the Disney Princess Castle special on Disney+. It's pretty much exactly what I expected - a typical "friendship overcomes all" type of romp, though it's still enjoyable to just watch the characters interact. Ariel, Moana, Tiana, and Gaston were all especially good, though Jim Cumming's Triton was a bit too Pete-like and Rapunzel/Mandy Moore sounded a bit too... Old? Kinda hard to put into words. I haven't seen Snow White in ages, so I can't judge that one. A few other details that might constitute as spoilers: Spoiler Was I the only one that noticed the Slytherin shield in the hold of the pirate ship? It looks exactly like the classic snake that has been used for ages - I wonder if that was supposed to be a reference (one example is at 27:00 exactly, though it can be seen in several shots). There was also an old Fantasy Era skeleton shield in the hold, which I thought was fun. The crossbow that Gaston uses at the beginning could be a cool piece to add in the future. I'll throw Smee's hair/hat combo on the pile of "parts that would be cool irl" as well. Man, the minidoll-ified Iago and Sebastian were nightmare fuel. Sorry, but that was gross. Flower looked fine, though. (also, evidence Lego still cares about bigfigs the the pirate Iago was with!) For not having or mentioning Belle at all, there were several Beauty and the Beast references, including the ripped portrait of the young prince before he turned into a beast, and the wardrobe. C'mon Lego, give the people what they want! What was with the chrome gold diving suit on a chain behind Triton? Was that a reference to something, or just more treasure? Watching minidolls trying to "run" in their dresses was a little odd. Moana had legs, so she could move, and if felt like she was running, but everyone else just kind of oddly shuffled around. The Maleficent dragon was built pretty well (the "light brick" in the head to make the eyes glow is a nice touch). Shorten the body and neck a little bit, and it might work for that rumored diorama set. The colors/some of the shaping even seem to parallel each other from that leaked image (though that might just be because they're pulling from the same source material). Also, the way they "defeated" Maleficent reminded me of some of the Lego playsessions I would have growing up with my siblings - don't fight the dragon, help it! The ending was left fairly open. The wand Gaston was using was never recovered, and it ended with the Princesses just hanging out together at the castle. So, there might be some room in the future for a few sequels, which I wouldn't be opposed to. Also, if that set number is right for the rumored Pixar set, that would mean that the set it about $35 and about 400 pieces, roughly. At that PPP ratio, I'm thinking there won't be many or any minifigs, so I think it will either be a Wall-E scene, or maybe some brickbuild object.
THELEGOBATMAN Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Really looking forward to the Pixar set. Hope it's another self-contained set like the Up House. (Maybe finally they'll give us Ratatouille? Although it's probably not that set, since it would need to be bigger.)
hikouki Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Pixar lamp? Would actually love an Inside Out vignette.

Actually, with Inside Out 2 releasing in June 2024, I think it's quite likely that the Pixar set of May is related to the film (we had sets for the sequels of cars, toy story and the incredibles).
DisneyLego Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 (edited) Still holding out hope that the $100 castle ends up being beauty and the beast related to get those 2 minifigs and the Pixar set is Brave, allowing us to get Merida Edited August 20, 2023 by DisneyLego

BrickBob Studpants Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Since the non-princess Disney subtheme seems to be here to stay, I wonder what the branding will be. Just “Disney”, I suppose? Or will they extend the anniversary, like they do for the theme parks?

I think the Clamshell is one of those in that 'line' and indeed it is branded just 'Disney'. 1 hour ago, roselemontea said: Same here, especially as October 16th 2023 will be the 100th anniversary! Rooting for Belle and Beast as well. Is there a significance why Disney would choose, say Belle and Beast, as the capstone set instead of the already released castle? I really don't care if this October set is $100 or $500. Just give us a nice set, with a commensurate piece count and lots of very much sought after minifigs!
JohnTPT17 Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Keep in mind that the $100 set for October only has about 600 pieces... Which means that if it is minifig-scale, it will probably be quite overpriced. If it is a Friends-style set, it will probably be something more like 43205 with bigger parts. In some ways, I almost hope that it isn't BatB related, so that we can get a set that has a better PPP next year (since we know the theme will keep going). Though, if that's what it costs to get BatB minifigs, maybe I can find a way to swallow that pill.

Oky Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 There is a new animated special on Disney+ titled “LEGO Disney Princesses: The Castle Quest”. It’s pretty fun and finally explains that odd Ultimate Adventure Castle from last year (sort of), but more importantly it features a brick-built Maleficent dragon! Given that there is one rumored to be released soon, this could be the design we’re getting, even though it looks quite different from the preliminary picture we’ve seen before. And yes, that is a Gaston minidoll riding her who serves as the main villain of the special, so we might get him soon too. Maybe the upcoming castle is indeed from B&tB, but has minidolls including him (which would be disappointing). Then again, the special also features a minidoll Smee on a giant pirate ship which I don’t see them ever doing, so who knows, maybe these are all just designs created for the special.
