I can't believe we don't have a thread for this. Seems like the most important thread you would have on a Lego forum. I didn't find an existing thread. I'm not sure it makes sense to hunt down a specific thread on a specific sub-forum just to talk about recent set builds by theme.

Anyway. I just built Rocket Mech Armor 76243. I'm not really into Marvel, but I like mechs, and I like raccoons. The color scheme is cool. I'm sort of on board with the new arm/leg pieces. I'm not totally sold though. It's a big part but it looks okay. It's less poseable than the old mech legs with the knee ball joint, but less fiddly too. I'm curious if the parts line up if you put like 5 or six of them end to end. Do they form a hexagon or something?

I'm mainly excited for the new black modified plate with two tow balls. It's not a godsend or anything but I have ideas for it.

The new finger pieces are...kindy creepy. They look like spider legs! 😱 I prefer the Exo-force Robot Arm pieces as fingers. Maybe these new fingers will grow on me though. They are slimmer meaning you can fit three of them side by side on this piece.

Anyway, the set looks pretty good and I'm not convinced I need knee/elbow joints on something its size. I wonder if click joints for elbows/knees would be a good middle ground between poseability and non-fiddliness.

Raccoons are not foxes. D'oh. Brain misfire.

Hey, there's a topic just like this on the Brickset forum! (Soon to be gone.)

I took the 75301 X-wing from 2021 out of the closet and put it back together the other day. I think it's a brilliant set.

Most recently I built The Goat Boat, set 76208. I liked a lot of the techniques to achieve the shape while maintaining a playable structure. It will probably end up being parted out as supplies for whatever project might demand Dark Tan in abundance but I think I will keep the goats as they are as they are nice little builds that remind me of, a much older than I care to recall, MOC (cripes, that was 11 years ago).

Another very recent build for me: the new Boba Fett's Starship 75312.

I'm technically supposed to be boycotting Lego Star Wars sets because the recent movies are terrible and SW sets are absolutely the reason for the death of Space themes. But...this set is so good and so cheap. I can't believe how they nailed the shape in such a small set. I was a little put off by the windscreen choice for some reason, but objectively, the visible part of the windscreen does match the shape and size of the ship's windscreen at that scale. So it works. The stickers for the most part can be ignored. However, the sticker for the carbonite piece is unforgivable. That should have been a print or just a molded piece.

I feel the same way about the most recent Tie fighter, 75300. It was too good and too cheap to pass up.

BTW I got both 75312 and 75300 for like $40 at Target. I think they were just cheaper there, for a long time, not sure why.

The head on that goat is great! Better than a print IMO.

😱

Well there is the long running thread in Community along with some other similar ones. Apparently at one time that was the place for it, although anymore, I don't think anyone posts in there.

Recently got around to building Crocodile Locomotive 10277.  Blimey, there are no stickers in the set.  :pir-huzzah1:

Nice! Those must be prints I see, then. Cool bridge!

I forgot to mention the Rocket Mech Armor 76243 set has one printed piece. It looks pretty reusable too.

I did not even think to look there!

That subforum's description is "All the chit-chat and fun that belongs nowhere else :-)" What you just built definitely seems like it's a general Lego thing. But then again so are some of the threads there. Looks like that subforum is a bit of a ghost town though (like you said).

Just built 60393. A perfect set. Cute truck, cool minifig, cute side build, an animal mold, prints no stickers. Bam.

Also built 71780. Nice looking off-road ninja car. Can always use more chunky wheels and red parts. Not a fan of the stickers; esp. since the red doesn't match the red of the plastic.

And finally 71784. Bought it because it was cheap and had blue parts, but it's not very nice looking. The windscreen is just silly. Should have been enclosed. Also there are no thrusters to speak of so how does it fly? The rear/underside is unfinished. There are a couple nice printed tiles though! And strangely, it has only two parts (curved slopes) in dark blue, even though the same curved slopes are in the set in regular blue. Weird.

Also the "Evo" gimmick is pretty lame. Like, you don't build the full set. Then you do. That's "Evo"? Okay...🤣

Just built set 60394, the „otter battle pack“. A very good deal for 10 euros. So many useful standard bricks and slopes, four animals (two cute otters!!!!!), only prints and a cool minifig. For Lego standards, you get more than you pay for it! 👍

Only critic: I would have preferred the otters to come in dark brown instead of reddish brown.

80043: Yellow Tusk Elephant

My main issue would be the shoulder stickers, there is a flaw on having stickers on a multi-curved piece, so the sticker lifts up on the sides (also seen it in at least 3 other review videos)

Otherwise I think the design, use of colors and even the rest of the stickers look great, and the colors + gold decoration + spikes also give it a Zandalari (Warcraft) / Lizardmen (Warhammer) vibe.

Been catching up on sets that have been sitting around for a while.

Imperial Shuttle 75302 which I really enjoyed building. I was surprised with that one. I bought it on clearance for parts and figured I might as well put it together once. Now that I really liked the build process not sure if I want to take it apart.
Imperial Light Cruiser 75315 which I didn't enjoy as much. This one also had a mistake in the instructions (which I didn't seen discussed anywhere else when I looked for it) which has the left hand side bridge sticker placed on it upside down. It continues throughout the build. The image on the front of the box (which is correct based on the sticker pattern) is different to how it is shown at step 220 of the instructions (image links stolen from MKJoshA's review). Lego supplied a replacement sticker reasonably quickly since I didn't notice until after I stuck it down. Given it looked like an easy to stuff up sticker I was very particular about following the instructions which proved my downfall on this one.

Batcave - The Riddler Face Off 76183 Nothing special about this build. Hated the stickers but managed to place them well. I like the build overall though. Interestingly this one also had a "mistake" in the instructions where after bag 1 the step numbers started back at 1, and then counted up as normal through the rest of the book. Fortunately that made no difference at all to the build. Need to follow up with Lego though on a replacement for one a clear door piece which was scratched to buggery. Unfortunately it was one which had a sticker, which I haven't put on it yet, but have no idea where I ended up putting the sticker sheet with that left over sticker.

Looking forward to getting the "otter battle pack" myself.

I am not so much building sets for myself lately, I am more into building with my 4-year old daughter who already loves Lego, and the last one we built is the #42040 Fire Plane : a very good Technic set indeed, with a nice look, well-made functions, and a very good playablility, along with a great aducational value on how a plane works

I have two of those to build! Thanks for reminding me.

Reminds me of the old Chima set but with a denser build and more finished look.

I just built a LEGO Dacta robot arm from about 1986/7, with the pieces of set 1090 and some extra parts, for which @alexGS graciously provided a great number of tips, pictures, movies, on how to accomplish that.

I also used a modified MK stand (for their Flying Dutchman), to make that robot arm mobile (essentially one-dimensional, as space, the final frontier, is challenging me over and over again).

All the best,
Thorsten

Just built the Dark Trooper Attack set. It's really neat and you could probably buy a few if you wanted to create a larger scene. My only quibble is there are quite a few stickers.

31143: Birdhouse

Quite an interesting set, in particular how it got so many of the same part in different colors, maybe that explains why it's a LEGO exclusive so they could spend more budget at the set while keeping the price fair (almost 500 pieces for €30 at this size isn't bad)

Parts wise has a very varied range of pieces, used in original ways in the alternative builds.

Also easily could be converted to a minifig treehouse.

Happily working on 42131 the CAT D 11, about 1/4 of the way done so far and although I haven't come across any thing amazing, it is a truly satisfying build, so far. What is special though, is it was gifted to me by a small group of friends for my recent birthday. It was totally unexpected and quite the surprise, as I usually don't even get a card, lol. This will always be one of my favorite sets and holds a special place in my heart, being a gift, that I would never purchase for myself, I rarely spend more than $200 for any set and as much as I like the big sets, I simply can't afford them. I literally almost teared up when I got it, very special.

Sorry for being so corny but it really is a great set and I can't wait to finish it so I can tear it apart and make something else, this is my biggest set I have ever built as well, other than a few mocs which always seem to scream for more pieces.

I've just finished building and disassembling :snicker: the 10258_London Bus set. I bought it used on BrickLink as a Christmas present for my sister (no, I'm not late, it's for the next Christmas ) and I didn't expect it to be so big! I'm not into set like this - I prefer playset - but my sister loves London and has only a few LEGO (2001 Hogwarts Express and Hagrid's Hut, that I and my brother gift her last year), so I'm pretty sure she will appreciate it and finding a place where to expose it. I think It's really well done.

For me, on the other hand, I bought and built 31143_Birdhouse. This is, probably, my first LEGO creator set - or, at least, I don't remember any others - and I really appreciated it. Birds are so little and cute that I couldn't resist  I built it with my brother and really appreciate all three sets (it's a 3 in 1 set). Plus we had a nice time playing some funny stories with it.
